Focus increases Vivi's Magic stat. Vivi can stack the effect, but once the Magic stat reaches 99, it will not increase further. The effect lasts for the entire battle, even if KO'd.
The formula for Focus is:
Magic * 1.25
In my case Vivi has 90, so 90 * 1.25 = 112.5 (capped at 99).
If your level and/or magic are way lower you can take advantage of the following Magical Damage Multipliers:
⋅ Using ability Reflect x2 [Damage * 2]
⋅ Target is weak to the element of your Spell [Damage * 1.5]
⋅ You are wearing an Elem-Atk raising item [Damage * 1.5]
⋅ Your entire party is under Reflect and you cast a spell on all party members [Damage * 4]
Combining Reflect x2 with the entire party under Reflect when using Demi is very interesting because Vivi would be dealing 240% of Target Max HP (30 * 8). Demi does NOT work on bosses.
Being in Trance raises the character's attributes, and they are healed of all status ailments (but do not become immune to them).
If you want the best stats for Vivi you need him at lvl 1 and you need to use this equipment while leveling up to get the best bonuses:
Weapon: 98 Cypress Pile or Flame Staff or High Mage Staff or Ice Staff or Lightning Staff or Mace of Zeus or Mage Staff or Oak Staff or Octagon Rod
Head: 98 Holy Miter
Arms: 98 Magic Armlet
Body: 23 Black Robe or Magician Robe, 43 Dark Gear, 32 Robe of Lords
Addon: 98 Ribbon
After leveling him 98 levels you will get these stats without having anything equiped:
50 Spirit, 83 Magic, 54 Strength, 26 Speed

lol I read it as "vivi is ozma" initially, and I guess considering the number of doomsday that made sense haha
Doomsday is easily my favourite spell in this game; if all characters wear Shadow-absorbing equipment then it is basically a brutally powerful multi-target attack spell, combined with a brutally strong multi-target HP recovery spell.

This is my favorite final fantasy. Kids nowadays wouldn't have the attention span to get through this game

I don’t think I do anymore either. The random battles took soooo long to get through. If it wasn’t for that, I’d play this right now and not quit on disc 2 like I normally do when I replay it.
I wanna make my freya op and have no idea what gear to level her with. Any tips? Haha. I know how to do spirit but i want her almost stat maxed

To get the best stats you should do a lvl 1 run and then use this calculator: letao.is-a-geek.net/ff9stats/calculator.html That is what i do when i wanna max out the characters :)

just kill 100 dragons and spam dragon crest. i always use her as my sacrifice.

Trance vivi dose more damage per turn than any character in the game.

@@dantevic I get it's not the most convient move, but, Steiner with 'Charge!' has him beat doesn't he? Or am I forgetting something?

@@dantevic Good question. HonestIy no idea. But I am aware that if you do the other 3 characters actions before they 'charge!'.... so not aure how that when as you dempnstrate... everythong is usuaIIy dead.

@@yeahsureimdownforthat1698 I will have to try it whenever i replay ff9 in the future. I will admit I never used that move. I mostly liked to spam shock or the blk sword with blizzard as I loved how it looked.

Good stuff. Doomsday is such a crap spell, though. It's literally just Meteor but hits everyone, which is a throwback to FF6. Well, if they wanted to do a throwback to the "unfocused" attacks that hit all targets, as in FF6, then they shoulda brought back the best one--Meltdown. Seriously, I absolutely hate Doomsday and don't even bother to learn it on repeat playthroughs. Idc if it's the strongest, it's the principle of the matter.

Doomsday spell is not crap. It is actually one of the best spell. Equip your party with Shadow Absorber equipment, instead of hitting all targets, your party it will be heal and enemy will be damage. Plus and bonus, if you have Vivi and Steiner in your party, use Doomsday Sword instead in Sword Magic, so Steiner will only damages your enemy. If Vivi learns a new magic, Steiner can use it too.

@@SHAZETSHOWBIZ I believe that the absorption healing from Doomsday is actually better than the Curaga spell.
