Bet they'll remove this in the pixel remaster. Would've been fun if they made him possibly survive like Schala in Chrono trigger DS

Woah, nice video. I was doing a run using only Kumama(replacing Edgar), Setzer and Kutan (replacing Celes) after I read about about this glitch, but never occurred me to actually go back and do the previous cutscenes in order to unglitch the freezing places. But this here shows the glitch causes much more collateral effects

@@HannibalGraham in all fairness to you, this video was made before many of the modern video and sound editing conventions that we take for granted were in place.

The only time I ever managed to use Leo in the world of ruin was when the game cartridge was accidently knocked out of alignment mid battle in what I think was the Phoenix cave. I was even able to make him use magic and was surprised to see his sprite had its own spell casting movements - but it didn't last long!

Can't wait for the FF6 full 3D rendered remake.

+Mika Misame I would love that... I hope it happens some day, because I'm not all that happy with the current remake (the one for tablets / phones / steam). It's nice that I can play FF6 on my HDTV, but a 3D remake would be super fun. 6 is my fav... ^_^

There is a way, but they replace Strago and Relm, starting with Strago. You do the aforementioned Airship glitch, then play normally. AFTER you get Strago and Relm recruited, go back to the Phantom Train forest with a party of just Sabin and Cyan, and go ahead and recruit one or both ghosts. After you're done, go back to the Airship and Strago and/or Relm will be replaced with ghosts. As a result of this glitch, Gogo will also inherit the Possess command. Don't worry about using it. They simply remove them from your party and place them back on your Airship. And yes, the Possess command kills everything, bosses and all.

@@pedrojosebellobelen3824haveing a mixture of living and undead in the same party without it being a status effect would bring a new level of difficulty to the game. However the ghosts as the are couldn't make it very far into the game before they became useless. So the ghost would need to be a new character. What could have been interesting is to have cyans kid, and wife haunt the returners until a point were you can get them as a special summon or playable undead characters. It wouldn't make much sense with the story but whatever it could still be cool.

A cool idea if they ever get around to a remake is to give you the option of using the pheonix magicite to either awaken Rachel or revive Leo. Awakening Rachel gives closure to Locke as well as the Pheonix magicite when she sacrifices herself, reviving Leo recruits him to your party and could probably include different interactions between him and Terra or Kefka. The game has a ton of potential for a proper remake

Another great idea is to explain what the heck happened to Bannon shortly after the floating Island. The last time you see him alive he is at the Empire, so I am guessing he was captured and killed

Wonderful video. I posted on a while back using a glitch to keep in alive in Thamasa, but this takes the cake. A playable Leo kept alive. Now if only there was a way to keep Aeris alive in FFVII and my life would be complete.

Aeris is overrated and deserves to stay dead. :P People only like her because she had the invulnerability limit break. If she didn't have that, I doubt people would have cared.

For the record Leo can be taken everywhere in the world of ruin even with a party change. If you keep leo as the lead when you do a party change via airship , Phoenix cave , Kefka tower simply leave your lead spot open and viola Leo is back. His sprite actually disappears in town/caves which is somewhat annoying , but the thought of completing the world of ruin with a level 99 Leo is pretty badass. Going to see if he can do the final battle using the same method

I started playing around with the timing of the first save and taking bannon the the WOR , any idea on how to get bannon permanently moved to the back row ? It seems to make bannon dissapear when I get to the WOR (only seen in battle) , and it is very tough to level him up as a front leader at the front of the party

I did it using the iOS version , but since everything is the same as the gba version I'm almost certain it will work the same. I'm going to go back to my snes version to verify if you can keep Leo this way on the original. Unfortunately I tried that with bannon and he always comes back to the front row. Even though it's a total waste of states I'm going to level up on the lete river cuz I wanna see of I can get bannon to the final battles

It really is harder than just that , if you try to get through the wob at lower levels (which is always my goal) every monster aside from the monsters on solitary island one hit kill me. Also doesn't help that you cannot heal outside of battle , so just about every battle Bannon is starting off one shot from death

Holy shit. You my man are an absolute genius. I'll have to watch this a few times to discern exactly which events to trigger, but I have ff3 on my laptop and was actually playing it earlier. I always thought there was ad way to acquire Leo but damn...this is pretty complicated. I'm sure he's worth it though. Thanks man, you don't know it but you made history here

Sorry, I'm confused. I'm playing through (for old time's sake) and re: Celes which you skipped over in the video @ 4:05, what do you mean by "skipping" Celes? I tried skipping her by glitching out of South Figaro, but all I ended up with was Kutan who can't be equipped with anything. I know it's an old video, but some clarification would be much appreciated if possible. Thank you EDIT: Nevermind, I missed the part that Leo would disappear if you tried to change party members, so it doesn't matter. Either or, got it working, thanks for the fun!

