** REGARDING THE SOUND ISSUES & Historical accuracy I'm aware of the audio issues present in this video I had issues with the recording due to the nature of how I decided to record this video. I've since figured out what was going wrong but seeing as it was recorded in one session I didn't want to record all that dialogue again. I've since adjusted my approach and how I will do it moving forward. I do appreciate the feedback though. Thanks for watching despite the audio hiccups. I've received a couple of comments about the potential misinformation about the dropping of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombs, there seemed to be some talks about negotiating a peace treaty , with some demands in place, America wanted a full surrender though. There is an article in the description you can check out. It is important to get out the right information when it comes to historical accuracy,.

When people talk about modern "strong female characters" I always site Yuna. She isn't physically strong, but mentally she's insanely strong. I absolutely love her. As for X-2 I love it as well because to me it's so realistic that the world immediately starts fighting each other and I love that Yuna sticks to her convictions and keeps doing what she finds right. Also I like that she gets Tidus back as it feels so earned, if anyone deserves happiness it's her.

Easily one of the best stories of any game ever, graphics nearly five years ahead of it's time and a leveling mechanic that's never been properly replicated since. If it's not the best game ever, it's certainly the best JRPG.

Lightening in a bottle is the perfect phrase for ffx. It was so much greater than the sum of its parts. For whatever reason, they just got the mood, tempo, story, art, music and characters perfect for one another. The game was far from perfect and yet it was perfect. I think the personal nature of the story with a fish out of water story worked so well. Now the stories feel sterile, corporately packaged, and over thought.

2:56:14 the reminder, everytime you started the game. That this probably didnt have a happy ending. Early in the game you know yuna is not going to make it. Then, you go through the entire game. Raging at the immutable fate you KNOW is ahead. And yet, you must push on. You dont get to the end by quitting. So you continue, having faith the journey will be worth it. And, it is, entirely. And then, our lovers open up to each other....making everything so much happier, and yet, so much more tragic. And so we push on. And then we get to that opening scene, and we realise, this isnt the end....theres hope. So we fight. And we tear down the gods in defiance........and we change Fate. My personal journey through this game was wonderilly choreographed by the creators. The Journey through the game mirrors yuna and tidus.

Something I never really thought about was that Bahamut was Braska's first Aeon, so in a strange way an aspect of Yuna's father was watching over the boy she'd eventually meet and who would help her and the others destroy Sin for good, it's interesting how that just fell into place like that

Considering the fayth decided to use Jecht and Tidus to kill Sin, Yu Yevon, and end their own dream, I feel it's far more likely that Bahamut/the fayth decided to use Braska and his daughter for their own ends, rather than an aspect of Braska following Yuna. Although, with the dead becoming a part of the fayth after death, it can be thought that Braska was 'following' her the entire journey, since he's a part of the fayth collective.

Its not only well written, its well performed and believable. It really creates a feeling you're here in this city with its own people and history. I got FFX for christmas with my ps2 in 2001. It was the only console i ever had given to me. I remember playing on my parents sega and n64, and dude even now the fact FFX a game from 2001 still holds up. This may have been the biggest graphical jump in gaming history, and i dont think its even close. Ff9 was the game that helped shape you, this is the game for me. I still relate to tidus.

It amazes how well graphically it still holds up to this day. I remember thinking back in the day how big of a jump in graphics it was, it blew my mind,. especially those FMV's. Gameplay wise it's still really solid too. To this day I still haven't seen a battle system that focuses so heavily on understanding how each character plays and actively needing to change them out like Final Fantasy X does. It really was ahead of it's time.

Im one of those guys who played this game when it first came out. I had no clue X-2 would have even been a thing. Man this game had me messed up back then. Still to this day, decades later, that scene where Yuna is on the dock whistling....man it still hits me. Perhaps even more now since Ive done my own whistling so to speak. Its a very special story, perhaps even the best SE has made. There have been grander stories, stories with more heroism, and even stories with more badass moments. Yet, this one has a direct line to your emotions. I agree with Tidus and Yuna being the best love interest duo. I love Squall and Rinoa, but its like holding a candle to the sun comparing the two.

