Final Fantasy XI: Op-Editorial - State of The Tank Jobs (Feat. Martel, Logical & Crowned)

Ойындар

Heck of a project this one, not to mention probably the most ambitious video I've ever done; we'll just have to see how it's received!
This isn't a straight-up X vs Y or Z vs X video, but comparing the attributes of the tanks will inevitably come up. This is more an informational guide on where each of the four main tank jobs currently is in the meta. The goal here is to help people see what they all bring to a group.
For a project of this scale, I understood that people just taking my word for it would be a bit much, so I reached out to some of the best players I've encountered on these jobs and had them chime in with their own thoughts. We don't necessarily agree on everything but hey, it engenders discussion so it's a win for everyone.

TL;DR: There will be a follow-up video to this one. My hands are held up, I think I made a mistake in leaving PUP out... but I'm still not fully convinced. Ok, this video has garnered a lot of attention and discussion so I'd best chime in. The discussion part is great, that's what I make videos like this for! I'd like to say that I made the decisions not to include MNK/DRK/BLU for good reasons I had no chance of fitting in here given how long it already was. To fully explain why I'd have to break down how Enmity Bleed/Loss works and it'd all make perfect sense why they're not up here. PUP's omission was more out of uncertainty, I'm no slouch at the job myself but I've never seen it brought to any content outside of things being SMN burned. This changed with something I saw tonight while doing some Omen runs and I will be addressing PUP directly in the follow-up.

It’s strange. BLU’s enmity generation is/was notably higher than PLD. With the recent buffs to PLD that’s likely no longer the case but BLU’s no slouch at all at pulling and holding hate with its spells. I have a suspicion that a proper BLU tank hasn’t been witnessed maybe? Spicyryan is a good call for this unless there’s a good one in your shell already. MNK was a surprise because it’s essentially the same function as WAR but different strengths. Both DPS for hate, both have amazing HP and defense. However MNK is far better for Magic Evasion, Self Sustain, Subtle Blow and Mitigation in the form of counters and Counterstance where viable. WAR’s get hate NOW is Mightystrikes, MNKs is Hundred Fists; honestly I don’t think you can dismiss one without dismissing them both as both jobs regularly see time tanking just because they pulled hate at some point and it became a “May as well” situation lol. There’s several Reisen HELM and VD HTBF fights where a MNK as tank is critical for very practical reasons so It will be interesting to see the follow up video for this. May have accidentally stirred some debates here lol

I totally disagree Rua. What enmity bleed/loss has to do with blu, drk, mnk tanking? Blu in his hybrid set has massive meva only 2nd to Run afaik , 50%dt with phalanx or 57.5% DT with barrier tusk. 12 blink shadows every -teen sec. +75% def (or +87.5% not sure) from cocoon and mighty guard. Then you have sudden lunge with massive stun. What enmity bleed you are talking about here vs WAR who gets smack over and over again with just same/lower DT, no shadows, worse meva and less defense? Then we have DRK. Enmity loss from getting damaged is based on maximum hp. With 9000+ hp DRK can be hit for twice as much as WAR with 3000 hp and will still lose less enmity ( formula is 1800×damage÷maxHP, so everyone can check it). DRK has also free subjob selection because you can use Last Resort to cap delay with just haste2 or honor march+haste1. So you can even sub /blu and offset def down from LR with cocoon (still with overall def gain) and has access to aoe hate spells if needed or you can sub SAM, but use seigan/third eye instead of must have hasso on WAR, or you can sub /NIN, /RUN or whatever else. MNK also has same or higher HP(+ mantra), has subtle blow and chi blast/penance resulting in less tp moves, so less damage taken usually, so less enmity bleed. Counters and perfect counter helps a lot too. Hybrid TP set has much higher meva and 50%dt. Please explain to me how enmity bleed is a thing against blu drk and mnk now and its not against war. Because for now it looks like a really poor excuse.

