I love this series! I never played the original FF7, so many of these story beats are new to me. (Excluding Aerith's fate, but you made that hurt in a whole new way! Bravo!) And I can see why so many people have such an attachment to it. While it is a tad convoluted, it's still awesome. I would love to hear the rendition of Tifa's Theme that plays during the Mount Nibel flashback (6:40) on its own. That would also be awesome.

To take it a step further, the voice we know now was Zack all along, and Zack was the voice trying to get Cloud to ignore the Hojo/Mako reprogramming when they remade him into a Sephiroth clone. So in his new flashback to Nibelheim he became Cloud 1st Class Soldier (aka Cloud's image of Zack) admonishing Ramirez (aka Cloud's image of his own failure to honor Tifa's promise) which is why he ended up giving Sephiroth the Black Materia and almost killing Aeris, he can't yet come to grips with Cloud Strife being 'enough' and keeps pretending to be Zack until it gets him in that mental coma that Tifa breaks him out of.

The entire reason for this story is Cloud loves Tifa and is so incredibly hard on himself to be the man HE believes she deserves. He only stumbles across her in Midgar by MISTAKE. She is the one who makes sure they stay together once that happens. Cloud couldn't face her when he failed to keep his promise - to join Soldier. Which is why he lied. That lie grew - of course he was at reactor, he saw the town burn, he saw everyone die. Tifa is brave. Tifa climbed the mountain by herself as a child to confront death. Cloud followed because his dedication to her was bigger than his fears -he followed even when her friends chickened out. She was badly injured physically - Cloud was destroyed psychologically by his naive adolescent frustration at his inadequacy in being unable to protect the woman he is infatuated with. It is highly implied Cloud is a very serious and introspective child where such mature disposition and could internalize something so painfully is not remotely, in my opinion, fantastic. Cloud suffered the permanent consequences and it only inspired him to commit to Tifa on the water tower that 1) He would join Soldier (aka become provably powerful), and 2) we would always protect her. He failed at #1 and therefore could never face her again as far as he was concerned. - Tifa is brave. Sephiroth burned down her town and killed her father. She confronts him head on and is almost mortally wounded. Cloud was there. He watched his town burn, his mother die. Worse, he once again had a front row seat as he failed to protect the woman of his dreams. Dressed as a weak Shinra guard ... A guard that was the very first enemy you slaughtered thoughtlessly on your quest in disc 1. We know what happens from here. But it happens from two perspectives; 1) stricken with absolute grief at the loss of the two most important women in his life Cloud snapped - killed Sephiroth (his hero) in a rage and then was taken prisoner to Hojo's mako experiment for 5 years (basically psychological and physical torture and isolation heaped on top of his already extremely exiled personality typed). Its no small wonder he pretends to be Zack when he is blindsided by running into the woman he loves and he feels HE betrayed and is not worthy of. His buddy Zach was worthy of Tifa... Not Cloud. All the trauma on top of this is what makes this become a "lived in" reality for Cloud. This is why Cloud falls in love with both Tifa and Aeris at the beginning. Because Cloud has permission from Cloud (his psyche) to be in love with Aeris. Cloud is not worthy of Tifa per Cloud's view of himself. The irony is he is pretending to be Zack all this time. Aeris actually used to be lovers with the real Zack Both women are written so it is implied they have the emotional intelligence to know there's is something amiss throughout the early chapters. - And then we have 2) (What Tifa sees and what actually happened) Tifa, bleeding on floor - the boy who has never failed to follow her at her worst. Who has suffered incredible consequences for her stupid (brave) decisions... Was there. He fought, was mortally wounded, then KILLED the most powerful Soldier in the world. She was saved from a horrible fate because of Cloud's heroism. Its actually totally understandable why she isn't very sure about Cloud's role in the situation originally; the only time they interacted is while she is bleeding out on the ground. - The extreme poignancy of this scene, this romance, these two characters, and one of the biggest factors of this story; is that our protagonist is too weak to defeat this demon within himself. Tifa the brave isn't too weak to defeat it. There is something incredibly intimate about this character, rendered in cheesey polygons, fights desperately to save her friend, the boy who has always been there to protect her and who has only ever punished himself in return (Cloud is entirely selfless towards her - it's not a toxic transactional "nice guy trope"), the man who she realizes she loves, from himself and his own demons as he and the antagonist do their damnedest to consume him. She realizes her selfishness - this is why she abandons the party to die by his side drooling in a wheelchair under the meteor (do we realize this imagery is very realistic for good reason?). In these two incredibly lonely, incredibly resilient, and incredibly brave characters, quite literally, bearing their souls to eachother, seeking honesty in who they are to eachother, to themselves, "were we even friends?", "Am I even real?"..... Tifa is the only person who could unlock this door for Cloud Strife. He wanted her forgiveness and she convinces him he never needed it. He is her knight in shining armor and always was. The only way he let her down was by not allowing himself to be worthy of that happiness. They are eachother's family now. Cloud isn't a Soldier (which, given they come off like the SS in hindsight, is pretty awesome). He is the man worthy of protecting Tifa and the world. They return to reality. Cloud finally worthy of being the hero the world needs and the protagonist the story and player deserve. Elevated by his imperfections in a way that expresses of the Japanese concept of "wabesabe". - "I'll say hi to her for you" (abridged line). Cloud doesn't need Zach anymore, he doesn't need Aeris anymore, they can rest together in the lifestream happy their friend can finally accept himself. Huge applause to the crew on this episode.. you guys get this piece of work on a level I think is lost on many. ---- This is one of my favorite scenes in all fiction. It is not in a classic book or famous movie. It is in the greatest video game of all time. I wrote all of the above because I think the abridged team genuinely loves the content they made this episode from. The voice acting team (especially Tifa) - hats off to you. Because this scene isn't just romantic - it also is about friendship and selflessness. The importance of this scene and the fact that most of the sequels that have been added to the canon seem to at best not understand the scene or at worst ignore it is why I do not particularly care for any of the expanded universe content. Cloud and Tifa are big time in love with eachother from this moment onward in the (original) story. All meek or emo interpretations of their characters outside of that are sub par outside of that. THERE. I DONE WROTE A BIG OLD NERD RANT IVE BEEN HOLDING IN FOR NEARLY 2 DECADES. I HOPE AT LEAST ONE PERSON IS HAPPY!!!! LOVE FF7 ABRIDGED & BOTH THESE CHARACTERS

