Filtering used oil WVO, WMO for Diesels or heaters

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Info and How to filter Used vegetable or engine oil for use in Diesel engines or waste oil Burners. Used oil is an excellent source of free energy and an alternative diesel fuel.
Please check out the other Vids on my channel / glumpy10
Filtering oil is essential for use in Diesel engines as an alternative fuel. It is best to filter down to 5UM ( micron) or less in order to make the fuel clean enough for vehicle use. This method of using felt material is very cheap and effective in making the finer filters in your processing last much longer.
As well as removing the majority of dirt and unwanted particles, the felt also removes unwanted fats that can condense and block on board vehicle filters. Pre filtering like this is an alternative to cleaning used or waste oil when there is not enough time or reserve to let the waste oil settle which also results in very good cleaning of the oil.
This works best over the warmer part of the year so the oil needs to be left 3-6 months depending on the season it is collected.
I will be doing more Vids on running vehicles on used oil soon so please subscribe for updates as they are released.

    Been running my truck (on/off) waste veg oil since '05 and its been a great money saving side venture/adventure for sure. Noticed other folks commenting here on what people think/say when they hear of this concept and it never ceases to amaze me how most turn their noses up at the whole idea, or comment on how "you are being cheap" (because of course they aren't trying it, nor reaping any of the benefit)...yet shockingly for many of them, its perfectly okay to sponge off the government for years and years and years, steal to make ends meet, or even accept wars of human sacrifice and mass-destruction to procure and control foreign oil. It is amazing to me how so many can be so short sighted... even when simple DIY solutions are presented to them in a step-by-step youtube video. Oh well... more waste veg oil for the rest of us I guess ;)

    OgMandin0 I Have been going to do some Bio for the winter, another thing to do. Fortunately my vehicle run fine through winter on a 10% ULP / veg oil mix. Bio would be good to mix say 50% . Glycerin should never be a problem with Biodiesel because it should all be taken out before you put it in the vehicle. I prefer water washing myself as I find it is more reliable to get all the Glyc out but a friend of mine was dry washing and getting excellent results with that. Thanks again for the lind words and support. Much appreciated!

    Fark Tard Yeah, I used to use those too actually. They do work well. Used to have 3-4 of them suspended over 25L drums with the tops cut out dripping away. Spose you could always weld something on the sides of a drum to loop the handles through to suspend them. I remember Target used to have some real big bags. They held about 60L but you couldn't put that much in them or the handles tore off. :0(

  • @glumpy10

    @glumpy10

    9 жыл бұрын

    wetheralmaplefarm I don't think it would make any difference in a burner. Particles may clog a valve if you had it closed down but running wide open most would pass through. Mainly I am doing this to process the oil for fuel in my vehicle. That has to be clean as I can get it. this is just the pre filter to save my 1-5UM water filters I use for final filtering. In a burner the oil dosen't have to be nearly as clean but having dry oil with no dissolved water will make it run a lot hotter.

    If you use 1ml to 1litre of kerosene if you're leaving it to stand for 24 hours it can really help the viscosity? of the finished product you put in your engine. I used to do this when I ran veg oil and it does not matter if you accidentally use too much, but it has to stand for 24 hours. HAAPPY NEW YEAR. J

    kingswoodkid1985 I have been doing Bio with a friend over 10 years. All I would suggest to you is keep things simple. Every one goes over the top and is all pedantic. It's a simple process that if followed works well and you don't need to spend a lot of money on crap to make it work perfectly. Take everything you read with a grain of salt because many of the people doing it has some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder I reckon. Another friend made perfectly good Bio for many years just with a 200L drum on bricks with a gas ring under it and an old pool pump circulating the mixture. My other mate and I built a processing setup that would Hold 1000L ready to go, have 1000L being processed and a holding tank for another 1000L of finished product. It was quite a setup but we still put it together for next to nothing and it produced top notch Bio. All the oil was of course heated with Waste oil burners. Never put a heating element in the system.

I think I have come across quite a few whiny skirt clingers in the interest in that time. Some of the attitudes and mindsets have been amazing but none more than the obsession they have with making simple and straightforward things as complicated, expensive and prone to failure as possible. Leaving well enough alone and going with what works and nothing more seems to be an unfathomable thing to a lot of people.

    + Oil Burner As you use waste veg oil in your burners, and you make bio, would it be worth the trouble of converting veg to bio to burn in a small aluminium foundry furnace? Have you tried bio in a burner? Could we see that in a vid? Maybe with a side by side shootout between similar burners?

