I've come across someone who wanted and were going to go to Fanfest but ultimately couldn't because they got a bad enough ear infection that they were advised against going on a plane. THAT is someone I feel sympathy for, not some dingleberry who showed obvious signs of being sick the day of Fanfest after travelling for a while without testing, went to the first day regardless and decided to make a 10 page comic trying to garner sympathy points after they left WAY later than they should've.

So if I understand it correctly, the events are... - Immediately goes from a 2-week trip elsewhere to Fanfest - Just put on a mask and popped a few Dayquil after some chills and just went "it'll be fine" - Stood in line from 7 AM to 10 AM when the doors opened, probably walked all around the venue for a bit, which of course means coming into contact with hundreds and hundreds of people - Attended the whole keynote, which also makes it so he came into contact with hundreds and hundreds of people - Still WENT OUT TO EAT in public, and only then decided to actually attempt to take it more seriously - Blamed a hotel THAT WAS ALREADY AT MAX CAPACITY for being unable to accommodate HIM better [What did he expect them to do? Kick out another Fanfest attendee booked there for him/his friends?] - Still spent the night at said hotel since he left the next day, on a packed plane, and giving their friend who they already tried to sneak in their band to get in - Said Fanfest was mid as a result of their experience - Crossposted this comic, which is pretty much "By the way I was one of the Patient Zeros for Fanfest's Covid wave", onto Reddit and responding to one of the Fanfest people who got covid with basicaly "No hard feelings, right? :)" - Actual Moral of the comic/story: "Feel bad for ME and MY bad luck and wasted time and money! If you did get Covid at Fanfest though, no hard feelings right?" This entire thing just screams "Main Character Syndrome." Sure given how large of an event FanFest is, I did expect some kind of Covid wave from it. I just didn't expect one of the Patient Zeros to make a 10 page comic about it in and go "Now I KNOW this comic makes me look bad, but it was just bad luck! We all got unlucky! Laugh at my misfortune!...Please laugh."

So if I understand this correctly.... - Traveled 2 weeks with his friends and managed not to get them sick even when they shared a hotel room, otherwise they would have went home with him - Stood in line in 111F weather, walked around the venue a bit to come into contact with people SO CONCERNED about getting sick at a convention that they all were wearing their masks (sarcasm), and somehow managed to not get his friends sick even though he was hanging out with them, but managed to get hundreds and hundreds of people sick that the outbreak was plastered all over the news like it was PAX 2009. - Should have done what EVERYONE was doing which was taking a Covid test at even the smallest smallest sign of a symptom.... "Oh man I got Diarrhea, it must be covid and not the food I ate, better take a test". "Oh man my throat is dry and scratchy, i better take a covid test, no way it can be the dry weather i'm not used to". "Oh man my body feels weak and sluggish, I better take a covid test, it cant be because i'm dehydrated from the heat", "Oh no I got chills, it must be covid and not the air conditioner". Im sure everyone else was taking a Covid test because of 1 symptom. I'm sure everyone that attended too took a test right after they got off the plane, just in case they got it from the flight". - Blamed the Hotel, yeah that one is unfair and unecessary. Dont blame him though, I got Covid and was bitter as fuck, especially at my doctor who wouldn't write me a prescription for antibiotics unless I made a scheduled appointment to come into her office in two weeks. Apparently on her reviews she didn't want to write an xray order for an elderly woman who broke her leg, also had to wait two weeks. - Not much you can do about the hotel and plane, the other option is to go to the hospital where they will have to admit you for a few days and run the risk of being charged with a $100,000 bill if your insurance company doesn't pay out. - Heard Fanfest had a lot of problems regarding merch, food, and water supply. - Made a comic and actually had the balls to admit it. Given he was constantly wearing a mask and none of his friends got sick, he probably was sick but had enough awareness to not get anyone else sick. Plus its No-vax No-mask Vegas I'm sure there were people who walked around sick and not give af about anyone else, but attack the furry because they are weird and different like those characters at Disneyland. - Other moral of the story, thinking you're going to go to a convention and not get sick is like thinking you are gonna go to the Ukraine for vacation and not get shot. - EVERYONE has Main Character Syndrome, especially by being on the internet to make themselves important. That's why you and I are making these long dumb posts 😂. The hilarious thing is that he could have just not made this comic and no one would have known. Like, inevitably people were going to end up getting COVID there and at pretty much any convention. But, as annoyed as people might be about that, there isn't really anyone for them to vent their frustration towards because no one would really know who actually spread it. So it would have been an unfortunate thing, but kind of just something that doesn't blow up in anyone's face. Him throwing this up there basically saying "Yeah, if you got COVID then there was a good chance that I caused it" just gave them a perfect target. I'm baffled by the fact that he thought this was a good idea as opposed to just not saying anything. Especially with putting it on a platform as public as Twitter. I'm also really confused by him blaming the hotel, as if they did anything wrong. There was no way for them to know he had COVID and they were obviously going to be a maximum capacity. Even if they weren't at maximum capacity, there's no way in hell they would have moved his friends out of that suite into another one. They were already exposed to him and that would have just meant risking spreading it through more of the hotel. There's just such an incredible amount of stupidity with his entire post. It's genuinely almost impressive.

