I did like Odin eventually giving context on why Benedikta became a slave to him. She was so filled with hate and yearned so much to be truly loved that his speech about a new world where the wicked of this one are punished and none allowed again would appeal to her. Even if it put her at odds with Cid. She was broken beyond repair like Clive said. She just wanted the world to burn and take everyone with her. That spark Cid tried save was extinguished a long time ago. Yet even before her death a sliver of it was there. She's that far gone. It's there, but it can never be reached again. That girl is gone.

Her music theme conveys both her rage and her sadness so well. Soken did an amazing job here. I can’t help but shed some tears when listening to Benedikta’s theme now. She became a bad person yeah, cause she had been broken by a wretched world. Not inherently bad.

@@desion yes there is. what you said is completely false. as you said every person's circumstances are different and they have a direct influence on how they become in the future but you cant say that a bad person remains a bad person or he is just born bad lol. people can change. there are murderers and criminals who turn a new leaf and become righteous individuals but they need the right guidance. benedikta was a good person during her time with cid and she truly loved him and her intentions were noble at the time but got corrupted when she was influenced by the king mostly under ultima's influence.

It's the moment where Cid started walking faster that got me.

Knowing that Clive could have their power without needing to kill them made me wish that she stuck around a bit longer just gradually gaining more anger and frustration as time went on

FF keeps getting more and more beautiful. Most overpowered fight scenes these days just come as flashy to me, but this one I can actually feel the weight of power and destruction. The effect are supernatural but still grounded, much better than giant light cones or explosive spheres/rings. A great work of arts!

Benedikta's performance is one of the best voice acting I've seen.

Those who get killed off this early is just a sign that they were never gonna change for the better. Its just like Clive said to Kupka after, she was beyond saving, and someone so set in such flawed views, will get no sympathy from me.

Both Clive and Benedikta turned into giant regenerating monsters. Both were struck with a massive attack that ended their monster rampage... yet she died and he did not. What are the rules of this Universe? When I got to this point, I didn't even know she was dead. I just assumed she was unconscious like EMO John Snow.

I mean, Clive lost himself to Ifrit by Ifrit taking him over forcibly, Benedikta wanted to die and take the world with her due to a mental breakdown - she was pretty much dead the moment she transformed as it was not a rampage due to lack of control, it was a controlled act of fully giving herself over to the Eikon. You could say that Clive was kidnapped by Eikon while Benedicta commited suicide by Eikon.

What I don’t understand is how she turned into Garuda after losing her powers? Also for some reason I didn’t think she died here, that’s why I came to this video. Edit: and how did Cid not kill Clive when he took down Ifrit?

Clive didn’t take all of her power. He took a enough of it, comparable to the fragment he got when Joshua blessed him, that in her exhausted state, left her unable to call upon Garuda temporarily. Least until she lost it

Do you kill a bird by taking just one feather? What stopped her from transforming and using magic was not the loss of it, it was mixture of shock due to loss, in a fight unstable mental state and the fact that she was temporarily weakened by both battle fatigue and taking away some of her power.

How about you grow some pair and understand than in a mature and dark setting, even the most interesting characters can die a dog's death of it comes down to it. Just because they started getting interesting doesn't mean they'll make it through. Benedikta was intentionally killed off the moment we started feeling sympathetic to teach how grim and unforgiving the world of valisthea is.

I kinda love the irony - the woman that manipulated other peoples psyches and controlled men via sex died during a rape attempt when her own psyche broke and she got irreversibly possessed by Garuda.

I'm so glad she is dead. I couldn't bring myself to buy the game, but I played the demo and....I am so happy watching this.

I had my concerns going in about how Benedikta would be portrayed, and I was hoping I’d be proven wrong. But this is just… not doing it for me. What we knew of her story was devastating, but I wish it had been given the respect it deserved. Not a fan of how her trauma and death were given little purpose other than to further the arcs of the other male characters. I’m accustomed to seeing women sexualized in video games, and that’s one thing. But Benedikta was clearly abused, manipulated, and victimized throughout her young life, and the game treated her like little more than a sex object for the audience to ogle at and drool over. Disappointed in that.

What? I don’t think you played the game if that’s what you saw. Sure her story was a tragedy but what people don’t understand is having bad things happen to you doesn’t allow you to do shitty things to others. She did a lot of crappy things to people and to be honest I doubt she wanted redemption. Her death is fitting and honestly moved the story forward for a lot of characters in a way. Also she isn’t used a sex object more like she just uses her sex appeal to get her way. Think seductress. There’s nothing wrong with that.

I’ve played the game well past her section and that’s exactly what I saw. I have no problem with her being an antagonist or getting comeuppance for doing terrible things. But her story absolutely plays like "physically powerful but emotionally unstable female character gets punished because she just didn’t let herself be saved by the guy who loved her all along" in my opinion. While some guys are about to kidnap and presumably rape her, she even asks herself if this is her punishment for not listening to Cid, which really shouldn’t be the point. I could see why she might feel that way in the moment, but it just goes to show how desperate in seeking safety and validation she is, and the game cuts short her opportunity to realize that. Like I said, Benedikta’s story is a tragedy, and the fact that she dies in and of itself isn’t an issue. But I don’t care for the fact that she’s one of the few major female characters in the game and her story is cut short to create motivation for other male characters. Meanwhile, she’s heavily sexualized onscreen and shown naked in multiple visions after her death by the men she seduces, which feels to me like a disrespectful way to manage a character who’s been abused and sexually assaulted, especially if you’re not going to do anything else with the character other than show them use and be used by others and then get violently killed. I have no issue with depicting tragedy or showing how cruel the world of Valisthea can be, but the portrayal of Benedikta just wasn’t to my taste. Which is too bad for me because I’ve largely been happy with most of the female characters of Final Fantasy over the years. I’m sure not everyone will agree with me, but that’s what I took away from it.

I felt Benedikta filled her roll just fine. Shes someone who felt like she was better because of her power and wanted to be up there and would use any tool to do so. The one thing that held her back was the love she still had for cid which she finally threw away because he didn't want to serve the king. She tossed away the man who would take her in no matter what and once she lost her powers she finally snapped as she felt like she had nothing and hated the world for it. As a intro boss villain with a dash a tragic past she aint bad. She also was a powerful character being able to dish out damage.

Her trauma wasn't handled with the most tact. It would have been better if she was in the game longer if that type of abuse was going to be explored. Her thinking about her true love as she lost hope was rather fitting. Honestly all the Dominants seem to live less than desirable lives.