First I have to say I LOVE the collaboration . It’s what made this game great and it’s nice to see it trickle down into the community. The only thing I would add here are a few things missed for PLD. All other jobs BIS weapons were mentioned here (Epo, etc) but no mention of PLD best weapon. Burtgang. With burt enmity loss is drastically cut. So much so I can usually just flash and shield bash and the mob is mine. This is vs an alliance spamming 99k ws. Vs a boss it’s /blu the mob will never turn. Two other things that were missed is Fealty and chivalry. As PLD with fealty up I can outright resist all status ailment for 1 minute, and chivalry will give me massive MP return. Also as main healer I have -110% spell interruption Mideast set that allows me to get my spells off no matter how many hits I’m taking (barring stun or silence) and with echos etc my tank is always last man standing. I’ll always prefer PLD when being able to stand alone is needed.

I haven't played in over a decade at this point but one of my favorite combos for just messing around and soloing during Campaign events was pld/sch (I was a taru whm main mind you). Sublimation and Dark Arts Aspir combined with the lower MP cost from Light Arts spells turned me into a veritable self-sustaining dynamo. Add in the ridiculously fast Primate's staff+1 (with latent activate) and the weapon skill Spirit Taker and the MP flow never ended.

Another great video, Rua. Here's a suggestion for improving PLD. It needs tanking gear that has enough accuracy to make hitting things for TP generation viable on endgame content. An ilvl119 shield to take advantage of Shield Mastery may also improve the situation here, as endgame content favors the use of Aegis. PLD also needs WS gear that has enough HP+ that you don't drop 1000hp to macro in WS gear. Not suggesting its damage output be brought up to the equivalent of RUN, but good grief, it would go a long way to alleviating some of the issues with PLD to have the ability to generate SOME enmity from damage.

Well done guide. I feel however that there are three or more jobs potentially left out that routinely take on the tanking roll that might have been over looked. Although one of them is very specifically niche, One may have been left off the list for very good reasons that usually keep it from being used as tank in the first place and the last one only recently started to gain the tanking reputation. PUP. Near Invincible but super niche and you must play to the PUP's strengths or it wont hold hate. Useful for super dangerous mobs but this holes it into only a handful of fights that'd make PUP desirable. BLU. Extremely good at tanking and holding Enmity, Has Malignance set as well as Almighty Tizona for essentially infinite MP. Can crowd control with ease with it's AoE spells for holding hate, sleeping and Petrifying mobs and other cool things. Can Self-Cure and AoE Cure and basically cannot die unless one-shotted. Notable problems however is it's naturally low HP make it susceptible to being 1-shot on heavier hitting mobs and it has a pretty steep learning curve to do it's tanking role correctly. MNK. Is now seeing more rotation as primary tank for the exact same reasons as WAR. Largest born HP pool in the game, Malignance and Kendatsuba set for MEva/DT for days and one of the highest DPS values in the game while providing one of the highest Subtle Blow values of all jobs except maybe NIN. Chakra will save it's ass in a pinch as even a half-assed Chakra set will heal for somewhere around 4,000 HP while removing several stat ailments. Along with Inner Strength which will Spike your max HP and cap it at the same time. Can also use Mantra to boost the max HP of the party for a period of time which makes great use against targets with "Needle" Attacks. The Icing on the cake is MNK's use of Counter-stance. It drops your Defense by 50% but as long as your Target does not have any Major Physical attacks this is a non-issue and MNK can safely avoid a very large portion of incoming attacks. And unlike WAR, MNK's DPS is roughly 50% Melee compared to other jobs so it doesn't suffer (As Much) from Amnesia for hate loss. In my humble opinion, if you're going to have WAR in the list, you may as well put MNK in there too. Another honorable mention I'm being told is Dancer but I don't know enough about it to put it in with the list of Viable/End-Game tanks.

You hit the nail on the head with BLU. Has enmity spells for days, is the only job that has a magic evasion trait, saline coat +50mdb, barrier tusk (surpasses dt taken cap, for a max of 57.5% dt), occultation (10-12 shadows with a proc rate if ~75%). Magic barrier, Mighty Guard cocoon, atk down, etc. A turtled BLU is extremely hard to kill, as it can have the physical def of a PLD, magic evasion/magic defense if a RUN, and shadows of a NIN, all weaker than the mains, but BLU has it all simultaneously. Like you said, if BLU isn't 1shot, it won't die (magic fruit is spammable and cures over 1200hp nearly instantly with capped fastcast), not to mention AoE cures and erases. And is the only job that can maintain the atk speed cap on its own with just 2 spells every 8.5/10 mins. So instead of haste, the tank pt support is freed up for other buffs. HP is BLUs only tanking weakness, but if it's not getting 1shot at 2500hp, an extra 500 to 800 hp wont really make a difference. And it can switch to club in a crunch and spam moonlight to be a pt mp battery as well. A good BLU is definitely underrated. But is VERY gear intensive.

