you are right, and i dont know how is this a good thing, but you are right, you can lterally play with the eyes closed, even without using the ``easy`` accesories you dont have to think in any way , not for moving forward, not for crafting, not for knowing what is going on, nothing you dont have ANY secret none at ALL you dont have to struggle with anything in this game, so yes its a game for the new generation, you are absolutly right, and you DO have to have an open mind to not breake on full rage to this new generation that cant stand strugle a real pitty.

The whole point is that you don't HAVE to use the rings. There are people that physically cannot play the game, through no fault of their own, if the option wasn't there. They DO have rewards for those who are skillful enough to not get hit in key fights and both players are able to enjoy the story of this game. There's definitely issues, like you mentioned they need to work on making crafting feel more rewarding and they could've paced the side quests better but none of that takes away from the game itself as a storytelling device. There's still things to find like the Eikonic trials, the Hunts, unique accessories, and waypoints you can find before being able to access a settlement. There's nothing that's especially obtuse like some other games but there's still things to find.

Excellent, humble, articulate review. It took me 80 hours to beat FF16 because I took my time to take in all the scenery in a new area and did all the quests/ hunts. This is easily my favorite FF since FF9 hands down. Some of the side quests aren't as exciting but they're easy to complete and never overstay their welcome, and a lot of the later side quests are quite moving, especially Gav's side quest. Most of the main cast and NPCs get their own "ending side quest" which is awesome. Honestly the only thing that bothered me in FF16 was constantly finding "10 gil" on the ground when exploring, even in late game it's kind of silly. All in all Square knocked it out of the park with this one

I was holding next to none hopes for it, the departure from classic rpg is quite large, however, by the end of it i was so amazed by the characters, the music, the gameplay, and the nods to the series i was left awestruck. I just finished this game today, and I am truly just impressed and satiated by this Final Fantasy. This game I will hold up there with my top 3 FF of all time. @@SquallSZ Have you really played FF in general? As a fan of FF since the late 80s and early 90s, I have found that FF is a game that you should not compare with another FF. Though some elements would be similar, they are typically far apart removed from one another. One thing that usually is in each though is the story and character progression and great music, which XVI does great at also .

FF7R really changed up the way the series did NPC interactions, focusing on ambient dialogue that prioritized worldbuilding and contextual game states like sidequest completion. The result was the most lived in world I’ve experienced in a long time. Midgar had such a sense of place because of it. I’m so glad that they kept refining that style for this game.

I love how the theme of ffxvi was almost slapping the criticisms in the face. “That’s not gonna be an ff game” was a big criticism Knowing this they took to metaphor and destroyed the crystals and source of magic in the game. That one was such a lovely theme to me, almost likening FF’s fate to Clive’s and watching as both Clive and the game itself defy fate and become something bigger and better than anticipated.

I absolutely love 16. It is not the old final fantasy but that’s fine. We have all the old ones and games like Octopath traveler or Bravely default still provide new experiences in that style. I was blown away by the message of ff16 and the while perhaps the gameplay itself at times left me wanting a little bit more (or maybe even just a little more elden ring like difficulty), the lack of freedom, I think, is perhaps exactly the point. Overall I am so happy ff16 broke the old shackles and it opens them up for more possibilities in the future.

Played every Final Fantasy game except 2. I love different styles of games, but it HAS to have story, lore, characters, iconic moments, grip, make me think about it when I’m not playing it. I’ve done that with everyone of them, some in different ways. But I loved this. Omg this one was so deep, so dark, so grown up. I loved it so much. Made me laugh, cry, angry, sad. I had a rollercoaster of emotions during this game. Also been running XII ZA on the switch, the gambit system is brilliant. Can make some crazy set ups lol. FFXVI my GOTY 100%

