Just because a game is not turn-based doesn't mean its not fun ( both styles of games are fun ) . Some people like ff13 combat , some like ff15 combat , some like ff7 remake and rebirth combat and some like ff16 combat and etc .

@@spiderhulk26 For a lot of turnbased fans, it means exactly that. Besides: This whole Square turnbased discussion is not about turnbased alone. It's about turnbased combined with a dark, adultish cinematic style. And games like Octopath, DQ, bravely default and stuff didn't fit that at all. Persona is too anime as well. Baldurs gate 3 was the only game in a long time. I've heard tho that DQ12 will become more adultish. Would be cool.

This game dropped my jaw during the presentation. My guess is that the party consists of varying ages. Either the redhead lost someone in the past which is shown at some point in the game, or it’s one of the main characters that dies during the story. Would be interesting if said story actually does capture an entire year for those characters.

Prabobly most of them are 32 and is going 33, at some point within the game. Like characters will either die through battle with certain bosses and some will die due to the curse, basically dying during their birthdays.

​@@Snzn18 agreed, I think they implied that each expedition consists of those who'd die anyway in a year due to the number, hence they'd willingly pave the way for future expedition to inch ever closer to killing the Paintress

I think there will be multiple endings, some of which would need more than one playthrough to unlock. This way, the devs can keep the experience fresh while also not needing to make a vast world, which would be difficult considering they are a small team

This looks so good. Honestly, this may be the first time I’m hyped for cutting edge graphics and visuals in a while.

Easily my new most anticipated game

This is the comment I was looking for. that timing of the attacks immediately reminded me of Legend of Dragoon!

Honestly this is all very good, but I think people get too mired into the turn based vs. action debate. When devs have been all the time just thinking, even back in the 90s, that what they wanted was more tools, and to refine battle systems so that you feel like you're actually fighting with your party, that is one strong thing I've always heard said over the years. The battle system is just how they express that relationship the player has with the party, both being valid.

This game was the surprise of the Summer Game Fest for me.

I'm really excited for this game. As a fan of action turnbased RPG's this is right up my ally. The story sounds really interesting and compelling as well.

This game captured my full attention since its reveal at the SGF Everything looks phenomenal, especially the soundtracks. On their youtube channel they uploaded 3 tracks + the edited version of the one used for the trailer.

I wishlisted this the moment I saw that trailer. It's stunning! Turn-based combat needs to see a comeback

i knew nothing about this game and dont really play games of this type, but the reveal trailer soundtrack was so good that I had to add it to my wishlist to keep an eye on it.

I can’t wait for this. Us JRPG fans haven’t had a game like this in eons.

Yesssssir. This was the most hyped game at the showcase for me.

Maelle seems to be based on the recent SaGa games where the fencers have stances which change how they counter and give effects to their counter. She performed a Gradient Counter due to the stance she was in, it seems like she has different counters and she’s a counter based character which matches her weapon being a rapier, if this is true then she is definetly a reference to SaGa: Scarlet Grace’s fencers.

I've ALWAYS wanted a hyper realistic turn-based game, those old cutscenes watching characters do cool ass moves is always something I've wanted to see with updated graphics. Like imagine the Knights of the Round summon from FF7 but in Unreal Engine 5. This to me, is a dream come true I honestly hope they do it right because I'm most certainly looking forward to it. I've already wishlisted on my PS5 and on Steam😂

This game has high potential for GotY awards if the all the primary elements come together. If the gameplay, graphics and story are all top notch as they appear this will be a high contender for me and I usually prefer action combat games

Didn’t even notice the turn tracker on the side. Love this feature. Another layer of strategy in fights. I’m guessing some attacks might be faster/slower and it’ll cause you to lose or gain more turns. Or like you said, delay enemies turns. Very interesting

JRPG's that have a turn gauge are always good, Final Fantasy X, Mega Man X Command Mission and Legend of Heroes Trails series just to name a few.

I might be old school but I miss turn base I which final fantasy would go back to this form

If you guys check out the trailer again around the 1:26 mark at the top of my head there is a white hooded creature with a staff in the battle party.

This is definitely a Day One for me. This game would have to be extremely successful to convince certain publishers that turn-based combat still has merit. The biggest hurdle it has right now is being a new IP from a relatively unknown studio.

