It's certainly one of the best, and I'm ecstatic to see the guy return to activity. But I have another fave which compares (to my tastes), may I suggest: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mp6rxtudacLglrA.html more of a 'hard' remake rather than a 'pretty' one, but I like both so much.

This song completely encaptivated me when I first played Lufia 1 years ago. It really is one of the greatest soundtracks in a game of all time. You know not all of you are gonna survive the final battle. But it’s composed so it drives you forward to meet that final doom and builds the entire time. Epic song for an epic final battle! You did this song justice, awesome remake!

Limitations of the the technology back then also forced players to fill in the blanks with their imagination. That's a level of personal investment in the gameplay experience that modern games don't give you room for. Nowadays they can make and show you damn near anything in perfect detail and frequently do because they dumb everything down to the simplest in-your-face details to appeal to the broadest audience of dimwits out there.

@@blacklabel130 Lufia 2 is known to be one of the easiest RPGs on the SNES. I'm 20 hours through another play-through of the cartridge on original hardware and I can tell you. There's no challenge in battle or puzzles. More people play games now than ever before. There's more highly skilled game players than there were self proclaimed "gamers" in the mid-90's.

I was there and it was glorious. But that's how everyone feels about certain times in their lives. There were great games then and there are far more great games now. Even if it does take some curation. Back then you and I would have shared a lot of experiences with a lot of the same games. There'd be a communal shared experience. Now there's so much TV, games, etc that everyone shares less of a communal experience than ever before. This is the kind of cultural shift that "old people" aren't supposed to really understand. We get what we lived through, the kids get what they're living through. They see that we had a different situation but don't really "register" what it all means. We see that they have a different situation, but we see it through the lens of what we experienced as teenagers.

Before the seperation of the magical realm from the physical, and before the creator god Arek the Absolute, departed our realm to create new worlds... Was judgement... For eons the gods of Courage and Terror, of life and death, of order and chaos, and of fertility and destruction, fought one another for the right to rule the Earth. The judge of these cycles, was the Dual Blade. A sentient sword that was as old as the earth itself, and one that can slay the gods. The Dual Blade would sense the strength and will of the gods, and side with whomever was strongest. Thus ensuring a quick victory. And because of the worship of the goodly gods by the peoples of the earth, the good gods always won. The gods could always tell when the next cycle would begin, because the Dual Blade could sense the strength of it's bearer and begin to ring like a tuning fork. And each cycle, the slain gods would resurrect to do battle once more. However, the evil gods, tired of their losses, and because of their lust for power, devised a new plan. They would sow discord among the peoples of the earth. They would recruit the more cowardly and hostile races, such as the goblins, orcs and dragons. And send them against the Humans, goodly monsters, and the Elves. The peoples of the earth cried out to the goodly gods for aid, but none came. Prayers were sent up to the Minstrals, as they were called, but no answer fell from heaven. This is because the goodly gods were fighting their own battles. Indeed, fighting for their very lives. But because they did not answer, the peoples of the earth lost faith in the goodly gods. And as they lost faith, the Minstrals grew weak. And eventually, one by one, they were slain. The evil gods, having gained their first victory, celebrated as they began their first 1000 year reign. But their century of celebration and depravity would be cut short. As only 100 years later, Erim, the goddess of the domain of death, was called to the throne room of Arek the Absolute. What she witnessed would change her existence for eternity. For there, in it's mithril pedestal, sat the Dual Blade. But instead of resting, it was ringing. And Arek, who had not cared enough for his creation to become involved in it's welfare, gave a command to Erim. Find the one whom the for the Dual Blade rings. And she did. Through many battles and through dark depths, after barely surviving battle with the god of destruction, Gades, Iris guided the champions of humanity and the elves to the judgement of the Dual Blade. Through her interactions the goddess of death learned the power of emotions, and especially love. Something stirred in her heart that she had never felt before. And it left her confused. It came to pass that the one whom for the Dual Blade ringed, the warrior named Maxim, met face to face with the leader of the evil gods, or Sinistrals as the people called them, at the peak of the 3rd tower of fate. Though powerless to stop the tyrant god, and with the champions easily beaten and nearly dead, Maxim crawled across the stones in defiance of this evil and out of the love for his wife ,who lay beside him on the stone unconscious. In that moment, Daos, god of terror, lost his grasp on the Dual Blade. And to the shock of both Maxim and Daos, the Dual Blade appeared in the hands of Maxim. Outraged at the Dual Blade's betrayal, and out of fear of the Dual Blade, Daos fled. But not before be bellowed to the champions a final taunt: Come find me at my shrine. My fortress of Doom. Without warning, an island suddenly appeared in the sky. The people were horrified and feared the Sinistrals greaty. Their reign of Terror seemed to them, unending. As the city of Euclid was besieged, the champions took to the skies in their airship, the Excellion. As the humans and elves fought on the ground, and were slowly losing, the people put their trust in their champions. In desperation, the people called on the valor of their bravest fighters: Artea the elven ranger. Guy the strong. The fated warrior Maxim. And the sorceress captain of the Parcelyte army, and Maxim's wife, Selana. And so began, the final battle... Which annual of history that would come to be known, as the Battle of Doom Island.

If you've ever played the original game, the SNES synthesized trumpets for those exact tones. Meaning that the use of trumpets in this remix it's a throwback to the original sounds of the game. You should really look it up because it is an awesome Easter egg.

They tried to remake Lufia 2 for the DS. It was, uh, hit or miss. The dev studio for the Lufia games worked on the Rune Factory games too! The music never hits the Absolute Banger status that Lufia 2's soundtrack nails, but it's still solid; the fourth game even has a weirdly similar Fortress of Doom-esque location. That's what brought me here -- I wanted to listen to the OG Flying Final Dungeon track while fighting through it. The original devs, Neverland, got bought out by Marvelous, so there's hope for a new Lufia game at some point; man do I hope they'd opt to go for a 2.5D Octopath Traveler-esque aesthetic.

She knew it was time. He needed to Pay The Piper. He needed to be stopped. The horrors he had inflicted upon Mankind needed to be stopped. The millions who died throught History needed to be avenged. The destruction of Soddom and Gomorah. The waste of Human lives during both World Wars.

The original for this song actually is from lufia 1. Lufia 2 merely reuses it as the more popular game.

I miss my childhood, back when the lies given didn't depreciate my life into inaction. I had hope but no guidance. Talent but no investment. Desire to be loved but the only safe place was a dark room alone, away from cold hearted tyrants. Indifference to the soft nature of my boyhood. I see evil now more than ever and it drives me further into that void of known as self. I want you to know readers that I hate you and my feelings are just but intangible. A silencing within myself.