Back when this game was new, I had 2 cartridges of it, one for each parents' house for me to play. The one I played at my dad's had a glitch that wasn't usable. I could sometimes get Leo in my party during a battle but it always immediately froze. I recall it happening in the Ancient Castle but god it was so many years ago. It wasn't even good since it would ruin your progress with the freeze, but it would glitch, he would be in your party, and I think something else happened with the appearance.

Sounds like maybe a faulty memory from a long time ago, I've had some about other games before. I guess there could've been an issue with the cartridge or console if this really happened, but otherwise no one has ever experienced Leo just randomly popping up in the party. Maybe the sketch bug can cause something like that? it only works on 1.0, so the other cartridge could've been 1.1.

Great video, but how do you keep the airship after using the boat to go to WoR ? Isn't it supposed to disappear after the map change ?

Heh, I read that as part 3 of 6. Even today Nintendo of America is confusing people about game numbering. I found hundreds of Game Genie codes for FF6 within about a week of the game's release. I was hoping for walking through walls (my favorite for FF4), but getting General Leo with a cheat code from game start didn't take so long to figure out (maybe one evening). After that, it was years and years before I found out about Kutan replacing Celes, etc. I'm glad to see the glitch discovery gruntwork is still being carried on today!

Nice I remember doing this with Game Genie I think and also playing as Kefka. It would cause interesting things to happen like Terra having white clothes on and brown hair.

You earned a subscriber wonderful discovery on one kf my favorite games! Thank you could you do a guide on the secret boss event triggered at Figaro that can only be activate if requirements are met? It ia in the game memory and just like the intangir it is a missable thing. I would appreciate that.

From just cruising aroung KZread I stumbled upon this Gold of a find. Wow, this is pretty detailed and good. In my youth, I remember playing countless hours of trying this and that, and coming across this glitch only to be stuck. I tried so many different paths and options. I even remember using Realm to get General Leo and other characters. Hits me in the feels. But, there is one thing that I was never able to find out. There was this glitch or not? that made the illumina looked like the Atma weapon. i can't remember all the details since it was so long ago, I just remember being able to dual weild Atma, and Atma style illumina at full lengths and effects. It saved! Someone stole the game from me and I could never reproduced it again after rebuying the game. Illumina looked weird to me. I played the game back then thinking that was how the illumina looked like hence the name also. There are no details whatsoever about anyone who has done the same. I been going bat shit for years because of this. One of my old friends said I might have had a one of a kind copy of the game.

I'm sure if you look up "dual wielding Ultima Weapon and Illumina" on KZread you'll find something. If not, watch the final fantasy 6 speedrun that essentia and puxweil did (it's 8 hours long). They're very knowledgable about this game, and must have mentioned something about what you said here. They did mention something about this glitch. On that video I'd start at the point where they find the Ultima Weapon.

I tired it and it works however the game wont let me keep Leo once i switch characters. They said we had to leave one space open when changing characters. I did that and it doesn't show Leo nor in the ship. Have you solve that problem?

One thing I forgot to mention is you will want to level leo in the dinosaur forest before you attempt a character change because he will disappear from the inventory screen and no longer gain experience.

Leo must occupy an empty slot also , I've been using the iOS version and when all characters are acquired poof leo is gone , so I suggest leaving the worthless umaro

What about all the other events, espers, characters, etc. in the second run of the World of Balance? Will doing this let me pick up all of them too, or will this leave half my characters as moogles with a lot of espers missing when I revive Leo? 'Cause it sounds like you're saying to skip a ton of things to the Floating Continent (relatively) fast on the 2nd go, if I'm not misunderstanding.

If you want 3 characters in the section with Terra and Locke going to talk to the espers, you can leap Gau in the veldt before you get Terra back and then pick up Gau from the Veldt on the way to the imperial base.

I'm pretty sure you don't need to do just Terra and Locke. I never did test it, but I just did it for safety. Almost 100% sure you can bring a full party.

Intersting question: If General Leo was 100% intended to be in the game, like as a secret character like Umaro and Gogo,... then what would his music theme be at the end fo the game??? Probably something from the Empire???

How did you regain control of the airship before doing the split quest? You don't get the airship til after the battle of Narshe.