I think Anima is a perfect counter/compliment to Seymour’s own trend of duality. He’s half man/half Guado. In this case, the summoner is male, the Fayth/FA is female. Her design (as I see it) is masculine up top, feminine in the destruction world. That is added to by the time that the masculine bit is forcibly restrained (a traditionally female problem), while the female bit is allowed to unleash her rage (a traditionally masculine trait). The top is in pain, the bottom causes pain (with the exception of the special move). The creature itself is monstrous, while the arms holding it back are more human. The top has eyes to see all, the bottom has no eyes. It looks to be based on a zombie, which goes along with the unsent of Spira being undying, neither living nor dead. The aeon is very dark, while the Fayth is very bright. In her scene before obtaining her, she clearly regrets the destruction she’s caused, yet her whole theme is destruction. Even just this one OPTIONAL aeon/fayth is such a tragic character. That’s one of the many reasons I love this game even after 20 years.

3:51:48 FFX-2 isn't all bad in relation to how it affects FFX's ending. It's story can actually reinforce FFX in a beautifully bittersweet way depending on how you look at it, as well as which ending of X-2 we are actually talking about. For instance, I head-canon that the true ending to FFX-2 is the game's "Normal" ending. It's (ironically) perferct for its own story! Yuna doesn't ask for Tidus back. She moves on--saying, "it's better this way"--and somehow finds her own happiness in the Eternal Calm. And as a result, all of that 2.5 (Novella)/Will (Audio-drama) bullshit--which I consider to be the TRUE disservice to FFX by turning it into a fanfiction-level mess of weird, gross, and convoluted sludge--will never take place! Besides, I choose to see things this way because, to me, the Normal ending is the most natural ending for Yuna's journey. Everything in the story of X-2 is thematically telling her to move forward--to push past the powerful yet fleeting love she had for Tidus: -- Brother points out that he likes the version of Yuna that "looks forward" the best. -- Issaru abandons his desire to fulfill his dashed dream of pilgramaging to Zanarkand, and instead takes up leadership within New Yevon. -- Wakka reconciles with unresolved issues between himself and Chappu--the past--and he moves forward into parenthood with Lulu--the future--which their son is LITERALLY named after (Vidina means 'future' in Al bhed). -- Kimahri accepts his new role as Ronso Elder. Even going so far as to deny himself a full horn for his own statue, saying, "Kimahri think looking at road ahead better than looking back on things lost... Kimahri look at future." -- Paine overcomes her longing over the lost friendships she had with her Crimson Squad crew, and accepts the Gullwings as her new friends. -- Macalania Woods--the place Yuna and Tidus share their first kiss--is literally fading away. Symbolically representing the fading of her dream to be with him. -- Hell, the main antagonist is a rage-ghost from a bygone era that needs to be put to rest! How much more obvious can the arc of Yuna's hero's journey be at that point?! From the look of it, X-2 is all about letting go of the past and finding happiness by moving forward. But no, Yuna doesn't get to move on in the "Perfect" ending. She gets pampered and coddled with Tidus as a reward. A reward that she admittedly does deserve, yes. But one that I believe she does not need in order to truly be happy. I believe Yuna is stronger than that. With that belief, I stand by my statement that the Normal ending of FFX-2 is perfect for its own story. It reinforces the themes of its predecessor--which include transience, loss, and grieving--by offering Yuna a chance to mourn over and accept her loss in order to find a poignant and mature happiness beyond it. In doing so, I think that FFX-2 perfectly compliments FFX through its own themes of acceptance and reconciliation with the past. So yeah. So long as we're looking at the Normal ending of X-2, its actually not all bad.