@@spiderhulk26 I was referring specifically to Final Fantasy. Their argument was that the realistic character models don't work for a turn-based combat system. Of course, they've also been obsessed with trying to recreate Advent Children's fight scenes in a mainline entry. Not that I have a problem with the combat in Rebirth. I actually liked it quite a bit. I just also miss turn-based Final Fantasy

My biggest hope for this game is that it's not an on rails corridor like ff13. I don't need a massive open world, but give me actual places to explore with things to do in those places (looking at you ff16).

Everyone immediately notices Ben Starr, but not seeing as much notice for Jennifer English voicing the redhead, she really stole it for me. Glad to see her getting another potentially huge role after Baldur's Gate 3, and getting 2 fantastic VAs gives me high hopes for the rest of the voiceover.

Fan Theory: Red haired girl gripping the white cloth from someone on the team who disappeared. It may be called expedition 33 but that doesnt meant every person on the team is 33 years of age. What if someone lied about their age just to join? Red haired girl could be 32 or 31 years old herself. I like the concept. Can't wait to see more.

I wouldn't be surprised if midway through the game all of the age 32 party members die and the red haired woman (whom was confirmed to be younger than 32) leads a different party for the remainder of the game.

Actually this team were members of the previous Eidos Square Enix Montreal team which they let go. And this game are the remnants of the western developed Final Fantasy they had pitched.

Speaking on ff8, once I found out about squalls trigger I was absolutely convinced it was like that for everyone so I did it for everyone lol not I can’t break that habit and do it for any other game like this lol

I wonder if each character will be tied to a job or if it will be more fluid and can switch jobs (which I hope is the case)

I never played persona yet (sadly), but this game gave me like western Persona vibes and im all about it lol.

Former Devs of Ubisoft, when they left to start a new company to making this game shows their creative directions from the same common ubisoft games.

I thought i have it figured it out. everyone above 33 is dead. now, everyone who is 33 has 1 year to stop the paintress to change the number 33 to 32 because when it happens those of age 33 die. Also, in the expedition, the age isn't a restriction or mandatory, or else the woman in the begging wont die in the city, also the red girl from the party, shes clearly way younger. This is what I got from the trailer and yes, there may be some hidden mystery and so but from this video, this is how I see things.

If I understand the premise correctly, the paintress won't exactly wipe out humanity completely - people who are 33yo when she paints "34" will be 34yo when she paints "33", and thus not be automatically killed, right? Still, the battle system seems pretty cool.

I thought the same at 1st but maybe anyone older than the age that’s reflected actually perishes. So. 34, 35, 36, etc. So when it’s their turn to hit the age that skips the number they still die possibly. Hopefully they better explain it down the line so there isn’t that loophole (unless that an important plot that plays into the story).

No one will get skip since since during the time that the 34 is up. People that went 34 years old got auto death on their birth days So when the 34 went down to 33. All people at the age of 33 also got auto death. So their is no window that you will get skip "unless" their days that the death age count was turned off. Any potential scenario where one will be skipped is that when did the paintreds start and what number she started with. Because if she started with like 40, then I guess people on range of 41 and above got skipped

It depends how the mechanic works, if it was on a set date every year then no one would skip, ie; everyone born in 2000 would be 30 at the end of 2030, so if jan 1st 12 am 2031 she wrote 30 everyone born in the year 2000 would die without missing a single person.

This looks like a cross between FF and Dishonored. I’ll pay the full amount now please!

I kinda hope the art style "tricks" some people into trying a turn-based game. A lot of people simply won't touch a game because it's anime-style.

@@TheWorstPartyMember My point is it worth both ways, you can't deny that the anime art also attracts people the same way as some people stay away from it cause it looks anime. Also I feel like the "most" people who stay away from games that looks anime don't play "jrpgs' in general. Since Jrpg by default has "anime like aesthetics", and the non anime lookings ones are like but a few. (Like let's name the top JRPG titles, FF, persona, trails, tales, xeno series, DQ, Chrono trigger. etc. etc. Like those are anime styled games. I don't think its the "anime aesthetic" that is mainly keeping people away from turn base JRPGs. Case you can put "Anime aesthetic in a Zelda game "like BOTW"{ and people still play it.Most People plays pokemon and that is unapologetically "anime art style" MOst people that "don't play" Turn base game mostly is due to the fact that it is turn base and not an action adventure game
