    At the very start of the game, Terra has extra Magitek abilities that Biggs and Wedge don't, and she has access to them in Cyan's dream, as well. While everyone has Fire/Ice/Lightning Beam and Healing Force, she also has Bio Blast (AoE Poison AND Sap, geeez), Banisher (instant death a la Banish), Confuser (go on, guess), and Tek Missle (non-elemental damage, ignores defense, also applies Sap).

    1:52:52 Thanks for this, all along I've wondered why they picked some giant robot (with no lower body as well) for alexander, and I've never played FF4, so I never knew of this. I think this is probably the explanation. I honestly thought it was just some obscure anime reference all this time.

    I think cyan got far more attention than the rest partly because he had a tragic backstory, but most likely also because that was all the time the devs had left before they had to ship the game, so they probably could only focus on him.

    With Sabin healing a Soul Saver, he was equipped with Dragon Claws, I believe, which deal Holy damage, and all the enemies in that fight are healed by Holy.

    I absolutely love this series, I played FF6 a long time ago and have been really wanting to replay it (since I'm sure I missed so much as a kid), but haven't had the time to really be worth it. Not only do I get to enjoy it again, but also I adore your speculation and lore drops that I would never have thought of or known had I done it myself.

    For me the doma castle/cyan theme was more of a "Hey I recognize this!" since I played FF6 long before FF14, but as far as the series was concerned, FF6 isn't one of those I had extremely strong memories off (mostly because I actually played it after 7, 8, 9 and tactics, and it was during guard duty while in the army) The entire stormblood alliance raid, that I had very fond memories off for the music there since FF tactics was and still is probably the final fantasy I loved the most, although 7 comes pretty close. Bonus points for SE including Grotesque Creature, the final boss theme from vagrant story, in the raid. It was another RPG from the PS1 era I loved that I felt has been very underappreciated.

  • @tsbulmer
    @tsbulmer2 ай бұрын

    Regarding the Doma theme - you get the shivers in FF6 because you heard it in 14, whereas I got the shivers in 14 because of knowing it from 6. Cyan was one of my favorite characters in all of gaming from the moment I played this 'til many years afterward, and the idea of grief alongside perseverance and dignity really resonated with me. Fast forward many (maaaaany, geez) years later and I was mid-way through Stormblood, with "Doma" nothing more than another shallow reused-name reference, but then the Doma theme hits as I meet Hien. He was instantly endeared to me, before I learned so many valid reasons to appreciate the character.

    I fell in love with the game when the cosmology opened up between HW and StB, but StB was when I recognized it was something really special. There aren't that many of us who proclaim our love of Stormblood, but we're out here, and there's even an FF14 content creator who's effusive about it.

    I don't know how it works for enemies, but when Strago casts Lv. ? Holy, it hits enemies whose level is a multiple of the ones digit of your gil. If the digit is a 1, that's valid and it hits all of them, and it works that way for 0, as well.

    @@WoodenPotatoes For sure! At some point, some madman must've played through the game focusing on things like that and Traveler, which is keyed off of your step count, and *really* cared about those figures as strategic tools. 5 is the only one I've played. Great game, don't remember a mime boss. 14 has the 15 crossover where the guy from 15, along with his car and his Garuda somehow end up in Eorzea but I don't know if that's canon.

    FF5 *was* one of the ones skipped in the US! With 3 and 5, jobs were an established part of the FF franchise in Japan, but we didn't see it in the US until Tactics, as far as I know. As for my personal experience with 5, I didn't beat it, but my impression of it was that the story was light-hearted enough that I didn't get particularly invested, but I *loved* the job system, though it was mostly because the Sorcerer (or Mystic Knight, depending on the version) lit my imagination on fire. I can easily imagine you finding the game interesting due to the mechanics and buildcraft, though maybe not gripping, due to the tone.

    Thought about Gogo, perhaps the point of gogo is to give players a way to still use the skills of characters you missed/lost earlier? Say if you hadnt gotten shadow, i guess you could still have gotten access to throw through gogo, although perhaps in a weaker form due to his stats

    Not that it's any use to you now, but Gau Cat Scratches weren't inconsistent - the problem was that he was sometimes doing a regular attack rather than Cat Scratch. Gau's just so frustrating to me. If Rage replaced your regular combat menu options with monster ones, and they were at least a little balanced, I would be so much more into it, but alas. At least now there are mods that indicate what each Rage does in-game.

    I apparently clicked on this video 1 minute after it went live, according to youtube. As I type this, there's only one comment loaded (and it seems to be from a bot). Totally unimportant, but I find it surprising because it's not like I sat here refreshing my subscription page waiting for a new video - it's pure chance that the first time I got on to my computer today and checked youtube was the moment the video went live. I was confused when you talked about Gogo using maces from the back row and mentioning one called "Scorpion Tail", because that all clearly describes flails, not maces, but I did find on the wiki that they call them maces (despite the pictures being clearly of flails) so really not your fault. I'm assuming it's likely a localization mistake (or perhaps the original JP dev team not understanding medieval western weapon classifications?) since one of the "maces" is called "Morning Star" - a morningstar is essentially a very spiky mace. Which makes that particular weapon doubly wrong, because the picture does not depict a morningstar in the slightest. Anyway, that's enough nitpicking from me... This comment overall feels annoying and pointless but I needed to get these thoughts out of my head :P
