    So, this video represent one of the craziest efforts I've ever seen in the games industry. Final Fantasy 14 is indeed their MMO (so was 11), but when it first launched, it was an incredible mess of bad game design, copy and pasted landscapes, terrible user interface, etc. It was universally panned and lost players at a rapid pace. Square Enix halted paid subscriptions and worked on tons of quality of life changes, but in secret, they also hatched a plan to completely remake the game and as time went on, the red moon you can see in the cinematic appeared in the game and drew closer and closer. When the servers were finally shut down on the game, this cinematic played at the end, showing the people's struggle to avert the destruction of the world, but in the end, Bahamut destroyed everything. Later on, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn was released and it's now one of the most successful MMOs on the market.

    This is still one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in the gaming industry. They had a full, 18-month-long story arc about the moon falling from the sky and the players trying to stop it. Inevitably, they failed, and the world was destroyed. It was the most spectacular send-off I've ever seen for any MMO. And then they rebooted it as "A Realm Reborn" and definitely got it right the second time. Most game studios don't get the chance for a do-over when their game flops, so the fact that they actually pulled it off never ceases to amaze me.

    As someone who played the original version before it shut down, is really interesting seeing those who hadn't played its reaction, as for myself (and the others playing) we had seen the moon getting closer and closer and been trying our best to prevent it - though of course we knew it was impossible. We spent the last hours essentially on the battlefield you see, fighting monsters and NPCs being spawned by game masters, before the servers went offline, and we saw this cinematic - though it didn't have the bit after the blinding light where Louisoux saves things until the relaunch and progress in the raid. I'll never forget it, and am still playing Final Fantasy XIV today! Thanks for the reaction, understated, but can see you are absorbing it all.

    Stumbled onto this video 2 years later...... The Final Cinematic of 1.0 still gives me chills and tears whenever i see it ;-; (everything that was up to the 7:09 mark.) Everything after the 7:09 mark (if you havnt already found out or been told...) was actually revealed as a cutscene in a Raid at the end of 2.0 (or A Realm Reborn as its officially known as). Also... I like it, when people react to the FF XIV trailers without playing or at least knowing the game ^^ Thats the purest form of reactions that can exist :D Like the others in the comment section I would recommend you the other trailers from FF XIV, too. But not single ones like the others. There exist 4 trailers until now but the fourth one isn't fully completed yet. It gets finished on the FF XIV Fan Festival in Japan on March the 23rd. There they show the final from for the trailer "Shadowbringers". But like I mentioned here the correct order for the trailers: 1. A Realm Reborn (much of this is the same like this video, BUT they're different after the heroes get teleported) 2. Heavensward 3. Stormblood 4. Shadowbringers (like I mentioned: not fully finished yet, because this Add On is realeased on June, 2nd of this year) This trailer "Flames of Truth" showed the players what happened after they get teleported. This video already was shown after Square Enix stopped the game after it's first release because there were much things that wasn't great (as much as I know). The big orb was the prison of the dragon (called Bahamut) came slowly down ingame visible for all players until they shut down the servers and the players got this video until they get teleported away. "A Realm Reborn" take this and goes 5 years into the future, where the heroes reappear and start a new adventure. ^^ Ok, but enough talking XD I hope you get interested and watch the others, too. ^^ That's why I wrote the correct order of the trailers and not one of them out of context like the others in the comment section ;D

    I'm a big FF fan but never played XIV because I'm also a big "don't like subscription services" person. But when I saw this trailer it didn't matter that I'd never played the game and had no clue who anyone in the cutscenes were--this is the absolute BEST Final Fantasy cutscene they have ever made! And every time I've subsequently watched it I've been just as amazed as the first time. It's so raw and powerful, yet so beautiful. So since then I've researched the heck out of and here's the rundown: FFXIV had an awful launch and was pretty universally panned for being a terrible game. The devs decided "this isn't working, we're going to shut down the servers and start over so we can make a game that players actually enjoy." So they announced the date the servers would end, and in the weeks leading up to it the players watched a red moon overhead slowly get closer and closer, at it's closest to the planet they could make out a haunting voice singing a tune... the players, meanwhile, were being bombarded with increasingly ridiculous monster attacks. They couldn't hold back the onslaught, and near the end of the countdown a great number of the players gathered together to just stare at approaching moon. Then, when the time finally came and the game was shut down Square released this video (up to 7:08, anyway. The rest didn't come until much later). They hadn't just "shut down the game" they freaking BURNED it. They annihilated the world to ashes and nothing was left, and then they actually worked this world-ending event into the story of the relaunched world going forward. It's incredible! I mean, I've still never played the game but I *love* this.