  • @Mortlock2204

Fermion he follows up in a more recent video why BLU doesn’t pan out and I agree with it. Basically it boils down to effort vs reward. BLU CAN tank effectively but you’ve gotta go way out of your way to do it well; spell timings, gearsets meds, reactions, healing AND DAMAGE or it doesn’t work and it is very hard to do all of these things all at once. You work so hard making BLU tank work that you’re better off just going RUN instead because they both fill the hybrid role nicely and less than half the effort you’d spend pushing BLU-Tank would make you a stellar RUN anyway so why not?

  • @Fermion.

    @Fermion.

    3 жыл бұрын

@@Mortlock2204 Why not? Because I just play with a small static, and asking someone to gear up RUN (if they enjoyed it, it'd be leveled already) isnt something we do. Hell, for 90% of the content in the game, you can just throw malignance DDs with trusts and face roll it. We're just doing omen bosses and dyna d farming now, which neither requires a "real" tank anyway. 5/5 Malignance really makes that much of a difference. It's truly an incredible hybrid set. For instance, on Sarama, even after Gates of Hades x3, I barely go to yellow hp.

  • @Fermion.

@@Mortlock2204 Besides, every tank job requires spell timings, reactions and meds. Not sure why you're singling out BLU for that lol. BLU has a 102% spell interruption down set, and capped fastcast, so your point about timing is moot anyway.

A short recast AoE enmity spell, or a self cast spell like foil and the ability to cap delay w/o having to rely on a DNC to be in the party. I actually forgot it got access to banishga now. Haven’t played for over 12 months. PLD can hold hate on multiple mobs, but It can only do it well with /BLU. RUN simply has more options as it can do it just effectively with /DRK and still dish out some damage. There is no good enough reason to sub anything else but BLU on PLD cause your just not as effective enough at anything else but damage mitigation and general tanking. PLD just lacks any versatility. Could probably leave it’s spells as is but I really think being able to cap delay in a normal meta set up is huge to be able to put out effective damage on the job. Yes you can do it /DRK but you lose the “fencer” traits /WAR give you so it still not good enough to warrant running hybrid DD on anything serious. I agree with Rua on this that if they gave PLD some “fencer” traits or a JA haste ability would go a long way to fixing this issue...

  • @SageAtoreis

PLD and WAR are not tied to lowest magic evasion. PLD has slightly higher magic evasion from Gifts and has a shield with 50 magic evasion. In general PLD MEVA set is not that bad anymore, but requires 3 Volte pieces from Windurst (feet, legs, head). You covered RUN, PLD and NIN very nicely, but placing WAR in this mix of tanks is imo kinda silly. It's not a tank. It's a simple DD with utility JA. His only real tank tool is Provoke. You can literally put any other DD as tank if you include WAR in this list and several of them will be more suited for tanking too. DRK can reach 9999HP, cast 7000+ Dread Spikes with low recast, spam stun for hate, use Apocalypse/Catastrophe for self sustain, doesn't need hasso, so has free subjob selection. It has SP abilities that are great to finish off mobs, because you can push self sustain even further and lock TP generation on target. It also has unique buffs/debuffs JA against Arcana. It's literally better tank than WAR in every aspect of tanking. Then you have BLU capable of breaking 50% pdt cap ), having better self target enmity spells than Foil, easily competing with RUN and WAR DPS in hybrid sets (simply because Malignance is better offensive hybrid set than what RUN and WAR have), having tons of utility buffs and debuffs (including really powerful ones under Unbridled Learning like -33% def down, -30MDB, Full Erase, Full Dispel etc.), being able to AoE heal for 1300+ HP. Being able to self heal for even more. Having 11+ blink shadows on -teen seconds cooldown. Having spamable stun spell that can shut down everything not immune to stun. Having AoE Erase, sleep, stun. Being able to steal powerful buffs from enemy (niche but still). Having Mighty Guard, which is one of the best buff spell in the game and can be used for whole party. Having magic evasion second to only RUN I think. Having huge MDB buff spell. Being able to set wide variety of offensive and defensive traits. WAR tank looks like a joke compared to BLU. There is also PUP tank which is niche, but amazing tank. I would also even put THF niche tanking over WAR. With proper buffs you can actually cap evasion against many targets now, while also having very high meva, DT and accuracy (again Malignance set) and in low group scenario with not many DD, you can actually just take 40% enmity from someone in your party and add to yourself, which is far more effective than Cover, doesnt require someone else to take hate over "tank" and has 3x shorter cooldown. Then you have DD jobs with great survivablity like MNK or DNC. MNK being easily the better hybrid dd/tank for low man groups, where limited TP feed is very noticable and DNC having massive self sustain and very good group utility in form of Haste Samba, unique def down with Box step and unique +14% crit rate. You can also break 50% pdt cap with fan dance (62.5% is achievable full time).

