Final Fantasy X Stat Maxing Guide Episode 4: Farming Defense, Magic Def, Evasion & Accuracy Spheres!

Ойындар

Hello all, and welcome to my Stat-maxing guide for Final Fantasy X!
These videos aim to show the best tips and tricks to max your stats on Final Fantasy X and legitimately beat the Dark Aeons without just summoning Yojimbo and praying for Zanmato.
There are lots of things that players don't generally consider when doing the endgame sections of the game, and you can save yourself hours and hours of time if you use the correct techniques and complete the process in a specific order. You should capture 10 of every Monster from every area before embarking on your stat-maxing journey, so check out my Capturing tips videos to help with that if you haven't done so already.
This episode focuses on which stats you can max after Strength.
Next up after Strength are Defense and Magic Defense. You get Defense Spheres for beating Tanket. Tanket is the Armoured Mole species creation, and whilst it is quite an interesting and potentially dangerous enemy, with 255 Strength, Auto-Haste and decent Agility it's easy to beat. You get 2 Defense Spheres for an Overkill and you need 25 Defense Spheres to reach 255 Defense when you've activated all of the existing Defense nodes on the Standard Sphere Grid, so that'll be approximately 15+ battles versus Tanket when you take into account the ones where you'll get the rare drop of Dark Matter instead.
Magic Defense is even easier to get and you need 32 Magic Def Spheres to max Magic Def at 255 on top of what is already on the Standard Sphere Grid. You'll probably have these already from Episode 1 when we were farming Triple AP weapons from One Eye because that is the enemy that drops them. If you're short of these 32 Magic Def Spheres One Eye will be incredibly easy to beat now anyway, and any spare or unnecessary Triple AP weapons you get can be sold for profit!
Now that Defense, Magic Def and Strength are all sorted the last things to consider are Agility, Magic, Luck, Accuracy and Evasion. Magic (not needed) and Agility (already enough on the Standard Sphere Grid) don't need to be raised, and will be covered in a separate video as Optional.
Luck is CRUCIAL for the Dark Aeons and Penance. You need an absolute minimum of 35 Luck for your main 3 characters. Luck takes the longest to raise, but it's nowhere near as bad as people think. This will be the focus of Episode 5 because it's so important, but you can actually raise Luck next very easily if you have either Tidus or Wakka's Celestial weapons.
The other stats that need to be considered are Evaision and Accuracy. The mechanics behind hitting enemies in Final Fantasy X are complicated, but basically the bottom line is that the high Luck that some of the Dark Aeons have means that depending on how your own Luck is, Accuracy counts for little and Evasion doesn't matter much either.
Accuracy matters versus Dark Sandy because if you're aiming to have lower to middling Luck (eg 35 or 85, or even 114) you'll need at LEAST 228 Accuracy to hit her with regular attacks, so you might as well get 255 Accuracy if that's the case. If you get 205 Luck or more Accuracy is literally pointless so you leave it alone entirely. It takes 46 Accuracy Spheres to max Accuracy on top of the existing Accuracy on the Standard Sphere Grid.
Evasion is good for evading Dark Ixion's counter attack, so it's a good idea to get your Luck + Evasion to be 290 total. For me in this playthrough I will be getting 114 Luck, so need I needed 176 Evasion, which takes 13 Evasion Spheres on top of the Evasion that exists on the Standard Sphere Grid.
I hope you found the video useful and informative. If so then please Like, Comment and Subscribe!
SUMMARY
For this set of videos, this series focuses on Stat-maxing using the Standard Sphere Grid and 9999HP. The best way to do this is to activate every existing node on the grid and then add the required number of extra stat nodes for each stat to get 255 Strength, Defence and Magic Defence and Accuracy with 114 Luck, 176 Evasion, 170+ Agility. 255 Magic is optional and not required.
Totals required for Standard Grid, no Clear Spheres, 114 Luck
20 Strength Spheres (can include 1 from blitz, 1 Yojimbo's Fayth, 3 Dodging lightning bolts)
25 Defence
27 Magic (do last, max Yuna, Anima Flares)
32 Magic Defence (had 64)
0 Agility for 170 (19 for 250)
46 Accuracy
13 Evasion (32 for 255)
24 Luck (113 or 114 Luck) and approx 168 Fortune Spheres for 7 characters

    Yeah man, the fastest method with Entrust still takes about 2 minutes per fight, with a fight in between too if you're using Victor. It should only be just over 1 minute per fight with the best method using Attack Reels. Check out my video from a few years ago - one of the first on my channel - which shows the fastest method with Wakka. The quality isn't great, but if you're up to Luck farming already it'll help before I can get round to uploading Episode 5!