    Personally, I recommend playing it. I'm a long time fan of FF, and XIV has taken the cake as my favorite entry in the series. But if you're against subscriptions, there's not much that can be done about that. There is a free trial where you can play the game for as long as you want, but you're capped at lv35, I believe, and have some restrictions. Unfortunately, the lead up to the first expansion and the expansion itself is the best part of the story, and lv35 isn't enough to get you there. But I consider this game worth every penny that I've spent on it.

    7:07 with the fade to white was where the original version of this video ended, when the original game shut down. It would be almost a year before players new and old could enter Final Fantasy 14 again to see what became of the world after the dragon's rampage (or if there would even be a world to go back to), and around a couple years after that before the story would progress to reveal the "flames of truth" cinematic that you see now.

  • @BOverlord
    @BOverlord5 жыл бұрын

    Flames of Truth is the cinematic from the Binding Coil of Bahamut raid that explains what happens after the adventurers get teleported by Louisaix (the old guy). After Nael van Darnus (his sister actually but the translation got screwed up during localization) dropped Dalamud (the red moon) on Eorzea, Bahamut broke out and started razing the land. Nael had been tempered (enslaved) by Bahamut in order to free him. Louisaix calls on the power of the 12 gods of Eorzea and the peoples (players) prayers to reseal Bahamut but that fails, so using the last of his strength and the staff of Tupsimati he teleports them to the future. After that he uses the prayers of Eorzea/the Twelve to literally become a god, the Phoenix, to burn through Bahamuts Teraflare and his heart, but even that isn't enough to permanently kill him, so years later the Warrior of Light enters the Binding Coils to finally end Bahamut. ...and gets stuck at Turn 9 because screw Nael Deus Darnus (ok I beat her but it took a long time back in Heavensward because the fight required perfect coordination)

  • @RyushiroK
    @RyushiroK5 жыл бұрын

    General, post-watch context for you: - The big moon/planet at the beginning, where the dragon (Bahamut) came out of, was an ancient prison for him, created centuries ago by a very technologically advanced race (that is now extinct). - The big war going on in the beginning is the main focus of the majority of the game's story. Your faction (big axe dude, catgirl archer, etc.) are trying to maintain balance and freedom for all. The other guys (with the mechs and such) are trying to rule the world. You fight with them throughout the game. - I don't recall exactly, but I think the bad guys were actively trying to release the dragon from its prison and control it to dominate the war. As we saw, that didn't go well. - When the dragon was freed, the old guy and all the people you saw praying at different locations, who are part of the same group, are essentially praying to the Gods of this world (12 in total, each have their own symbol) for the ritual to seal it again. You could tell how massive of a ritual it was with the sheer size of the "arcane circle" relative to Bahamut's size. - Clearly, the ritual failed, and you may notice that the old man's staff broke from the feedback. retrying the ritual is no longer an option, so he invoked one of the gods to help teleport your party "somewhere" (notice the symbol that appears for a second when he casts his spell is a hourglass symbol. I wonder what that could mean ;) ) - His weak smile after he teleports you away, as the blast approaches, always makes me truly weep. - Initially, the video ended there. The part afterwards, you learn later on in the game. - When you see him surrounded by blue, he was essentially communing with the "Chief Goddess" of the world (Hydraelyn, usually portrayed as a massive crystal), who give him some of her power to try and fight back. (I might be mistaken about this part, it's been a while) - After he was pushed back down by the big fireball, and he pushes back intensely, you can already notice the white cracks that start to appear on his face. He's literally pushing his body to its limits. - After he succeeds in piercing Bahamut, his body is finished, and he breaks down into Aether (the mana/energy of the world) - Thanks to that whole fight, and the big explosion that occurs after, that entire area of the planet is literally a wasteland.

    just adding two things to this. - The majority of the Garleans (the mech-faction) didn't know about Bahamut being inside the red orb/moon. They blame our faction for Bahamut destroying everything. (there was only a small sub-faction inside the Garlean army that knew about the dragon and didn't care about the destruction he'll bring once released) - if i remember it correctly he did not speak to Hydaelyn to gain power but used the already gathered aether (the symbols around him) to turn himself into a primal/god with the intention of destroying Bahamut and killing himself once the deed was done. (he represents/turns into Phoenix in the Bahamut-raid)

The expansion cinematics you can generally watch in any order, but from release they're: Heavensward (kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZqSct6WDnNLTgNI.html), Stormblood (kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKhlypOGmdHSfKw.html) & Shadowbringers (kzread.info/dash/bejne/mmWDt7CBodOZcqg.html). I think you'll enjoy all of these! ♥ ps: I also endorse the comments suggestion you watch Diablo 3 trailers! :D

    I honestly wonder why people new to FFXIV react to "Flames of Truth" instead of videos of the last days of FFXIV 1.0, like for example here kzread.info/dash/bejne/i5t5yZqkiNDPltI.htmlm0s (cut to the last 50 seconds before servers go down). The addition of context to the cinematic would have been so much better.

