When I played this back on the original PlayStation, I summoned ARK against Trance Kuja, and the Summon and Boss music Synched so Perfectly. It's a Core Memory.

As a kid at 10 this was a battle and amazing game right up there with oot for me classics and nostalgia

This is the most beautiful rendition of the Holy magic IMO.

Auto-Haste + Auto-Regen easily breaks the game. Just do anything with a long animation and you're back to full health by the time it's done.

How in the world did you get auto haste!? I couldn't evwn get curaga on Garnet until the final dungeon!!

I remember getting to this guy no prob then getting absolutely destroyed. quit the game for a year then finally came back and ground out like 20 levels and beat him

good god i still remember being absolutely stunned seeing all those models fully rendered. Its one thing playing on an emulator (and even then you cant fully get rid off of all that jank and wank), but i played this in 2008-2009 on a CRT TV, when i was 6. anyone who lpayed any ps1 games on this setup knows how unreadable a lot of shit was. For instance, i never knew Amarant actually has a face, i just thought his head is a scarlet bush attached to a body. I also thought that Freya was a guy and her helmet is a party hat. And thats just a few of the most notable examples,i could tell you how my 6 year old saw every single npc and enemy as something entirely else. So seeing them in full hd was just fucking insane.

Freya is fucking strong. I remembered why i'm a fan of her

Yep, quote is from Star Wars Episode 1 , The Phantom Menace ,and Master Yoda uses to describe how a Jedi could turn into the Darkside of the force. Basically fearing death, and having no control of your emotions, bringing hate, anger, anxiety for power and taking control of everything that sorrounds you it is. People fear what they cannot control or stop.

Beatrix still my favorite. She should have been a permanent playable character.

If you own FF9 on steam I'd strongly suggest trying out the mod "Alternate Fantasy" then.

As I’m watching this, immediate instinct was well this first party is weird af, and I definitely know there’s a 2nd fight with the other 4 party members coming next. Then I saw auto haste cast on everyone and was like oh nvm he’s totally fine no matter what party combos he uses lol.

Pretty good graphics for a ps1 game, huh? When I finish ff xii for the millionth time I'll be playing this one

RPG’s FF7 Wild Arms 1 Chrono Trigger You can return to these games as many times as you want and experience like it’s the first time.

Despite FF9 having kiddie graphics it has the most intense deep backstory you can ever think of. Like this is some philosophical lovecraftian geiger level shit. Oh and if you think Necron was random look up Dark Gaia from Terragnima.

Necron isn’t _random,_ he just appears _flat out of nowhere._ At least, if the summary I heard from joshscorcher’s “Top Ten Overshadowed Bosses” list is true. It would’ve been a simple fix, if you ask me. Given Kuja’s… artificiality, his intense emotions while casting “Ultima” could’ve been strong enough to separate from him and take physical form. No change in appearance or boss fight, but its dialogue before the fight would be more fragmented, and its name would be more indicative of what said dialogue conveys: “Nihilism”.

Watched a couple of FFIX videos tonight, and I'm wondering, am i the only maxing out Thievery with Zidane for kax damage at 8 MP a pop? Seems like everyone just uses Attack or Steal with him..,

recently completed this game. It's definitely better than OG FF7 in story pacing and direction. OG FF7's story pacing outside of midgar is a little awkward flowing but still good overall. FF9 picks up after Garnet changes her name. The trio bosses at the end wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Kuja kept spamming flare star; however the animation of it gave my party members enough time to recover their health via auto regen. As for Necron, he has an attack that brings your character to a 1 HP, ending up killing three of my party members. Defeated him with just Zidane's attacks. It was totally an "oh my god it's about to be game over" type of fight. Lol great game.

ok look at 12:49 Why do the sounds in the remaster/newer versions are all messed up? I always wondered this because I know as a kid thats not what i heard, and even in 4k uprezzed videos of summon compilations, the sounds are all wonky and some of them suck. Meanwhile, I'm still on disk 1 in Alexandria trying to complete 1000 jump ropes on Vivi for the key item and 100% completion.

I still say this should of been one on one Zidane vs Kuja trance vs trance will vs will.

This game teaches a major lesson

Everyone loves to bring up Kuja and, to a lesser extent, Necron here, but I feel that I have to give some love to this version of Deathguise. It gives off so much menace with this appearance.

Best of the Final Fantasy series.

I prefer Kuja as a character cuz Kefka lacks depth. Basically, Sephiroth has story but lacks personality, Kefka has personality but lacks story, and Kuja has both story and personality.

@@00Kuja00 the fact that the final boss comes from absolutely nowhere. Most people would assume that kuja would be the final boss but right after you beat him the game just tosses this random dude who was never mentioned once before this fight.

@@tahamohammad8842 I disagree. To sum it up. Necron (The Darkness of Eternity), is the fear of death/despair incarnate. So it's the whole theme of the game. So he/it is very relevant since you can only beat him storywise when Kuja has a change of heart.

@@00Kuja00 thematically it makes sense but in literal story terms it doesn’t. I figured with him being named necron that would be some sort of god of death so I figured that he was placed there for thematic reasons. Doesn’t change the fact that in terms of story he just shows up. As an entity he was never brought a single time. I don’t think a single NPC even mentioned his existence, kind of like zeromous from FF4 who also shows up after beating the supposed real villan.

While Necrom was an "odd" final boss, his theme is a banger 100/100

It's both. Kuja died, but Zidane still managed to bring him to the light in his final minutes.

Who even was Necron? Kuja was always the final boss and battle, and then we get gifted with a massive angel. whatever..... i guess.... easy fight though. survive grand cross and win.

These final battles were painfully easy. Few normal attacks from Zidane, Steiner, Amarant, or even Freya. Easy.

If you ask me, Necron shouldn’t have been a separate god entity from Kuja. It should’ve been an embodiment of Kuja’s strong emotions, finally able to take form after Kuja wiped out the main heroes with “Ultima”. No change in appearance or boss fight… but with more fragmented dialogue when it first appears, and a name indicating the only coherent point of that dialogue: “Nihilism”.

I like to think Necron is Kefka reborn after his death in FF6. They share the same philosophies after all. When Kefka died he went from being god of magic to the god of death.

Wait a minute in the remastered version you get to choose your team for the final fight against death? Lame, in the OG PSX version, you had to fight death with the party members that sat out the fight with Kuja, way more compelling IMO, it makes sure you actually raised every character and didn’t just run one party of 4 all the time.