@EliteGamerCorp I know this video was made a long time ago and all, but would you happen to know about a glitch where you permantly have the blackjack in the world of ruin, and it shows up early at the edge of serpent trench? I'm not sure if it started when I noticed the blackjack was taking off at the wrong spot while I was doing things in Thamasa, or if it happened somewhere later on. But once I got to the World of Ruin, while trying to find Mobliz, I found the blackjack parked outside of it on the coast, and it would bring me inside it if I used it and the npc's functioned properly. I didn't fly it since I hadn't saved and didnt want to screw up my entire file. But when I got the Falcon later, after I parked it near zozo, it turned back into the blackjack and restarted the cutscene that occurs where the gate to the esper world opens and the floating continent rises. Afterward it put me back into the World of Balance except with most towns still being like how they were in the world of ruin. I got back to the World of Ruin using the boat and beating leviathan, but now it is permantly the blackjack on the map and when I enter it, but if i stop midflight, it turns into the falcon and everything is there as I believe it should be.

Not sure what glitch you're referring to. First time I've heard of it. The airship is always the black jack in the world of balance. I know this from the glitch.

Successfully did it. At the beginning of the glitch though, it's better to land at Jidoor first to get Edgar some good equipment before soloing Zozo.

Another thing to mention: After you leave the floating continent, I believe it is imperative that you NOT LAND

I noticed in the beginning parts of the video your characters are already maxed out to level 99. how the heck did you manage that so soon in the game??

this works on the ps1 version also?

Ive been doing this on the iOS and all of it works as well as the party switching trick mentioned by another commentor, well sort of.... If you leave the first slot open, Leo will indeed be there in battles but not on the menu nor the overworld. On the world map the sprite of your second character will be displayed and no sprite will be displayed at all in towns, which can be problematic... As of now I have no clue how to fix that and keep Leo. Anyway I wanted to ask if you knew what the exact trigger for all of the NPCs being removed from Doma was because it was my impression that happens a lot with the airship glitch.

Okay interesting thing I found while playing around with the invisible Leo sprite thing, when you change characters Leo will essentially be semipermanently written onto slot 1 if you leave it open and will stay there unless you acquire a "fourth" party member. If you switch one of you party members into the lead, Leo will not appear in battle but he actually is still in the party. As soon as you switch you lead into whatever open slot you have, Leo will again appear in battle but you're back to having no sprite on the everywhere else.

Both, but the cost is you lose leo's out of battle sprite. I have tested this both with normal switching on the airship and entering Kefka's tower. So long as the fist slot in the first of the three parties is left open leo can be used in the Tower, however the cost of this is you have to guess where you are standing, unless you are willing to constantly switch back and forth between leads, since you lose his out of battle sprite and he will only participate in if that slot is left empty.

He only appears in the left route party. I should also mention that the menu screen does not display his portrait but he is in fact there. It's weird but I suspect that it's because the game stores portrait and sprite data as a separate thing from battle stats, like how you can overwrite Sabin's stats onto that otherwise worthless moggle.

I haven't tested that yet but I have a suspicion that's the case since the party is called based on an ordered list. Right now I'm still working seeing if there's a way to restore his portrait data, I'm pretty certain there isn't but might as try.

Well, I finally ran into a hiccup. At 5:50, Terra is at Figaro Castle to finish the scenario. I follow Locke to the room as normal, but then I change back to Edgar and the map doesn't change back to the World of Balance. What gives? Also, could you clarify what you were saying about retrieving characters before attempting this part of the glitch? Thankupo!

To each his own then, ill have to remember that if i find a glitch in a first person shooter that allows me to to hide and not be seen and yet shoot every enemy player with impunity since its not cheating. I do like your video dont get me wrong its very interesting, I just persnally think the title is misleading but thats just my opinion, still interesting work.

This video was really cool and jnformative, but what exactly can Leo do? And what are his stats? I dont know what stats do what in this game but Locke is fast, Gau has great attack, Sabin has great defense and since Leo wasnt a playable character(unless I missed it in the story) he shouldnt have stats unless its overriden from someone else

Leo's specialty is that he can attack four times I think. Give him the offering, and I would think he could f--- s--- up. Maybe, I've never played as him outside of the one scene.

Leo is definitely a playable character that you get for one unwinnable battle in Thamasa. He comes with an Offering, so his normal attack is X-Fight, and his special is Shock (the same ability that Gau can use from the Retainer rage). I never looked at his stats though.

Mentoined it before, but still a really interesting way. Getting General Leo was known to be possible before but taking him into the WoR on the non-GBA version of the game was still unknown. Cool stuff.