    Please, watch ''FF XIV A realm reborn: story the waning of the sixth sun''. It's a special cinematic telling you the story before this trailler happened, narrated by the old man who saved everyone, the legend of Eorzea himself! Flames of Truth is a very emotional video, specially for someone who has 13,000+ hours into this game. The first part was basically how the 1.x version of the game was shutdown, bringing the whole red moon and revealing Bahamut inside it. It was also the intro of the new 2.x version called A Realm Reborn. At the end, the old man teleported everyone, yourself included, to a safer place a bit into the future and died while doing that. But then, 2 or 3 years later we got the last 2.x update before the first 3.x expansion, with the final stage of the Coils of Bahamut and at the end of it, the next cinematic played and it showed how he actually destroyed bahamut and the reason why his pieces were all scatered around the world during the coil raids. ( This second part starts when he sees himself in that crystal like dimension). Imagine playing this for years, and then sudenly they give you a part 2 of that amazing cinematic, explaining how the giant dragon was destroyed? Such a master piece. Also, Flames of Truth is the name of the second part, the first part was called And of an Era.

    I agree with some of the people that relied. You need to check out the other trailers for FFXIV; Heavensward, Stormblood, and (when it comes out after next weekend) the full trailer for Shadowbringers.

    This cinematic is more emotional when you know the reason and backstory. FF14 original was a failure so Square wanted to reboot it, and instead of just releasing a sequel they annihilated their own world in this event you see in the cinematic so they could start fresh from the ashes with FF14: A Realm Reborn

    also POOR BAHAMUT. ; ; he is my second fav ff summon after shiva. (poor shiva too ; ;) SPOILERS And this bahamut lore is sad. he was one 1 of 7 children of midgarsomr, who came to our star while fleeing omega. Mirdgarsomr came out hydalin, and brought with him 7 eggs. each of the kids hatched and grew going to different location. most stayed in the coerthen area churning mists. 2 went to mericidia, and 2 are unknown. Anyway, bahamut and his consort ( and brood sister) tiamut went to meridicia and breeded. At some point to allag hands bahamut is killed. Tiamat, with grief and rage and with help of the asciens, summons bahamut. allag (again with help of the asciens) launch omega after him, and capture him. putting him in the red moon known as a dalamud, shooting it up into space and use bahamut as a battery to power their civilization, till it fell after the cloned king xande (who made a pact with the world of darkness) caused a power surge trying to make a portal for the world of darkness to come through as a bargain for immortality and power. the surge was so great a massive earth quake happen causing the central power (the crystal tower) to get sunk below the earth. 1000+years the primal bahamut was locked in a stasis, being kept summon from locked up dragonkin forever in a state of distress looking for freedom. And with bindings keeping it feed just enough to maintain form. even after defeat, he is never fully killed off :(

    You have reacted to RWBY and seem to enjoy it, and love Final Fantasy.....do you know anything about the games Ninja Gaiden and Dead of Alive? Well I would highly recommend watching Dead Fantasy (1-6 about 30 ish mins total and this is a link to a slightly remastered version kzread.info/dash/bejne/lqKK0LSbpK-aicY.html) It's by the guy who created RWBY and it's what he was working on by himself up until his death...it was never finished but what is out there is some of the most intense choreography I've ever seen, and mashes up Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dead or Alive/Ninja Gaiden series together in an absolutely thrilling brawl with glimpses at it's own interesting story line. I really think you would have your mind blown like everyone else who's seen it and the fact that it was all done by a high school drop out who taught himself animation is just a testament to Monty Oum's genius. Cheers!

    The original FF14 was a broken mess. So Square added an in game apocalypse, took the servers offline for a couple years, and relaunched the game as a Realm Reborn

    The game itself became a phoenix reborn from the ashes of it's own failure! I love how Square didn't give up on the game and allowed Yoshi P and his team to work their magic. And now it's one of the best MMO's on the entire market, what a turnaround!

    @@Sylrissa What strikes me as miraculous is that Yoshi-P had never previously worked on an MMO, had pretty much replaced the entire initial lead team for FFXIV and was given the colossal task of turning around one of the worst mainstream MMO games ever released. Not only did he turn it around, he succeeding in placing the game into the top 5 and has almost hit the top position (WoW still holds that mantle from sheer player numbers alone at this point, but that is dropping rapidly as they are turning to other MMO games, a lot of them ending up in FFXIV)

    so quick backstory for you. FF14 1.0 was a bomb. it was terrible so they had to remake it basically. and this the video of them basically destroying original FF14 and remaking it. the war going on is the Garlian Empoire releasing Bahamut from the moon. and we are trying to stop it and fail obviously. resetting the world for FF14 Realm Reborn.