My primary complaint, now that I've finished it, is that it suffers from some very strange pacing issues, and some jarring ludo-narrative dissonance. Some things are massively rushed, while there are huge lulls of nothing but side-questing (If you avoid the side-quests, it feels rushed, period). This wouldn't be a problem if not for the fact that, while narratively interesting and good for building supporting characters, the actual gameplay of the majority of side-quests is embaressingly bad. It also suffers from a simillar problem currently plaguing fantasy TV and films- That is, there's no sense of scale to the world. It's never really conveyed that traveling the huge distances between the various points takes any time at all. It's like some form of narrative fast-travel, and it makes the world feel far more gamey than believable. What I find strangest about this, is that huge swathes of the downtime that would have you performing sidequests could've been replaced with sections that actually demonstrate that we're traveling meaningful distances. (After all, I can appreciate the pace slowing, if it's meaningful) On top of that, there are some system choices that further make the world feel a little hollow. For instance, there are multiple points during the story where we're far from home base (and on one or two occasion, it's not even known if we'll survive to make it back). When we leave, it's given the narrative weight it should have, which is great. But then I can just warp back to the home base, at almost any time... I appreciate that this is a gameplay concession to allow you access to things like the merchant, but it's completely immersion breaking- When I have these meaningful farewells, leaving on what may well be a suicide mission, across a huge span of distance, only to pop back a few minutes later 'cause I fancy stocking up on items. Related to the former point- I appreciate that there's some mild attempt to tie the fast-travel to the world, with the obelisks, but then it falls apart late in the game, when I'm supposedly relying entirely on my companions keeping a ship ready to pick me up if I'm successful in my mission. Warping is part of the world... It's a little nonsensical that I could not just use an obelisk to return. I understand that, sometimes, concessions have to be made for gameplay- But I feel these aspects are ones that *could* be solved, whilst either not harming the gameplay, or only mildly so. An tertiary complaint, largely unrelated to the narrative, or core gameplay- Is simply a lack of certain staples. Most notably, a truly challenging Super Boss (or multiple thereof). It's possible to get extremely overpowered, but there's no real incentive to actually do so. That all said, I like the game a lot. I'm just mildly dissappointed that it's only great, when it could've been a masterpiece. Even so, as a first mainline, non-MMO, game from Yoshi-P's team, it's a wonderful starting point. I'm very much looking forward to what they may create in the future.

As someone who has a played a few final fantasies but never majorly got into it I loved it. A pleasent surprise to find an FF channel praising it since it seems like a lot of older fans hate it for not being enough of an RPG with the medieval setting not helping those who've gotten used to the science fantasy settings that 7 solidified. Good to see that there are longstonding fans who've embraced this game. It's different and stripped down but it's still unmistakeably Final Fantasy. I'd love to see them take this gameplay approach and apply it to a more typical science fantasy setting.