    +Zed Showsyouhow unfortunately there would be no point in spending the time and money to make bio for a burner of this kind. The energy Content is the same and there are no other benefits of bio over Veg in this case. I have tried bio in burners, it is indistinguishable from WVO. How would you suggest the comparison of burners be measured or are you just meaning Visually?

    And not a bad thought either and something I used to do. My veg oil sources are pretty good now and pumping from the top of a drum means the larger stuff has settled to the bottom or floating on the top. in between the contaminants are quite fine and would go straight through. Chunky stuff doesn't block much actualy anyway. It's the real small fine stuff that blocks things up like filters. I used to collect oil that I would suck up vermin and table napkins. Thankfully I have sussed better sources these days.

    Nice... Playing around with the burner i made with your design and it really is the shit. When its running our quiet neighborhood sounds like an airport :-) I think its best i tone it down a bit. I thought about burying it. Anyways got side tracked building a different burner for a smaller furnace design and much less heat output. Its not as manly as yours but should keep the neighbors clueless. The one im building is the kwiky oil burner design from David D on youtube have you ever tried anything similar to this? Its way less radical and a bit more work but a smaller output could be useful for some things you do?

  • @glumpy10

    @glumpy10

    builtrodewreckedit The spray design burners are popular but require compressed air to operate. If used with diesel or thinned oil, they do have the advantage of not needing a preheat. To me the tradeoff of the extra complexity and need for a compressor, even though I have a large one, does not outweigh the no preheat. Starting my burners on LPG I can have them up and running in 2 Min and that is sufficient for my needs. The Compressed air types are also limited to sane and practical heat outputs which kind of undermines my whole irrational enjoyment of these things. :0) Wait till you see the next vid I shot today! Biggest, wildest burn ever! For me the simple drip type burners work fine although other people may prefer the other type and design. No right or wrong, just what you prefer. I do Intend to get round to doing my own spray design one day just to show I can do it! :0)

    Oil Burner Hey brother. How's things?? Good here. Finally getting somewhere with my back shop.. I have a question for you. I know you are a very resourceful guy and figure you may even already have the item I am thinking of converting. In the States we call them Salamander's. They are a forced air and kerosene heater. They come in many sizes and of course a fairly thick price in many cases. But these units have their own tank, oil pump and ignition along with a concave flash header just at the face or working end of the heater.. I have always wanted to try to convert one to veggie or used motor oil and see if it is worthy of a more controlled heat as the original heater is designed.. I know your ideas are for barn burners and have that same like for watching how fast you can smelt things down. I think there IS a place for all of it myself.. I think if it works, the next thing is either converting the heater to a 12V. system for the woods/off grid/solar/battery, but for now I think maybe an inverter would be ok.. Thoughts??????

  • @builtrodewreckedit

    @builtrodewreckedit

    9 жыл бұрын

    If the salamander runs on diesel id bet you could mix 2 gal of motor oil with 1 gal of regular unleaded gasoline to make a mixture that burns just like diesel..... I personally dont think it would be a good idea because used motor oil is full of other contaminates that would be in the air when its burned. Atleast not a good idea to heat any aria not well vented

  • @glumpy10

    @glumpy10

    Steve 1961P. I think there is a fuel control on those things that you would have to adjust to get the right fuel to air ratio. You may want to try starting off with 50% Diesel and work from there. If you could get Kerosene or even old jet fuel from a maintenance hangar ( they are not allowed to put it back in once taken out) that would be better to thin the oil than diesel. I agree that I would shy away from engine oil. I would have used it once till a mate pointed out what's in it. It's not what comes out of the engine you have to be worried about because that's all common metals you eat and drink out of anyway. It's the additives that are in the oil from the start. Veg is much less toxic and I would prefer to use that myself. It would be good to see how one of those went because I agree with you, stupid output burners are all fun and games but practical applications are where the real benefits of this are.

    Oil Burner Needing a compressor for such a small volume of air always put me off too. a small wiff of smoke won't draw too much attention to what im doing but i had everyone in a 1/4 mile aria wondering what the hell the rumbling noise was :-) I think burying the bottle and shooting the flame into a hole would help the noise allot or maybe i use a smaller bottle or pipe and make another? But being at work i have plenty of air and the spray nozzle is fun to tinker with... cant wait to see what you come up with next

    I drive on WVO almost a 15 years. So you need to pre filter better your oil. Put a two or three sheets instead of one. When you're done with pre filtering, on the second filtering when you are finish just add a little RUG on the top of your oil. After 2-3 days slug from WVO will sink on the bottom, drain that slug and you have clear WVO like new oil. Here in the Sweden winter its very cold -30 -35 C so i need very clean WVO.