    Yeah, it's all pretty much the same thing. I'd say do Luck first actually, like I said in the video; you need no Accuracy or Evasion for Earth Eater so might as well do Luck, then afterwards you'll easily hit both Hornet and Pteryx. Either way is fine.

    I definitely plan to max my characters stats to get them all godly and push 99999 damage against all enemies. Its just a hell of a grind, but very rewarding. My pet peeve is definitely blitzball to get wakkas celestial weapon and his sigil. Blitzball looks simple but I can never get the hang of it. One day tho. On my ps2 save I just made him his own with break damage limit. Only downside is not having it limits Ifrit to 9999 damage, given all celestial weapons are connected to an aeon, not having it limits them to 9999 damage as well.

    Yes, the problem with customised weapons is that the don't have the inate property thst Celestials have that ignores defence. Penance and the later Dark Aeons will only take 30-50k damage even with 255 Strength and BDL. If you want the most efficient way to grind Blitzball, there's a video in my FFX Playlist.

    There are a bunch of different methods; it's just timing and practice, but the Reels are ALWAYS the same so there's no randomness. You press the button one reel 'early' if that makes sense. Watch my timing carefully. I can't remember offhand but the two Reels that stop almost instantly, there's no timing there for the second one; if you get the first one you just press the button again for the second one then learn the timing for the third IIRC.

    Quick question: I've started a play through of FFX, going to do 100% completion and I'm going to take my time to get extremely OP very early on. Now the question, instead of doing the Steal/Use strat. with Kimahri and taking him down Yuna's grid, would it be better to take him to Lulu's so he can take out a wider range of enemies for much less MP? It would mean he can cast quite a lot before needing MP and still hit pretty much just as hard.

  • @DPhoenix237

    @DPhoenix237

    5 жыл бұрын

    That's definitely an option, but Lulu's grid has virtually no Agility and I'm not wild about having two slow characters myself. But it's definitely an option. If you're wanting to get Kimahri some OP black magic someone pointed out the other day that you can take Kimahri to Flare early instead. I had a look and it seems you'd go through Wakka's grid to get Dark Attack and Silence Attack, then use the level 2 Key Sphere from Spherimorph to break into Lulu's grid and head to Holy. As a quick sidenote, it you watch the episodes earlier in my Overpowered playthrough guide the MP isn't an issue because I recommend getting MP Stroll armour for Kimahri so he always has enough MP to cast Holy if that's the route that you go down. You could do the same with Flare.

  • @DPhoenix237

    @DPhoenix237

    With 114 Luck, you still need a lot of accuracy for her. I think it's 240 or something, I usually just go 255 Accuracy with 114 Luck. It takes about 15 minutes to get ALL the Accuracy Spheres because Hornet goes down in one Attack Reels. You'd probably be better off just using Wakka with Victor OD and two slow characters, make sure one has Initiative. Then just Attack Reels Hornet > Hit Sleep Sprout > repeat. I think I covered accuracy in episode 6, after Magic.

  • @DPhoenix237

    @DPhoenix237

    Жыл бұрын

    It's not quite as straightforward as that. Evasion + Luck more or less is, 290 total for those two lets in dodge everything in the game that is dodgeable. Luck and Accuracy on enemies is more complicated and depends on the enemy's luck. For beating all the Dark Aeons and Penance you want either 35 Luck (min possible, makes the battles much tougher), 85 Luck, 114 Luck or 230 (max possible, and not worth it). I cover this in Luck maxing episode iir .

    Yeah, you don't need any Accuracy after 230 Luck, which is the effective max. I covet Luck in Episode 5 IIRC. It takes far less time to get 114 Luck and just raise Accuracy though, which is the better way to go unless you're determined to do BHPL.