To be entirely honest., I'm someone that has probably finished the game more times than 90% of anyone else, yet I never once thought the voice in cloud's head was Zack. It makes it all make sense now. In my mind, it was just the influence of jenova cells pushing cloud to do shit, or just a bit of multiple competing personalities in his head. In that version of events, I thought zack had died and that was it. no lingering. He was just dead. I was kinda confused as to why zack was in the movie based on that assumption.

@@scythelord The game has a part later in Nibelheim where you learn how Zack and Cloud were captured, experimented on, and ' mind melded', (for lack of better term). It can be easy to miss that part, especially if you are not going after all the characters particularly Vincent Valentine.

In the original game, I think it was the real Cloud that with the white text. Most of the time, anyway. There's a few where I think it is supposed to be Jenova, but those are basically just the moments where Sephiroth is fucking with Cloud. Otherwise I think the text is Cloud's subconscious inner self trying to help him see the inconsistencies in his past. If you go back to the Temple of the Ancients scene, you can see the child Cloud yelling at him not to give the Black Materia to Sephiroth.

Cloud using just his abs to yeet Sephiroth into the reactor was always one of my favorite bits of the game.

Yeah she is, but also there is definitely some irony in that statement. The experiments Hojo did on Cloud after the Nibelheim incident infused him with Mako and more or less made him stronger than any SOLDIER 1st Class. What were SOLDIERs of any class other than mako-infused grunts anyhow. Basically the qualifications for SOLDIER was just a screening process to find candidates most likely to survive Mako infusion and be obedient to Shinra. Clearly Cloud was capable, they just failed to identify him as a suitable candidate until he bested Sephiroth one on one. TL;DR, Cloud basically was SOLDIER 1st Class from then on.

