Final Fantasy X Guide - How to be Overpowered! Part 12: Zanarkand, Yunalesca & The Airship

Hello all, and welcome to part 12 of my Final Fantasy X Overpowered guide!
***THIS WALKTHROUGH CONTAINS SPOILERS THROUGHOUT***
I've recently seen a lot of people playing the Final Fantasy X Remastered release on Xbox One, and there are many people who play it without knowing the best techniques for efficiently grinding the end-game and getting the Dark Aeons and Penance.
Not only that, but it's a very fun game to be overpowered in, which is something I love doing in games.
In this episode we start with some interesting story revelations and then take on Yunalesca and her myriad of annoying attacks, counters and forms.
Yunalesca is irritating and quite strong; she can be devastatingly difficult to defeat if you're unprepared, or attempting challenge playthroughs. Hopefully it you've been following my tips you'll have a powerful party by now and can take her down with minimal fuss.
First things first, as with every boss after Remiem Temple you can use Trio of 9999 and then use either Fire Gems with the Use command, or use multi-hitting Overdrives like Blitz Ace, Attack Reels or Drain Fury to beat her supremely quickly.
If you're not wanting to cheese your at through the bosses though, you'll need a few tactics. Yunalesca mainly causes problems by using Hellbiter to inflict Zombie on your characters and then using Curative magic to damage your Zombified characters afterwards. Rude!
You want to keep at least one character Zombified, but cure one or two characters at a time so that someone is always alive. If you have Zombie Ward for a quick character like Rikku or Tuna that can be a big help. Confuse Ward is useful too, because her later forms have a wicked attack called Mind Blast, which can Confuse all characters!
Her first form should go down quickly, but when you defeat the second form be mindful that it uses an attack called Mega Death that kills all characters except for Zombified characters, which is why you MUST leave at one character as a Zombie when you kill her second form.
Smash her third form with your most powerful attacks and try to overkill her with either a multi hitting Overdrive, or Bahamut's Mega Flare.
After this you get the Airship and can start capturing and the endgame grind! You can go straight onto Sin if you actually want the last few story bosses to be a challenge, but I'll not be bothering with that because I'm just going to straight into the capturing phase and get the Celestial weapons!
For this playthrough, I will be doing some videos of things to watch out for along the way. This focuses on 3 early-game grinds to get way ahead on some skills and have a blast wrecking everything in your path! It also involves a fair bit of Blitzball in Luca, but that bit is sort of optional. This playthrough will be a Standard Grid playthrough because it lets you use Break HP Limit more effectively if that's the route you choose to go down. The Expert Grid has its own advantages, but isn't good for BHPL enthusiasts.
The key points for me are:
Get Haste before leaving Besaid
Grind Sinspawns on the S.S.Liki
Win the Luca Blitzball game to get a Strength sphere
Win a Blitzball League and tournament for a Teleport Sphere and Return Spheres.
Teach Yuna the -ara spells
Get Kimahri Holy by Macalania
Get MP Stroll armours for certain characters.

I'm about to get here after playing the original ps2 version, I decided to avoid the whole blitzball part for now because.... I hate the game? I just cant find anything fun about it, but what I really wanted to say was that I thank you for the guide and thank for, as I just noticed, you reply to this videos even now, A WHOLE YEAR AFTER UPLOADING THEM So thank you, a lot, and stay safe and good in this difficult pandemic times c:

@@DPhoenix237 your on xbox right? Do you think we could talk in a party and talk me through the blitzball thing? My team has gotten quite powerful but i am having some issues getting super goalie and some of the special reels for wakka

Thanks to this guide although I missed some stuff in the beginning I absolutely destroyed Yunalesca. I just used overdrives but also did my sphere grid my own way. Wakka already hits for 9999 so I just use all my aeons overdrive and finished off with attack reels. Was actually easier than Seymour fight

You're most welcome! You can just make your way to Auron's grid however you like; usually I'd use a Return Sphere and Key Spheres to get as close as possible and then start at the back end of Auron's grid, as it has a lot of Strength +4 nodes.
I noticed you have a few skills and spells with other characters. What did you do to get steal, use, and mug with Tidus and what did you do with lulu? I've got her flare, and I'll go back for doublecast. Not sure what else to do after that

Well by this point you're easily strong enough to beat Chimaerageist so I'd either have used Return Spheres from that, or some other sort of sphere to move him to Rikku's grid after doing his own and Auron's. Lulu I just left...she's rubbish in the endgame.

@@DPhoenix237 one more question...i finished with wakka path and i wanna move through auron path. Did you use a level 3 sphere after he learned triple foul, of did you move him somewhere else on the path? Wanna get him the best amount of strength so he can hit harder

@@ManiacTechman I honestly can't remember; I think level 3 key sphere because I had loads from the Ronso boss battle.
I remember putting Reflect on my party during Yunelesca's fight, and whenever she would use curaga or regen on someone and would cast it on herself
Breezed through Yunalesca only to go down the wrong stairs and exit without the treasure chest. I'm looking forward to all the cutscenes again :-(

Oh no, that's annoying! You can go back immediately as long as you don't trigger the next Airship scene, I think.

Depends how far he's gone. If you leave the sanctuary and trigger the cutscene, I think it starts the endgame stuff and Dark Bahamut is there. Not 100% sure though, I'm always very careful to grab the Crest 1st time through. Better safe than sorry imho.