It is something I used to do waaayyy back in 75 era very effectively, but last time I brought this concept up to people, I was told not to bother/try because almost everything now worth fighting has much too high accuracy. Do you have any sets built on ffxiah or write-ups I might be able to read?

He was able to cap evasion against WAve 1 mobs and Wave 1 boss for sure (we are talking about 2000 evasion or something like that). I dont remember it well. He used mambo, path c Gandering, Nibiru dagger, jse+2 neck and other sutff with high meva. It’s undoubtedly a VERY capable tank but the BLUs that actually do this are very rare so it makes some sense that he hasn’t seen it maybe? Add also that BLU with it’s trademark weapon, Tizona has practically infinite MP to spam whatever it wants as long as it can hit the target (with Malignance, not a problem)

As a career warrior, who's been lucky to make some friends that let me bring it as a tank for certain content, I want to give my 2 cents(this might be pretty long so bear with me): I agree with what most of Crown and Ruau had to say about Warrior tank, but I think there are some things that might have been overlooked. I completely agree that against fights that have multiple enemies, warrior tank is not a good option, it is EXTREMELY difficult to hold hate on multiple targets, maybe not impossible but it's just way easier to have a RUN or PLD in those situations. I do agree that on single target fights it is great though. However, I think that the "sword and board" warrior tank approach is being highly underrated in this video. As a warrior who has Afterglowed Farsha, Dolichenus, and Naegling, using a one handed weapon with any of those is incredibly powerful still, and you can output enough damage to hold hate. Obviously it won't be quite as much damage as a Great Axe overall, but it's not so far off that it should be completely disregarded because Fencer and some weapon choices work well. Tanking with Farsha is nice, because you just get your Lv 3 Empyrean aftermath carry a lot of your dps, while spamming 2k+ Calamity. The damage is still respectable enough to be viable, and axe's white damage isn't something to laugh at, it can rival the white damage of a lot of 2 handed weapons. Also, spamming 1k Decimiations with Kaja Axe or Dolichenus is good in some situations too, or Savage Blade with Kaja Sword/Naegling is nice too. I don't expect many people to have an afterglowed Farsha, in fact it might be one of the least owned REMAs in the game.. and Empyreans are on the more difficult side to build, but I still think it shouldn't be overlooked. One other thing that shouldn't be overlooked on WAR tank is your subjob choices. If you are doing a sword and board build, both dancer sub and paladin sub are great choices, and I was a little sad to see it overlooked in the video. One of Warrior tank's problems is volatile enmity, however in particular, having paladin sub gives you some more options for holding hate. Having access to sentinel, flash, and some cure spells can help with enmity control if needed. Also, for dancer sub, you get access to haste samba which is a nice support not only for the warrior but for all dps of the party. Not to mention you get animated flourish to give you another option for tanking.