I have this headcanon that Sephiroth is actually Vincent's son and Hojo made him the subject of the Jenova Project just to screw the Turk over one last time. It's wrong, I know, but would've been more impactful in my eyes.

It kinda shows how deranged, and unempathetic he was to the people around him - unlike Professor Gast which acted as an foil (even Sephiroth mentions hating Hojo, but respecting Gast).

Sephiroth: Just who the hell... do you think you are? Ramirez: WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM!?! ...because I have no idea.

yeah it's in the original too but it's to imply Cloud has an unusual body. He has since he was a kid. Like cloud been impaled by sephiroth twice in the chest. Whenever sephiroth impales anyone they die. He's not missing with cloud it's just cloud doesn't die.

Cloud suffered basically scratchs after the fall in the game. As a boy, without the ShinRa conditioning or the mako injections (even guards have them, but to a much lower degree than SOLDIERS). Tifa, on the other hand, almost died, and the whole town blamed Cloud because they thought they were there because of him, instead of him following her to try and keep her safe.

That's from the game, when Cloud falls from the Sector 5 reactor, into the church where he meets Aerith, before he regains consciousness, the voice in his head says "Back then...... You could get by with just skinned knees" which is referring to Cloud falling from the bridge, and only getting mildly injured, whereas Tifa got severely injured.

I cant handle it. I use TFS to experience the content they are abridging, I never watched dragonball z, and I never played ff7 before TFS, similar to sword art online and something witty entertainment. So I understand you have to give us the serious shit, but this was just super slow and very little if anything was funny, while something witty manages to get both the serious shit across to you, while still keeping up the humor just as much as the serious shit... I just found myself fast forwarding this entire fucking episode ._.

I love how it was a combination of Sephiroth’s mental breakdown from discovering Jenova and the shock from Cloud besting him that tore a genuine scream from Sephy’s throat instead of his monotone from falling off a bridge.

FF7: Who's Zack? FF7MA: Glad to hear Zack again. And I think they made a reference to his ending lines in Crisis Core where he asks Cloud to tell Aerith he said "hi" Crisis Core: WHAT THE HELL ZACK? WHY DID YOU LEAVE US? * cries uncontrollably *

I think we can all agree Aeris's foster mom is the best mom in the game, taking care of Aeris when her husband dies and even after finding out Aeris is an Ancient who gets hounded by the Turks, takes care of Marlene, asking Cloud to leave in the night to avoid Aeris's inevitable death and not stabbing Cloud in the gut when she finds out that Aeris is dead but continues to takes care of Marlene STILL even though this is like the 3rd person that has died on her (her husband, Ilfaina, now Aeris) that woman is a saint

Probably the only scene I might've enjoyed more in the actual game than the TFS version, the world map theme song just reaching the climax after Cloud throws Sephi into the LifeStream and the player FINALLY realizes why he was in the North Crater in that Huge Materia was all bc of Cloud regular-ass-Strife not the 1st Class Soldier Zack

Neat, now not only are you forced to do what the other person does you will be triggered from it. That is extra sadistic.

As much as I love the original game, I think this series made me more invested in the relationship between Cloud and Tifa than the original game did. I'm very impressed.

Well with the remake we maybe will get all of this. I mean after all FF7 was the strangest Masterpiece ever. After all the Game was totaly rushed and they had more or less no Budget left. So i just hope the Remake will be the original 7 but with everything that was cut or could not be implementet.

I love it when Zack said Dude to Cloud, The voice actor of Zack in this Abridged sounds more naturally chill than Zack's Voice Actor In Crisis Core. Also I like how Mister Lockhart words sounds more convincing than the Original.