The problem with this game, as with XIII, isn't a problem with the game itself but the wider community. Polarisation is always loudest. Therefore you'll hear more from people who absolutely love the game or refuse to even touch it based on principle (or in the case of XIII just utterly despise it.) The problem is, the middle-grounders often go unnoticed as they kick up the least stink either way. I am one of these middle-grounders when it comes to XVI. I don't think it's as good as many make it out to be, yet feel the boycotters are doing themselves a disservice and missing out on some truly epic moments. I love the game at certain parts, have my heart broken at others and am mostly indifferent remaining merely satisfied at best through the majority. Now, as most reviews of the game tend to focus on the best of the game, I am instead gonna focus on what it gets wrong as it can be assumed everything else hits the mark. It's worth keeping in mind that this is based on what I personally favour, which will not reflect everybody's taste or experience. Firstly, the combat. It's amazing for what it is, having seen them finally perfecting the formula. This is also where the problem lies for me though. This is an action combat game through and through with absolutely zero middle ground. I personally, have never taken to action combat quite so well as I have strategic, command based combat. This was one of the draws of the franchise for me. The Final Fantasy franchise was one where I felt I was among those gameplay elites. Being able to navigate menus and select commands at an expert pace that would leave less experienced friends amazed at how fast I would seem to pull these tasks off and would often struggle to keep up with precisely what I did even though it was not at the pace of action based combat. Many other (most?) genres focus on more action based combat. It must be noted that action combat is not a modern trope and has been around since the early days of video games. Final Fantasy established itself as being an alternative to action based combat. Then, seemingly to appease certain audiences they chose to abandon this choice altogether in favour of deep, action based combat which inserts a skill wall for those like me who are more skilled with the alternative method of combat. It can be said that they've attempted to account for this with the Timely accessories but this is simply not the case. You've got ones that would be essential for those without hyper reflexes and incredible dexterity, and those which trivialise combat to the point of making it boring (spam single button accessory or auto-dodge accessory.) These do not do anything to increase the enjoyment for these people. It should be noted though that I don't personally hate, or even dislike action based combat, it's just not "me" and never been something I've been particularly good at and hours upon hours of practice feels like tedium to me. Secondly, the wider narrative. While the primary story itself is great, the wider narrative takes too much influence from the likes of Game of Thrones and as such results in a complex, overwhelming twist and tangle of politics and numerous social groups that can be near impossible to keep track of without the extra lore NPCs and some forced reading material. I actually believe it's the opposite to XIII. While XIII had a clear cut story and explained enough about the game's general lore and terms to allow you to appreciate it without delving deeper, with the Datalog providing optional extras that by no means make for required reading to appreciate the game's overall narrative, XVI, by contrast, is so convoluted that you may NEED to rely on at least one of these lore NPCs to fully grasp what is going on. This leads me to my final criticism. The use of narrative time skips. The first of which, thirteen years in length, is done masterfully, while the second at only five years in length completely drops the ball. Trying to avoid spoilers, the game places you at a story precipice which everything up to this point has built up to and the story has masterfully got you extremely invested in. Then, all of a sudden, your protagonists are wandering a completely foreign area with absolutely ZERO explanation of how they got there or what they're doing and not even informing you that a whole five years have passed until later. It is actually at this point where the crux of the game takes place, with most of the rest essentially serving as extended prologue. I still, to this very moment have no idea how the characters got out of their predicament at that time with the game deciding it was a detail of no importance and it honestly almost lost me and completely broke my immersion and investment. Luckily, the game made up for it enough in other ways to allow me to look past it. Overall, I would rate the game as the best since XIII, but nowhere near the quality of the best in the franchise. It's also worth bearing in mind that I love XIII, so it means something me saying that. Still, it also means I rate X, XII and XIII all higher. If you actually read through all of this mess then you have my respect. It's only after finishing this stream of consciousness that I realise just how much I wrote here. Still, such is my passion for the franchise.

My favorite part: The presentation. Without a doubt. Even while the story was nothing groundbreaking (Think Game of Thrones + Avengers Infinity War), the characters and voice acting were so good I still found myself caring - quite a lot. I couldn't put the game down as I simply needed to know what happened next. The graphics are also the best ever created on ANY platform. Just ... so well done. The tradition I miss the most: I enjoyed the action style. I'm not a traditionalist so I was ok with that. But it came with a sacrifice in variety of gameplay. Yes each Eikon has 4 or 5 abilities each that can be mixed and matched... But when all is said and done, you still only have access to about 9 abilities at any given moment. That is a far cry from games like FF6 which had 4 characters in your party at any given point. All of whom had a their own portfolio of moves in addition to buffet of magic provided by Espers. This, to me, made the mechanics feel quite repetitive after a while - much like a Diablo game would. But all in all, I very much enjoyed FFXVI. I would put it in the top third of F F titles at the very least. But (for me) not quite cracking the legendary ranks of say 6,7, or 14.

I like the modern settings, but they do take great dismissal to enjoy. Here’s an example: you have airships, magic, huge metropolis settings and crazy genetic engineering, yet your characters swing swords and axes to take down the bad guys?? It really doesn’t make sense. I like both settings. In games, I will always prefer swords to guns. Swords make more sense in a medieval setting, but I am willing to suspend logic to enjoy them in sci-fi. That’s just the beauty of the FF series: there’s definitely a game that suites everyone somewhere in the myriad of titles. You just have to find your game.

Not often that I disagree with this channel. Maybe my opinion will be changed as I continue my playthrough, but after 8 hours my experience is "decent action game" but "poor Final Fantasy". Combat is amazing, graphics are fantastic, story is good but feels a bit generic and way too much Game of Thrones... but Eikon battles are simple quick time events, weapons are so basic and boring and crafting is so simplistic, no elemental weakness that I've seen, so zero strategy in fights beyond manage cooldown timers, and so so so many cutscenes. My wife asked me if I'm playing a game or watching a movie... And as much as I love Clive as a main character, this game feels like he is the only main character. It feels like parties have been a staple of FF games, and they are all important and "main", but I just haven't gotten that feeling here yet.