Okay 1. Farsha fencer build might be solid with a dedicated set built around it's am3 effect, but it lacks any form of defensive stats, or very minimal amounts. Do you plan to use a hybrid dt/crit rate/crit damage set? How about meva and mdb pieces? At that point, you might as well swap to naegling and use savage blade. 2. "spamming decimations with kaja axe or dolichenus" No. You're on the topic of fencer war, and you have no idea how decimation works. Decimation does not scale damage with higher tp, so using it with fencer contradicts the build and its benefits. www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Decimation / www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Fencer 3. "both dancer sub and paladin sub are great choices" dnc is decent if you don't have a main dnc in the party, 5% haste samba is great but 73% haste still sucks. Now paladin sub? No. Sub paladin gives you such a small native MP pool and without any native refresh, you are going to run out of mp quick. Sentinel and flash might be decent for hate, but sentinel is nerfed from sub. Sentinel is the only saving grace of /pld. Cure spells for hate? You need to look up how cures and enmity works. Animated flourish is a poor man's provoke. Its like a pld going /war, just don't. www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Enmity .

@@ItsCrowned Hey thanks for the reply. Just to let you know, I appreciate your input on this video, and your reply. You don't need to be so defensive and aggressive because I wasn't attacking you, I was just pointing out some things that have worked for me in my own experiences. I'll respond to your points to hopefully make what I meant clearer, I wrote it quickly before going out. 1. I'm still working on it, and it's definitely not "perfect", but I'll just tell you my set so it's easier to understand, but imo it has a good mix of -dt (we hit 50), good meva and mdb on most of the pieces, with a good mix of crit rate and some extra added white damage. I'm sacrificing a little bit of equipment haste (only 21) but I'm thinking about changing my belt or something else to help with that, it's still not perfect like I said: Head: Hjarrandi (high -dt, mdb, and HP, and we get some double attack.. negatives being low evasion and magic evasion no haste) Body: Hjarrandi (same benefits/drawbacks as above, but with increased crit instead of double attack) Back: JSE cape with crit rate -dt accuracy Shield: Adapa for the HP, shield skill, block chance, and -dt Neck: Loricate Torque +1 Hand: Flamma +2 (mainly for the extra crit) Belt: Ioskeha Legs: Agoge Cuisses +3 (these have pretty good MDB and magic evasion, but the main reason I chose these is for the 11% increase in white damage on double attacks) Feet: Pummeler's Calligae +3 (again, pretty good MDB and magic evasion for warrior) Ring 1: Moonbeam Ring Ring 2: Defending Ring Earring 1: Brutal Earring Earring 2: Cessance Earring Ammo: Ginsen For me, it's worked pretty well with as my Farsha tank set. Savage blade can definitely outperform Calamity when using both at 3k, but personally I prefer the added white damage from empyrean aftermath axe. 2. Yeah, I wasn't saying it's the most ideal situation for warrior, because decimation and fencer don't have good synergy, I was just saying decimation spam with one of those axes is still an option for damage(especially since most don't have a farsha and it's much easier to get a kaja axe). I don't know the data, but just spamming decimation right when you hit 1k tp over and over, might be better than savage blade, it'd at least be competitive I'd imagine. It's a shame that decimation scales accuracy with TP, it'd be amazing with Fencer otherwise! I was just suggesting that as an option not saying it's the greatest thing ever to do with a "sword and board" type build haha. 3. To be fair, there aren't many dancers in parties, outside of certain people who are big fans of the job and are dedicated to it, and have friends that let them play it, it's not too common to see one in a party. So, I think there are plenty of chances to break out the /dnc even just for haste samba. As for pld sub, I've used it a small handful of times, and it was alright. I think the main thing with going full on with a "sword and board" setup warrior, is that there isn't really a "best" subjob for it. It's not like when you are using a Great Axe, in that case obviously Samurai sub is going to be the best. But for /pld, the small mp pool isn't really that big of a deal, because when I did it a few times, all I really did was use flash every now and then and sentinel, to be honest I don't think I even used a cure spell lol. I respect your opinion about using great axe with a tank warrior, wasn't saying that's not valid. I just personally prefer the option of having a shield, especially if it's going to be a drawn out fight of some sort.