I remember the first time I saw that twist that Cloud was there in Nibelheim, I was floored. That caught me off guard more than any other plot twists in any game.

I know Justin Briner wasn't cast as Deku when this started, but hearing Cloud talking about Sephiroth at 7:54 makes it sound like a darker version of Deku's admiration for All Might.

Dude. All the inuendos, man. It's all leading up to Cloud and Tifa's most memorable scene. Where Cloud does Tifa a Solid and Tifa does a Dolphin Blow on Cloud. XD This game is NOT for kids

I love what you did with Cloud and Zack here. It really gets across just how much they cared about each other. Now Tifa is going to rock Clouds world as Words arent the only way people communicate.

This part of the game is why i'm such a huge Tifa fan.

The knowledge that Mike had to do Seph's scream while someone was probably still asleep in another room is just great

I won’t lie. Your version of Tifa’s theme slowed down and a bit somber-ish is so beautiful that it fit so well in the flashbacks with Kid Cloud and Kid Tifa that it brought me to tears! Thank you

Zack and Cloud's banter in Crisis Core was adorable. My favourite part is when they first meet, they bond over how stupid their respective hometown's names are and proudly declare themselves "Backwater Experts" to the rest of the team.

How you can spout religious dogma in a game that is wholly anti-religion is beyond me.

An emotional episode and a nice show of how Cloud and Tifa actually are like. I'd love to see how the rest of the series will go now.

The fact the episode was mostly serious is what made it amazing

4:40ish "I said your eyes were pretty. I wasn't looking at your eyes." "Yeah I figured."

It’s good to see Cloud back in action. I also like that Tifa slipped on her own memory at the water tower too. Great episode! I'm looking forward to the gang getting back together. Who knows, maybe Barrett will start taking Cloud seriously (lol), see more Zack flashbacks, or even Vincent might get his own episode (fingers crossed).

I wonder if they will show their version of the unlockable CloudxTifa (if you have the hidden high affection with Tifa) scene under the airship where its implied they sleep together?

You guys killed it. This is the most important scene in the entire story by far.

It's been a year and a half since this came out, and while the finale was wonderful, I think this is my favourite episode of FF7MA. That scene where Tifa is going through Cloud's subconsious and gets Cloud to realize that he as himself, is enough, is genuinely one of my favourite scenes in fiction. Sarah Anne Williams has to be given so much credit, her acting was off the charts good. I love this series so much, you guys completely outdid yourselves, especially with this episode.

The amount of effort in the voice acting and the editing really shows how much you guys love FF. Thank you so much.

You guys made a great abridged series.... I remember that in some first episodes Cloud calls Tifa as Tifa the Liar.... I wish this episode would make a turning point... that it's not Tifa who lied, but Cloud who lied to himself

Something worth pointing out - as far as Tifa's concerned, Cloud kept his promise to her. She didn't give one damn about him not making it into SOLDIER...she just wanted her best friend back. If she'd known about that alone - even NOT counting Cloud hurling Sephiroth into the reactor - I have a feeling she would've been much warmer to Cloud when they met again.

"Hey if this was all just text then I would have never figured it out" YES, PREACH IT!

The actions that made cloud to most an actual bada** that rivals all other protagonists. he's not just some random anime character with a sword that wins indefinitely. he goes through mako poisoning, an identity crisis, being controlled by sepheroth. he never made it to first class of soldier but he still beat sepheroth. I never played ff7 as a kid so even without nostalgia. he's one of the coolest characters I've seen.

I waited for you but... You never came Tifa's word, yeah... THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID

Cloud: I said your eyes were pretty......*voice tenses*but i wasn't looking at your eyes @_@ . Tifa: Yeah, i had a feeling.

I love how this turned out, honestly. A very good way to portray this strange but striking moment in the game.

I love how Tifa has been using her anger at what happened to Cloud to cover up her worry about Cloud.

HAHAHAHAHA! Loved the ending. It is really hard to balance humor and a serious tone in the same episode but you did it. You always do, you are the best guys, you are number one.