@@marcuscorvin9998 Perhaps I have missed that, but I did n't see it anywhere that they did that 2 week trip with their friends, the comic even says that they met right before fanfest for the firwt time. And it's also not mentionned if the friends ended up getting sick in the end just because they didn't get any symptoms during their time together. I do agree with some points and I'm sure they weren't the only sick person attending the fanfest. Also antibiotics don't work against viral infections, which covid is. Also also the comparison with the Ukraine isn't very accurate either since only the eastern part of the country is a warzone, not to mention poor taste.

@@TheAlleriaH Yeah I didn't see that either, so i'm assuming that it was there to push a narrative, i just went with it to show it's irrelevance. And you're right, we dont know what happened between him and his friends or even if he gave anyone Covid at all. But I do know that people can still have Covid and not have any symptoms like my family who gave it to me for Christmas and ripped apart my lungs for 6 months. I just checked, yeah they gave me a Benzonatate for the cough and Naproxen for the pain (Well they gave it to a family member of mine to give to me even though I was the patient, so yeah HIPAA violation). I do remember antibiotic treatment early stages of the pandemic until they got a vaccine out, but yeah wouldn't be as effective but better than nothing. As far as the Ukraine.... pinpointing a section of the country still has the similarity a section of our country that is Nevada, which is very conservative when it comes Covid policies. And yes it is in poor taste, but I use poor tastes to illustrate a point. If someone died of Covid at the Fanfest, then they would equate. I like bringing up the Ukraine, because it's illustrates how people and media treat it as "Spicy Content" for news stories, just like drama. Just like the submersible "Oh yeah they are dead but we're going to put a timer on how much air they have left so we can drag the story out for a few more days". My favorite is the "Think of the children" phrase that has been going around to protest the education of transgender individuals.... well you guys weren't thinking of them when they were eating Tide Pods and blowing each others brains out with guns. Good talk :)

I wouldn't call that valid confirmation, considering i brought a whole medicine bag just in case. Tylenol, Alieve, Gravol, Tums, bandaids etc. Now taking the dayquil and still going out? that was a mistake.

Watching this is kind of surreal. So I went to the exact same resteraunt as them around the same time with my friends. Tuesday morning, after waking up and feeling a slight chill, the first thing I did was isolate myself and get a covid test which did come back Positive twice. Contacted my friends asap which thankfully somehow they both were negative which was a relief. Makes me wonder if I contracted covid from them at the Gordon Ramsay place. Had to take a whole extra week off work and am still currently recovering from a bad cough. Any responsible person as soon as they feel an indication of being sick, the first thing you should be doing is worrying about spreading it.

I'm immune suppressed due to an autoimmune condition. Fanfest was the one time I leave home in 3 years and got covid. Having a hard time and still sick over 2 weeks later.

Several friends of mine contracted Covid during Fanfest, so hearing that this guy went into Fanfest while testing positive makes me so upset. One of my friends was bedridden for a week after Fanfest thanks to people like this person. I was around her, but I was lucky and didn't catch it. It's still infuriating.

​@@TheFizzster Yeah he didn't even test until later. After a pandemic,, it would be a considerate and intelligent thing to at least test for COVID if you are showing symptoms. COVID is hard to detect because someone infected will not show symptoms for days or weeks (it is why it is the "nightmare scenario" most experts have feared and been warning for decades), if symptoms are shown at all (even asymptomatic COVID can suffer some damage from COVID). The guy knew he was traveling likely went to tons of conventions, and is going to a large convention in one of the largest convention buildings in the USA, it would be the prudent thing to at least test.