Nelekets calamity is just an all around inferior ws to Savage blade. 50% str and vit mods, decent ftp growth from 1k to 3k tp. Savage blade has nearly the same ftp at 2k tp as calamity does at 3k. Am3 from farsha doesn't make up that gap even in the slightest, it's not even close. Gearing for crit rate and damage, while also gearing for dt really waters down the effects of am3. Also not to mention your set is not even close to haste capped. 21% + 43% + 5% = 69% haste. To take advantage of empty am3 the most, you ideally want to be haste (delay) capped. Farsha with am3 and fencer really is super contradictory, to the point where it's not even worth mentioning to anyone serious about warrior. www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/371482 This is the set I referred to in the video. 100% double attack, capped pdt/mdt, and pretty high levels of hp and meva. Why would anyone give up averaging 2.0+ attacks per attack round, to boost their white damage slightly further while also tanking their haste? I understand that volte gear is extremely rare and it's unfair to ask anyone to have any of it. This set can easily be tweaked to be slightly less than 100% DA and capped dt. Obviously that's a dps loss, but it's still far and away superior to your "farsha am3" build.

@@ItsCrowned Again, you don't have to be so aggressive and condescending in your responses, I'm only here still to have a healthy discussion that leads to something beneficial. Also, the whole point of this video, as I see it, is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of how each tank job works, as well as suggesting viable ways to make them work as tanks(ie warrior which isn't usually thought of as a tank). As Ruau himself said at the start of the video, the key attributes for tanks are durability, group utility, self-sustain, enmity generation & retention, and damage output. I'm making a claim for a more defensive oriented build, that's all. You don't have to try to shut me down with comments like "Farsha with am3 and fencer really is super contradictory, to the point where it's not even worth mentioning to anyone serious about warrior." Do you even realize how elitist and condescending that makes you sound? I'm simply suggesting a different approach, I'm not saying my appraoch is better or worse than yours. I've had some success my way the times I've been able to do it that way, and you've had success your way as well. It's obvious to me that you are mainly arguing for a "max damage to hold hate" approach with your comments in the video, and I appreciate your perspective. I also agree that that is a great approach in a lot of situations. But as Ruau himself also said in the video, "it's situational". One way isn't always the best way, and you don't always need "the most optimal" way to play, clear things, and enjoy this game. Like you yourself said in the video: "warrior holds a monster's attention through the sheer raw damage that it's dealing". I agree with that point 100%, and I can see that the build you linked to is definitely a result of that thinking. But, that is not the ONLY way that a warrior can hold hate. You don't absolutely need a Great Axe build to hold a monster's attention. All I'm suggesting, and the whole point of my first comment, is an alternative way to effectively hold a monster's hate. The only thing I'm suggesting is a build that fits into other aspects of a tank's usefulness. Again, as mentioned by Ruau at the start of the video, the key attributes for tanks are durability, group utility, self-sustain, enmity generation & retention, and damage output. Your Great Axe build is heavily invested into "damage output", while my way of thinking is leaning more towards durability and group utility, with alternative forms of enmity generation rather than just raw damage. Now, just to respond to two specific things you said, "calamity is just an all around inferior ws to Savage blade". I agree, Savage blade is better. However, I don't think the gap is as wide as you think. Yes, savage blade scales better with TP, and hits a little harder, but it's not as much as a front runner as you'd think compared to calamity and mistral axe(both being axe's best choice outside of decimation spam with Kaja/dolichenus). I think savage blade and sword probably do come out in front a little over farsha with am3, but it's probably not much in situations where you can get a lot of white damage out. Last, about my gearset, like I said it's not perfect, but it worked alright like that. I have some ideas to make it better with a "sword and board" approach. I haven't had a chance to use my warrior in a "main tank" setup in a while though in a party, so I have never gotten around to it. But, I'd like to change out previously mentioned helmet and gloves, for the pummeler's helm and gloves, for the +27 enmity(as a point of comparison, pld only gets +30 enmity from 4 pieces from it's reforged AF, so it's not a bad enmity boost for just 2 slots) and other beneficial stats(they also give physical damage taken minus), and then trying out an ambuscade cape that has +10 enmity on it, possibly.. I think having +37 enmity from those 3 pieces might actually make a big difference in hate control as well without hurting my damage too much(I'll lose some crit, but I think the extra enmity will greatly make up for it from a tank standpoint). You never know how well it works until you try, and I will someday! Honestly, I'm just approaching war tank from a more tanky standpoint, while you are approaching it from a more damage oriented point of view. Like I said, there is no question that your great axe build will outdamage my axe build. But, it doesn't mean that warrior can't tank effectively otherwise, which is the whole point of this video, and the whole point of my first comment. Personally, I don't mind giving up some damage for an increase in durability and other methods of controlling hate. Comparing it to Ruau's comparison chart at the end of the video, I'd say my way brings warrior's durability up to a B, or possibly a B+, while lowering the damage down to Rune Fencer level at about A or so. I'm willing to live with that trade off, rather than your approach where your damage is S, and durability is probably C or possibly C+. Both ways are viable in my mind. After typing all of this, if you can't see my point of view still.. well, I'll just live and let live, and I'll keep enjoying warrior my way. Cheers and thanks again for you input in the video!