There actually is and I am going to make a follow up on my new version of this video sometime in the future once I figure out how to do it for myself.

Someone asked if this is possible to use to get Kefka and seemingly deleted said comment. I believe it would be, you would just need to manipulate the flags differently.

I just started over but I'm playing ff3 on an emulator through letsplaysnes.com, and I hope the airship glitch will work through emulators because the vanish&sketch glitch sure as Hell won't work on it. I used to have fun with that glitch on super Nintendo. I just want to know that once I get leo, what do I have to do to keep him? I mean, detailed, what do I have to do to keep him and not have him lost because he's a glitch and not supposed to be there in the first place. Can I switch party members and what's all the mess about keeping umaro if you don't want nog etc.

To quickly sum up what I did - I went to Zozo, did the Terra thing, left Zozo with Terra, Edgar and Locke, did the opera, then thru the Magitek Factory, then back to Zozo to check on Terra, and then finally you get the chance to pilot the airship. Once here, Edgar disappeared from my party, and Setzer is in the party. There is nobody available inside the airship to switch the character party around, and freakin' out lol. I will try to figure out if there are any other ways to rearrange the party without glitches in the mean time. I appreciate the quick response! Thank you. I've only waited 25 years for this lol...

I should note that Edgar for some reason was only level 6 for when my Terra and Locke were at 20. I should also note that the save point I reverted back to with the airship was when Terra was solo outside of Figaro Castle. Going to Zozo made Locke magically reappear, and going the opera scene takes a little wiggling to get it to work correctly.

Update: Went to Figaro and progressed a little further but not completely and Edgar showed up on the airship so I could switch around my party. Praise be!

I don't get it. he says play through the game after the zozo scene until you get the airship. How does he do the sabin's quest with the airship then?

It's been a long time since I played this, so I might get some information incorrect, but I believe Zozo is after the split sidequest. Meaning, starting at Zozo, you can get the airship then go and trigger the split quest later. It's all to set up events in a certain order to replace Banon with General Leo, as they both share the same slot in memory. Once the game determines you should have Leo, it replaces Banon.

@@HannibalGraham wait. First you get edgar, the sabin. After getting sabin, you go to the returners hideout. Then sabin gets kicked out of the river. Thats when the party split begins. You dont have the airship yet until terra goes crazy, after the return to narshe and after getting more party members

I was told years ago fighting 255 time with cursed shield didnt fight that many battles for it hopefully this one is better one I can trust.

Yeah, you get the pally shield. I can confirm this, it gives you 255 defense.

and you can use relics to supercede some of the status effects of the Cursed Shield (most importantly confusion)

Espers. Certain ones grant bonus stats on level up when they're equipped.

Getting leo is IMPOSSIBLE by non-glitch means, so yes it is impossible by normal means.

I got Leo a different way.....With Relm in my party ....using her paint ability...on a certain enemy..I believe its right... outside of her village...will trigger Leo to be in your party...Unfortunately after using him in some battles...when you get on the map the game ..gets wacko....Dont think you can play right afterwards.....I will have to redo that and see..how far i can get after getting Leo...

That was awesome. I had no idea. As a kid put in probably 300 hours into that game and never even knew it was possible to play as leo. Even if its a glitch still cool.

***** its cool that you brought light to this ,but , yes , i think personally you should redo this video , taking your time to make a more ordered video. Outline : 1. the versions you known it to work on 2. the final result if successfully executed 3. just , all the mechanical steps in precise order of when/how you should do them. 4. only then , go back and explain why it works , theories on coding , so on. (including mention of weapons/items/espers that Leo can use ,as well as his inability to be used in the Colosseum.) But , that's just me and my opinion of , how you could better convey the information you wanted to share.

I’m genuinely lost at how you can even accomplish this feat?!? How do you get to the floating continent or Terra in Zozo without getting all the characters? 🤷‍♂️

You're playing the game normally until the floating continent and only saving the one time until then. Once you get there, you jump off and go back on then die. It puts you in the airship so you can fly wherever you want. Zozo is the only place that doesn't soft/hard lock you.

It's not a code, it's a glitch you do by resetting airship glitch. You can do this on console with no codes

@@SpringySpring04 I built on already known information. Basically there are a lot of flags in the game and I abuse how those flags work. Using the airship the way I do was already known, but understanding how the flags work wasn't known until I did it. I saved at a certain time and do the missions in a specific order to have these flags do what I want them to do. Since Banon and Leo share a slot, I have to make sure the river is the last thing I do.