Dodged covid for 3 years, and got it from people like this guys' poor decision making. Thanks brother

I went to FF as well. First day of the event, second in Vegas, my friend pointed out I looked tired and pale, while also feeling hot to the touch. heat index was about 115 degrees, and even though I had been drinking water the whole day consistently, I was worried of heat exhaustion or worse. So I spent the afternoon to have a nap and when I woke, I still felt tired and I was hot to the touch. Ordered doordash to get a thermometer and covid test (no the hotel did not have a clinic, only able to call a full MD aka pay $$$$ ) and I had 97 degree temp, covid tested negative. Sweet, no fever, I can leave and just get some cold fluids and caffeine in me. I had a great time with no other illness scares, other than it's friggin hot outside. Moral of the story: Yes it sucks to feel sick, let alone spending money you didn't plan on spending, but the burden of getting others sick is going to feel worse. Do the safe thing. PS: took two more covid tests a week after FF. Still negative and healthy. It was likely just mild heat exhaustion.

i went to fanfest and had a good time. i actually saw xeno on the first day when we were lining up! the day after i came back home i felt a weird sensation in the back of my throat. i drank a lot of water thinking it might be oncoming strep. the next day it was like i slammed into a wall. i had a fever over 103 degrees. i couldn't breathe. everything hurt/ached and i had intense body chills. i had placed bags of ice over my body in an attempt to control the fever. never dropped below 101. i was so lightheaded i couldn't really move around. figured it was a bad case of travel flu and i happened to be extremely unfortunate (my immune system has never been the best). nobody in my group got sick besides me. however, my sister brought me a covid test and it was positive. okay, that sucks, but there's always a risk when going to such a large event. i open youtube, and it turns out a furry got me sick and decided to make a comic for what... attention? knowing that this individual was well aware of their oncoming illness (at the very least they knew the day of the event they were sick, giving them the benefit of the doubt here) and deciding to go anyway really infuriates me. i still cant breathe properly. i can't taste or smell anything, and i don't know when it will get better.

when i had Covid i could barely sit up right, my whole body was aching, had an intense fever aswell and my body felt so cold that it was clearly unlike me. (normally i can stay in shorts/t-shirt mid winter, but i was under the blankets mid summer)

I can't wait for Xeno to see part 2 where he made a 4 panel(i believe) comic of seeing a medical emergency at the airport and then drawing a meme reference at the end and calling it a weird experience. I believe he said in a comment he titled it "Dead on Arrival" cause a friend suggested it with like an lol or smiling emoji at the end

imagine being sick and having a friend who doesn't have a ticket to get in and then not letting them go in your place LOL

I got covid three times, twice after getting fully vaccinated. The first time I got it, I got a headache that didn't go away for a whole year. It didn't come and go for the year, it literally started in the first few days of getting infected and didn't stop until over 12 months later. I'd go to bed with a headache and wake up with the same headache. By the time that went away, I got covid a second time, with my shots and boosters in my system. The headache didn't come back, but I started feeling very lethargic, like I had, at most, one hour of energy a day. That was the maximum capacity of energy I had, and my lungs felt like they had half the capacity they used to. I'm well over covid, and the third hit was a breeze, but that lethargic feeling never went away even to this day. The fact that someone knowingly put other at risk of this and was tone deaf enough to post it online for sympathy and lols is making me feel as if that covid headache never left either.

As someone who is immunocompromised and got covid once this pisses me off. I had to rush to the ER to get medication to potentially help my low immune system fight it off and thankfully it helped. It still took a whole month though for the big symptoms to subside and I am still recovering from some lingering problems 2 years later.

I'm sorry... but if you had a chill that lasted for a minute and then went away, you don't take a couple of dayquill just in case. Sometimes sudden chills just happen. If you felt "better safe than sorry" and decided to take some dayquill, there was more that you felt than just a short sudden chill and you don't want to admit it to yourself or to other people because you know at that point it makes you look like a guilty asshole and this person clearly wants people to pity them.

taking those pills, all he did was set the symptoms back so he didnt feel them anymore and he "only realised" he was sick because they wore off and no longer masked the symptoms he should have used to realise he was sick in the first place

I was a housekeeper for a hotel during COVID, it was fucking hell working with people because people like this guy are sadly more than common. At my hotel it was either business men or families going to Disneyland, and apparently to them COVID be damned if they don't see the mouse or get to their meetings. The Disney COVID people really made me angry because of the danger they could bring.