It's not FFX 2 I have a problem with persay I'll get into it in a FFX 2 Retrospective some day it's what's considered canon now. For the ending. I like to think Tidus never came back and his death actually meaned something. Yuna was able to move on and find happiness without him the book and audio drama are what destroys the ending imo. And square has confirmed both are canon. Moving forward I don't see how a sequel can happen especially with what was layed out in the.audio drama

This was the first RPG and final fantasy game I ever played. I remember having a hard time against Evrae and Yunalesca because I spent more time using summons than actually using my party. Seymour Flux also gave me some trouble, but my characters did enough damage and I had good enough skills to win. Evrae is STILL one of my most HATED bosses because of what I had to endure during my very first playthrough back in 2003/2004. The first time I had actually beaten, after NUMEROUS attempts and at least 10 hours of level grinding, my game froze during the cutscene after his defeat. I also remember PERFECTLY how to do the Djose, Macalania, and Bevelle temples. I do know the first two really damn well, but I often misremember a step (i.e. I try putting the glyph sphere on the wall with the glyph and then it rejects me). I always make sure to get the celestial weapons for rikku, wakka, yuna, and auron. I don't bother with the other three because the minigames tied to them would break me (looking at you LIGHTNING BOLTS).

I truly enjoyed the video. That had to be a lot of work and you did a great job. One thing I feel I need to bring up is the comment that Japan had surrendered prior to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I may have misunderstood your comment and if I did just disregard. But my understanding after some research is that Hiroshima was bombed, and the US sent a communication to Emperor Hirohito explaining what had been done and asked for Japan’s surrender. Hirohito did not believe that such a weapon existed and disregarded reports of the devastation. Since the Emperor refused surrender, the second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Japan’s surrender came after. That’s my understanding. Again if I misunderstood your comment disregard, and if you have different info please share. Great video. Thanks again.

Basically it's because they were unable to. Yu Yevon was a summoner of Zanarkand. Dream Zanarkand along with Sin was a summon continuously being summoned by Yu Yevon. The Fayth remain summoned until they are defeated or the summoner dismisses them. Due to Yu Yevon finding a way to survive by summoning pure flies around him and using the outer layer of Sin as a shield, no one was able to defeat Yu Yevon permanently. This was partly due to Yu Yevon once the shield was destroyed killing the summoner after the shield was destroyed by possessing the Final Aeon and making it the next Sin by conjuring yet another outer shell around it. As for Dream Zanarkand Yu Yevon was continuously summoning Dream Zanarkand by continuously keeping all of the citizens of Zanarkand continuous dreaming or in a summoned state. The Fayth of the different summons were able to come and go in dream Zanarkand as they pleased but they were unable to stop the summoning until the Summoner continuously summoning Dream Zanarkand was defeated for good. Hope this kinda helps, it's not perfect in execution but a fun idea nonetheless imo. :)

I think Anima is just another consequence of the games theme, that truth and peace can only be achieved with the people you love. We see it over and over, Yunas refusal to sacrifice one of her friends for the final aeon, allows them to defeat sin together. Chappu says having your girl be safe is better, but goes off alone and ends up dead on a beach, protecting no one. Seymours mother seems aware that she made a mistake, that Seymours loneliness and feeling of never belonging was only made worse by her sacrifice. Anima simply gave him the tools to destroy, and thus isolate himself even further.

There were talks of negotiating a peace treaty and one of those negotiations included keeping their emperor in place and keeping the Asian territories they conquered. The US wanted a complete surrender of their military which according to the Manhattan project Internet page was the deciding factor for dropping the bombs.

He was NOT transported 1000 years into the future. He was transported from Dream Zanarkand into the reality of Spira. Dream Zanarkand was summoned by Yu Yevon 1000 years ago. 983 years after Dream Zanarkand was created, Tidus was born. 17 years later (which is his age, presently), marked the 1000th year of Dream Zanarkand's existence.

I have never seen statues in the temples of Yunalesca, unless they are missable? Only Gandof, Ohalland, Yocun and Braska are visible. That should be a red flag something isn’t right LOL

@@GamingWithSpoons I suppose that the Maesters would not bring up the fact she isn’t technically gone, especially no one, other than the four summoners and Yuna, even made it to Zanarkand in the first place. Only Yuna survived to tell the tale, but Bevelle didn’t expect her to.

