Aside from the extra down, mishandled clock, and missed try, there is some noteworthy material in this game. Andy Reid was the O-Line Coach at Mizzou in ‘90. Also, current Chiefs OC is Eric Bieniemy (Buff RB in video). Buffs HC, Bill McCartney, a former Mizzou player admitted that he made mistakes in handling the game after retiring in ‘98. The officiating crew was suspended immediately afterwards. However, the Big Eight commissioner denied the game to be forfeited by the Buffs to a lesser Missouri team. Further, on fifth down, Stacy Elliott (Ezekiel Elliott’s father) is in on the tackle. Mizzou’s OC for this game was Dirk Koetter who was the Buccaneers HC until he was fired in 2018.

So these announcers said the down was wrong on second down..but then forgot about it 15 seconds later?

I think it's crazy how the commentators and players on Missouri don't seem to realize it was fifth down either.

OMG! The Play by Play Announcer, and the Color Commentator are just as clueless as the Referees! 🥸

One guy had a really nice comment here, pointing out the different times and the number of downs, but it's since been lost because of the new comment system. So I'm gonna recreate it.

I have officiated high school football for ten years now. Not an expert by any stretch, but I do know that after every play each official holds up their fingers to show what down it is. We work 5-man crews. I am shocked that a 7-man college crew completely missed this.

I was 14 years old listening to the game on the radio while my brother played a fall baseball game. Bill Wilkerson's call was epic! "Second down for Colorado, check that first down, wait a second, it's gotta be...well, I've been wrong before" then on the final play "Hold em Tigers! Hold em Tigers! NO! NO! NO...they call it touchdown???"

Not only did Colorado receive a 5th down, the quarterback was stopped short on the play. And they benefited from the phantom clip vs. Notre Dame as well. Some teams get all the breaks...

Nothing helps a drive like an extra down.

From 2008-2010 CU quarterback Charles Johnson was my little league football and basketball coach for the Green Valley Giants in Denver . Wherever you are I love and miss you coach !!!🖤

This is actually a good experiment into Groupthink. The line judges simply didn't change the down marker sign and all of a sudden the announcers, players, coaches and presumably all the fans believe the down marker when it's not true. If thousands of people can't keep track of counting to 5 then what other ways can people be controlled?

Dave Logan, a great multi-sport star in HS, great receiver at CU and a productive receiver for the Browns in the 70s

This was the craziest end of a game ever! The Buffaloes got a 5th Down. There was confusion on the field. It was the first year a QB could spike the ball to stop the clock in a college football game. There was also a person in the stands having a heart attack, so medical personnel were attending to him.