@@ItsCrowned If you are so nitpicking about other people comments. I will let you taste your own medicine. 1. Your set is not high meva. It's 207 meva below what NIN, MNK, BLU can equip in just 5 main slots. High meva set on WAR is only with 5/5 Volte or 4 volte pieces + Sacro body (Raetic hands and Macabre gauntlets being option too, but with higher hit to DPS). On top of that most other DD jobs being able to hybrid tanking can also sub /run without much impact to DPS and even 2 gimped runes are another 58(?) meva (to one element but still). BLU can also get another 36 meva from trait. Just to put this into perspective, Indi Attunement from Idris Geo is +125 meva. 2. Empy AM3 is actually a very good idea for tanking, because the biggest treat for hybrid DD tanking is when you switch to WS gear (Rua mentioned it while talking about RUN hybrid tanking and recognized that as a treat even for RUN, so its far worse for WAR) and your approach will actually put you in WS set very often, while Empy AM3 approach will maintain good DPS even when you need to hold a lot to time your WS. 3. Fencer is not only TP bonus. Its also +12% crit rate and that has a great synergy with Empy AM3, so dont say stupid things like " Farsha with am3 and fencer really is super contradictory, to the point where it's not even worth mentioning to anyone serious about warrior. " because this is not true. It's a build that ideally requires haste samba buff for optimal DPS, but Fencer definitely mix with Empy AM3 very nicely.

ImmortalDraylo after seeing great BLU tanking first hand it really should be on here. It’s ability to generate VE/CE from spells is very strong, and when spell-kitted for it, it’s extremely resilient and just incredibly difficult to kill, especially with Malignance set. And with Tizona you have effectively infinite MP. About the only weakness BLU has is its low HP. Generating CE as quickly as it does makes this a non-issue but it moreso makes it vulnerable to Heavy attacks. It will very likely survive basically everything but it may lose half its HP where a kitted RUN or PLD would lose a 3rd.

10s into the vid: the four tank jobs? ... RUN, PUP, ???, PLD, BLM?, NIN?, MNK? edit: about 2min in, WAR? I'd have guessed BLU and DNC before WAR.

As a player that 5 box PUP's, it is very sad to not see PUP as endgame worthy for tanking, but I do agree, there is not enough a PUP tank can do to hold hate when you have REMA DD's doing WSC's. There is ZERO abilities for PUP tanks to contain adds, it's down right not fair, but SE calls the shots here. PUP's are great for low man content, but when your only way to tank and win is Overdrive, you only have about 3 mins to finish the fight. My PUP army is capable of many wins, but it fails completely at crowd control and holding hate with just a provoke every 30 seconds on a "single" mob. It pisses me off to no end that PUP is not an endgame tank!!!! I'll admit the other tanks have me out classed, but I'll never give up on PUPs; I'll eventually find a way to show everyone that PUP is a top 3 tank!!!! thanks for the video, keep up the good work for our small community.

I thnk you being lazy on the pup tanking. Granted, 5-boxing is alot of work, but I can hold hate when pup tanking against rema dd's. Its not JUST provoke. Its also flash and shield bash. Also, I usually open w/ flash > ventriloquy before deploying to get a good boost at start up. I also watch the ja timers and swap in pet enmity set whenever voke/flash/bash are up for recast. my pup is slower to cap enmity compared to run or pld, but it STAYS there VERY well. Only trouble is when dd's start to cap enmity, but that will happen with any tank.

@@samuelhicks8277 Yeah, Calamity is a good weaponskill. and bst can self skillchain and skillchain with pet very well. In fact, I reliably make longer skillchains on my bst. However this is not reliable source of enmity generation or retention. Hence, Enmity management is the only ability bst lacks in order to make it a good tank job.