@@GamingWithSpoons I agree. I think the lore says it was 400 years between Yunalesca and Zaon defeating Yu Yevon until Gandof did it in the Calm Lands. Also, a Redditor commented that there could have been other summoners that made the pilgrimage to Zanarkand, but was killed by Yunalesca for not having the bond needed for the Final Aeon. It could certainly track to keep her secret of being Unsent AND there being no end to Sin.

You all bring up good points but I just wanted to say that there are actually statues of Yunalesca and Lord Zaon in the temples. They are not along the ground with the other summoners but built into the architecture near the ceilings. I don't know if you can see them during gameplay walking around, but in the cutscene when Tidus first enters the temple in Besaid you can see them. They are in a similar pose to how they appear when you look at the map item.

I believe there were reports of them planning on surrendering or talks of it happening. But it didn't happen until the bombing dropped. I think what I was trying to get at was saying was it truly necessary to drop the bombs or would the have surrendered regardless. Either way I appreciate the correction it is always important to make sure history is represented right. Thank you

@GamingWithSpoons It is debated whether Japan may have surrendered without the bombs after the Soviet invasion of Manchuria. Given that the bomb was dropped beforehand and they didn't surrender until both happened its a bit of a stretch to place to call the bomb unnecessary. Essentially given they had lost about 2.5 million soldiers taking Berlin and estimates for Japan were higher than that. Its wasn't kind to nuke 250k people but when you think the alternative is to lose 5 million of your and your allies men the decision makes more sense.

You keep saying this is your story. But it's story too. Really enjoying the video, but at the half way point I had to stop to strongly disagree with your take on the voice acting. You are describing intent, not the product. I completely get the laughing seen. I bought this game the first week it came out, and I got the laughing scene then. It was still poorly acted. And this isn't a knock against the voice actors. Really my issue for the whole game is how the takes used and how it was edited together. The problem was the directing and the editor. So often in the game the delivery for various actors are stilted. There is barely a pause before the next actor gives their line. As a whole too often the dialogue sounds stilted and wooden. You erroneously think people complain because of how cringe worthy some of it come across. Most of us I think know that is the intent. But that does not mean the product conveys that well every time. I do want to say the laughing scene gets more flack than it deserves. The scene outside Jose temple is far worse. So much of that dialogue needed to be re-recorded and they really needed to hire a new editor. I also think Titus's actor gives some really good delivery in the emotional scenes. I believed him when he found out Yuna would die. Hearing Yuna cry when she couldn't abandon her pilgrimage always brings me close to tears (and I'm sorry to say most of her line delivery is terrible all throughout). But I do give consideration to the fact that voice acting at this scale was still new in games at this time. I doubt square had the people in place with the experience needed and didn't realize how the finally product would turn out. The game was still successful, but the voice acting is the biggest thing that turns me away from the game. Everything else in this game is really good. I might even rank it #2 in the series with a few improvements. I don't say all this to bad mouth the game, or your video which I am really enjoying. Only to set the record straight. I haven't taken an official survey of what people mean about voice acting problems, but I suspect more people think along what I have described than it is people not getting the intent of the dialogue.

I think it it could be chopped up to bad voice direction. But I still don't think it's as bad as people make.it out to to be. I've heard some games that are way worse than X. I personally do not think it's that bad. I'll agree to disagree though:)

What's irritating about people criticizing the voice acting is that they're so immature, they don't see FFX as a piece of video game history. I'd say for the first crack at having voiced characters, I'd say they did a bang up job. Remember; only the cool kids these days criticize without having any common sense to begin with.

Thank you. It's really not that bad and this playthrough I noticed that. It never bugged me to begin with but I went into playing it with the intent of the voice acting being something that was criticized. This came at a time too when voice acting wasn't all that common it was just becoming common. I think people forget before this there weren't many games that tried before this. I think people forget how bad Resident Evil and The Legend of Dragoon were when it came to voice acting.
