Is it worth the $41.99 Black Friday price?

For some reason I am not compelled at all to buy and play FF16 Am I wrong? I am more excited playing FF8 now, or even replaying FF10. Ived never played FF7 and I am more excited of the thought of buying ff7 original to play that one. What is it about FF16 that is not giving me excitment?

More seriously, the biggest criticism I heard of the game's story was that much of it is exceptionally and disproportionately miserable, particularly with regard to the hatred everyone seems to have for Bearers. Did you find that to be the case, at the start or across the whole game? Or does the later game change things up and curb the fantasy racism at least a little bit?

Erm. That's a good question. So having Clive being a bearer for years before trying to help reacue bearers neatly sidesteps the metaphorical "white savior" problem. At the same time, it's a bit weird how progressive his dad is portrayed despite he himself keeping bearers as slaves in Rosaria. They're all like, "oh, given enough time he totally planned to free them. He just had to do it the 'right' way." I'd say overall it isn't totally miserable as there is plenty of story about both bearers fighting for freedom and others helping them. Though I would say the game is trying to be more realistic, so playing that whole element in a more light hearted way would have been counterproductive and, honestly, offensive. I think it struck a decent balance.

@@Meromorphic Oh, I'm not particularly concerned about white-saviorism so much as, are there significant numbers of people - minor NPCs and major - who are not incredibly vile, bigoted anti-bearers, and do general attitudes change toward the end? So to speak, does the world turn out to be worth saving after all? I think realism would unfortunately require at least a slightly more nuanced and subtle approach, myself. Most bigotry isn't that overt; it's either subtle or very... Matter-of-fact, so to speak. A loud minority openly screams hate, but the vast majority will usually just casually express bigoted beliefs, act like the social inequality involved is just How Things Are and blandly support the status quo, just act in a very "well of course they're lesser, everyone knows that" way, or sit by while a few people in power behave cruelly. Although it could just be because of that unfortunate factor of sidequests being bad and the main story kind of being the overwhelming majority of the game. Not much room to develop nuance when there's not much room to develop... storytelling outside the main plot, after all.

Eh, it will be out on PC soon enough. AFAIK it was only a 6 month exclusivity, and the PC version will be better if 7 remake and 15 are anything to go by.

If you're interested in more gay rep that is simply woven into the character interactions and not the Focus of the characters at hand, try 13 sentinels. it's a fantastic game outside of that with a very unique narrative experience, and I find someone even the people who have heard of it just never knew there's a gay endgame couple in it. the more you know!

Personally I found the combat just so boring and repetitive. This is where 7 remake was perfect. There were actually builds via the materia. 16 was just like you said, here's a new straight upgrade to your equipment. Which would be like 5 more dmg each. Idk I couldn't even complete the game. I loved how if I used lightning on a machine in 7 remake it would stagger. 16 you just do the same attack every enemy.
