Fun fact about exploding silver chests, tripmines traps can spawn next to them. I've experienced a few PoTD runs that failed due to everyone exploding due to a wombo combo

Took me forever to get necromancies title but Angelus makes this look so easy :)

Jesus Christ, I've completed potd with a party and it was a WILD TIME and took so many wipes, the fact that he's just running around these enemies and knows their aggro vision so well is absolutely staggering. So many of these mobs will just destroy you if they even look at you.

Really happy to see either of the online Final Fantasies get the recognition/shout out they deserve. Totally underrated games still to this day.

I love FFXIV but it's literally like the second biggest/biggest MMO

The setup on the Behemoth fight followed by the intense close burst was awesome!

Fantastic run. I love Deep Dungeons because the way they play is so different from all the rest of FFXIV. You get to see a lot more about what classes can do beyond "how much DPS can they push in a 99% deterministic environment?". Hope the new Deep Dungeon proves as fun as PotD/HoH.

TLDR: FF14 changed my life and it is awesome seeing it being run at GDQ! Short story: FF14 was one of my first MMORPGs, as I was fairly new to the genre (other than Club Penguin, SWOTOR, WOW, and Runescape). When I saw people playing music in Gridania, I thought these were actual musicians playing music. I wanted to play the music too and it brought back memories of my childhood, playing Guitar Hero 2. So I started grinding. I had no idea what I was doing other than I needed to unlock the Bard job to unlock the "Performance" ability. Also, I knew nothing about jobs, the archer class, etc. Just basic noob activity. I didn't care at all about the story or endgame just the performance ability. Finally, I unlocked the performance action and spent about 3 hours trying to map all the keys on the virtual keyboard to my pc keyboard in a way that made sense. I should also mention that my playthrough was using keyboard only just like the GDQ runner. I gathered a group of in-game friends I made over my 40 hr play time (yes it took that long ) and played marry had a little lamb. I told them that I was going to practice to be able to play the more complex pieces. Then one of them mentioned, "Oh, they're are using scripts to play those songs." I felt duped. I didn't even think about that as a possibility. So what did I do? I thanked them for helping a noob and being kind. I logged off and learned to play the piano. 1.5 years later because of that experience, I still play about 10hrs a week and have about 30 minutes of rotating pieces in my repertoire. I knew nothing about music. Not even the name of notes, how to read sheet music, or what a scale was. I just decided, if FF14 would make me grind to play a virtual piano, why not just learn the real thing. I've learned The FF14 Prelude, Forest of Hope (Pikman), Halo Theme Song, and even some classical pieces (Minuet in G) and now learning Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrance and Sorrow and Sadness (Naruto). I was self-taught for 5 months and then hired a tutor as well. Needless to say, FF14 has had a huge impact on my life and it is awesome to see it being run in GDQ. Thanks for reading.

Having hit floor 50 before in PotD, I can only imagine how rough it gets up in these floors 0_o

Angelus is a literal one man army and kudos for the caster to know so much insider stuff, guess he plays as well XD

Shame about the stream stutters but was a great and informative run

Talking about the MCH buff we MCH mains are hilariously more excited that we can throw wrenches at enemies heads again over the much more impressive stabilization of the Hypercharge mechanic no longer requiring 0 ping to be competitive in raids.

For those wondering, 44:45 is when Angelus vs Behemoth begins. 🐰

Next year hopefully they'll try doing a dungeon or trial race between two teams of players, that'd be neat.

Honestly, an incredible category would be “Every capstone Savage Synced” T5, T9, T13 A4S, A8S, A12S O4S, O8S, O12S E4S, E8S, E12S P4S, P8S 14 raids. Target time: 5 Hours. Alternatively, ever Ultimate in a row. UCOB, UWU, TEA, DSR, and TOP. Target time: 2.5 hours.

This was one of my favorite runs to watch. I'll take this run over the countless Zelda/Metroid/Mario runs that were on schedule. it's good to see something new at the marathon and not the same old boring game that's there every year.

saw this on the schedule and my jaw dropped wide open. never thought to see ffxiv on here, much less potd!

Nice run! My PotD runs usually die to disconnections. Frustrating. That Necromancer title might be out of my reach. :(

I saw ff14 speed run and I was like there's no way he did Realm Reborn in under and hour. This makes more sense

I was happy yet so confused when I saw this was a FFXIV speedrun, then I realized it wasn't MSQ but was the POTD dungeon 😭😅

the first 150 hours will be a struggle, after that you reach "late" game and the fun begins, i would say 200 hours but it deppends how you play

Oof, it seemed like Angelus was getting a bit annoyed at that second restart in the middle of the run. I wonder what was going on? Glad it only happened twice!

There's a particle effect that's everywhere inside 151-200 that's murder for encoders so that's probably why the issues started as soon as he went in.

MCH may get shittalked by raiders but it will always be king of POTD

Why did he restart

I keep laughing at this run because while I'm familiar with the monsters of classic FF games, seeing a dungeon full of giant Noah's ark animals just seems hilarious to me. Just a gauntlet of asset store wildebeasts.

I think this is a Deep Dungeon. Not actually beating 860+ MSQ in 45min.

Is the 2 hands on keyboard a big deal? Like you really dont need to use mouse, tab for targeting, etc

Some people rely a lot on mouse when they play mouse and keyboard. For me personally I play kb/m and if I had to switch to kb only it would be a huge adjustment. I use my mouse for a lot. I have 6 different skills bound to my extra mouse keys(and could bind up to 6 more as I have 12 extra buttons on my mouse), I use it for quick camera movement without facing away from mobs I'm attacking/players I'm healing. It gives me great easy options for my healing.(I target with a mouse click and am casting raise or rescue or on AST my cards with one of my extra buttons, casting heal by pressing 1 on my keyboard) and tab targeting can be finicky. Honestly I'm more comfortable playing *mouse* only than I would be kb only.(As you can move by pressing both left and right mouse buttons I can click all my skills pretty easily) It would of course depend on the person but most of the people in my group who play xiv are either controller or rely a lot on both parts of the m/kb combination.
