Final Destination has always felt so unique as a franchise. There is no Michael Myers. No Ghostface. No Jason. No physical force you have to escape from. You can run from death all you want. But unlike most slasher villains, it will not relent. It will always be looming over your shoulder. And it does not like to be cheated.

Wellllllll this isn’t exactly accurate. You are right that the creator (Jeffrey Reddick) had the plan for it to be an X Files episode and Bob Shaye told him it was a movie in its own right. It was Bob Shaye who brought Glen Morgan and James Wong in. They are the X Files guys. They rewrote the screenplay based on Jeffrey’s original script. But it was not intentional on Bob Shaye’s part. Bob didn’t know Jeffrey had written it for X Files.

The blond guy in the jersey, is Sean William Scott he was a popular actor and comedian of the early 2000's. Some of his most popular movies are Road Trip, American Pie, Dude, Where's My Car, etc. and fun fact he makes a reappearance in Final Destination 5. He was well known for the time. The black man in the morgue is Tony Todd, the actor famous for the Candyman horror movies from the 1980's; he's character represents Death and some theorize he is actually the spirit of death that is hunting them in the film--that's why he knows so much about them, death's actions, etc. and why he doesn't care about the break-in.

Also a cool fact they did a little foreshadowing of how Todd, Billy and Terry were gonna die way earlier in the film. When Todd was threatening Alex to not move out of his seat so one of the girls can sit next to him he does a strangling motion showing he was gonna die from strangulation, when Billy is staring at the plane take off the reflection of the plane is flying across his face hinting how his face was gonna be sliced in half, and Terry is standing in one scene where on the wall behind her was a painting of a bus.

People always tell stories of small things such as a missed bus or broken alarm saving them from 9/11 and other disasters similar to this movie but You can also look at the opposite effect, all the times countless people have died because of minor things. World War 1 started because of a sandwich (seriously look it up), the Titanic could've been saved but one guy lost his keys to a safe that had binoculars in it so he missed the iceberg. It sounds crazy but these both happened like dominoes

Can we please point to other works of Kerr Smith like Dawson's Creek or The Fosters. "My Bloody Valentine (3D)" was so idiotic I could never forget it. They obviously put too much development time into the 3D effects. For example in the source material there is a 20 year gap between the mine disaster and the party but in the 3D version the party happens - completely tonedeaf - just 1 year after the disaster. And the reveal is also so convoluted and not thought through in any way... it's maddening.

This franchise straddles the line between comedic over the top deaths and human tragedy and I think that's neat.

Nice choice! This movie is the reason I didn't step on a plane until I was in my 20s 🤣You will definitely pick up various traumas along the way. Other horror series to consider: Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Insidious. / TV shows: American Horror Story, Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Standalone movies: Black Swan, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, "Grindhouse" (Planet Terror/Death Proof double feature), Jennifer's Body.

the original concept for these movies was it was literally death coming after them, that's why theres some like hint of supernatural stuff happening in this one, but they dropped that concept so it doesn't come up in any of the other movies.

On thing I noticed about the film is the frequent references to water. Water is everywhere. Water is commonly a symbol of death, burial and resurrection. Death seems to be personified by water in the film. Seems like it was raining at the airport. There's the water in the bathroom when Tod dies. There's a scene with Alka-Seltzer being dropped into a glass of water. There's the steaming kettle and the water leaking from the cracked mug. Alex almost drowns in shallow water. There's the canoe trip. There's the swimming-pool. It's raining when they're in the car. One of the characters is even named "Clear Rivers." Even the beer they're drinking could be considered water. Likewise, the Vodka, which means "water" in Russian, I believe. "Water, water, everywhere and all the boards did shrink." Also, all those electrical events in the film are analogous to water. Electricity is commonly analogized to water, e.g., electrical current etc. So, electricity = water = The Grim Reaper. It's great to find all this symbolism in a film that's primarily meant to be a good, albeit somewhat gruesome, entertainment, which it is. Of course, there's also the somewhat more obvious 180, John Denver etc. The six months = 180 days, guys! Another thing I saw was the use of German language and references to German filmmakers who were known for some famous, what you might call, horror movies. "Der Tod" is the German word for "death." Tod's the first survivor to die. In real life, if I were him, I wouldn't like that name and would have been very concerned from the get-go after the plane exploded. The character of teacher Murnau is almost certainly a reference to F. W. Murnau, a German director regarded as one of the most influential filmmakers for his work in the silent era. He famously directed "Nosferatu," a film about a vampire. Agent Schreck is a reference to the German actor Max Schreck who played the vampire, Count Orlok, in "Nosferatu." Interestingly, "Schreck" in German means "scare" or "fright." Agent Weine must be named after Robert Weine. He directed "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari."

Yay I get to watch FD again for the first time. About the delay between seeing the explosion and the glass shattering in the airport - apparently the film people had to argue with the studio to keep it that way. The studio insisted that they should be simultaneous. I'm so glad the studio relented and it's physically realistic

Not sure if you got told this in another comment yet already but there was an alternate ending to this movie! There was a deleted scene where clear and alex had slept together and which the different version of the end is clear ends up with a baby. However alex ends up dying trying to save her during the car scene towards the end. Carter also is alive at the end as the baby is a new life situation so it was a somewhat happy note for her and the baby. I think its possible there might not have been a franchise if they kept the original ending.