Cotton masks and N95 masks demonstrated slightly different effectiveness during the course of the pandemic (N95 are better at filtering the virus and cotton are better at filtering droplets, speaking VERY much on the general here, trying to keep it simple for NA), so it was recommended to use both kinds of masks (double mask) to minimize risk of infection and risk of spread; a locked door and dozens of feet of still air between people is still best.

I left EVO (the event one week after fanfest in the same city) a day early this year because I woke up feeling a little strange. It's not that fucking hard man. If you think you're sick don't get other people sick.

Even if i try to bend any lenience for maybe a minute morning chill could have been not taken seriously cuz of the heat or being nervous and feeling good after, the moment he wrote "I masked up and took a couple of pills for just in case" it was over. Cuz in that very moment he had the possibility of being sick in his head, otherwise he wouldnt have done that. In that moment he threw every considereation overboard for other ppl and plays it down as being considerate by masking up and taking pills...

I remember around a year ago going back to work (construction contractor, mostly remodeling) and after a few days of working for a client they called and let us know that he's had covid the entire time while walking around and interacting with us. He knew he was sick (something respiratory :/), just not that it was covid. I was beyond pissed as I have an immune compromised friend who caught it so I was aware at how bad it could be. Client then had the gale to say that we could keep working there during his quarantine since he'd be in another room. Suffice to say we didn't, and I refuse to work on any projects involving them. Some people are so irresponsible and uncaring towards other's health it's wild.

The fact this guy had the audacity to shit on the convention and the hotel for his miserable time just says a lot about what kind of person he is. Also, all the people that seem to support this guy are furries so that's another thing. He won't listen to anyone else's critiques and only responds to his furry friends who praise him for being "responsible" and "thoughtful". The guy is living in a literal echo chamber and this comic is just a way to beg for sympathy while making himself look like the victim. The guy feels no remorse for any of his actions and deserves to be shit on by the entire FFXIV community.

As a healthcare worker who has gotten covid twice and mono once from my patients in 5 years, I can definitely agree on people needing more consideration for those with immunocompromised conditions. Its ridiculous how many people are just ignorant.

Tbh xenos, I think you could have done everything in fanfest. They had like 6 mini games and the battle challenge. Day 1 was abysmal, but day 2 was okay. There was no line on the battle challenge around 3pm on day 2. The only issue was whether it was worth waiting like 40 minutes to do those bummy mini games, lol.

Anyone who feels for Val shouldn't because not only is he defending his friend for this, he tweeted out some antivaxxer stuff apparently. 🤷

Didn't that happen at blizcon or one other gaming conventions where someone went covid so bunch people got stuck at home.

Even if it ended up being just the common flu, you don't go to a convention while you're sick. This was the case pre-pandemic and still is today. I was in the same situation when I went to Blizzcon 2016. Ended up staying in my hotel room high on meds and watched the event on my phone. It sucked big time, but hey, I would not even had enjoyed being there at that point and things would probably have gotten worse if I went.

I'm sure i'm younger than that guy because i'm still in college and have no money. But i know for sure that i should've taken the test immediately and if i do have covid then i'd stay in the hotel to take care of it or go back home immediately. The fact that he chose to go despite being sick, and chances of him spreading covid is baffling. He's making it like he's the only one facing the repercussions, while in reality anyone could've get infected or worse, dies. Knowing that someone i knew died from covid, i'll just give him the middle finger here.

I have experience working as convention staff, last time I worked was a month before covid and genuinely this shit Fenrir did pisses me off. Cause convention staff work hard to ensure people are safe if they were managed properly and cared in my case yes we did. We want people to enjoy themselves but with people like this it makes it hard for us and our guests to have a grand enough time cause some dickwad got sick with a virus. And to point out I am not Fanfest I worked Anime Milwaukee for a great portion of my youth and early adulthood because my mom was staff and it was a nice outing for me and my siblings those outings are special to me and it would piss just about anyone off if randomjackass67 came in hacking his lungs out spreading a disease cause he didn't practice basic self care and testing for illness.

Never got COVID, but had 3 cold/flus during 2020-1. My boss told me to just claim I had a migraine and show up when my nose wasn't running anymore.

I don't know US laws regarding vacations. But in Sweden atleast, if you're sick or hurt during vacation, you get those vacation days back. You just call in sick & they turn it into sick days instead & then you get to keep your vacation days to plan later.
