The candle flames seem to represent lives, and as he kills the knights, candles lose their flames. But at the end, something tries to blow out the last candle, but the flame doesn't go out, and it transitions to that flame being in Blade's eye, representing his immortality. You guessed right, Blade is physically unable to die. Also, the red flowers shown throughout the trailer are red spider lilies. They are closely associated with death, as well as loss and abandonment. It's ironic that the man who can't die has a theme of flowers associated with death. We don't know much about his history yet, but we know that he's seeking revenge against the man who stabs him in this trailer. It hasn't really been explained yet what happened between those two.

Most likely Dan Heng(Yes that's the name of the character that uses the spear) in his past life gave Blade immortality. In the story, the race that he is a part of(Vidyhara) are basically dragons with pretty cool powers and one of the characters(Bailu) is a very good healer with a revive mechanic. Its stated that she does not have the full power even though she is a elder and thats why she is a child but Dan Heng(spoiler) is one the past elders who still retains most of his powers. So if a weaker deprived version can revive a character(this is only in gameplay and not really seen in a cutscene) then a more powerful and mature version in the past where they were at their full power should be able to give someone immortality like Blade over here. Also he is mara struck(one of his voice lines states that when his mara come up you should stay back) so Dan Heng could've just given him a boat load of abundance juice.

The instrument is a suona and the reason it is so prominent at both weddings and funerals is because it can be heard over everything else. It is incredibly loud! That trilling noise is meant to mimic birdsong and as high and frantic as it gets at the most energetic part of the trailer it's easy to interpret it as a creature that is dying ... which is exactly what Blade wants to do but can't. That it happens at the same moment of a flash back to when he was stabbed by Dan Heng, for all intents and purposes that is in many regards the moment that whoever the old Blade was 'died' and this sociopath was born. There's a lot of deep symbolism to read through the lines with this trailer!

In Honkai Star Rail, immortality is a curse. As you life goes on and on, you are physically unable to remember most of your life. After eons, for the most part, only the most memorable of memories remain...the most traumatic ones. Inevitably, when immortals reflect on their lives, they are driven mad by the loss and pain that's accumulated over all that time. This affliction is known as the "mara", and those who succumb to the madness are known as "mara-struck." Blade is different from most immortals. Most immortals are only unable to die a natural death, but they can be killed (and have to be killed after they are struck by the mara). Blade is unable even to be killed. This means that many of the memories that Blade still has are just memories of his own brutal, painful "deaths." Luckily for Blade, an ally of his (Kafka) has some ability to control minds and uses it to manually suppress his madness to some extent (by either suppressing his emotions or his memories). He can and does still often succumb to the madness of the mara-struck, especially during fights (where he is likely to experience...and thus remember...more pain and death), as you can see in the trailer. He seems to blame his condition on the person he is fighting (Dan Heng), but the details of what happened here are still unclear. (Did Dan Heng somehow make Blade truly unkillable? If so, how did that work?) So, he wants vengeance on Dan Heng, but even more than that he just wants his own candle to flicker out.

Backtracked all your HSR trailer react vids after watching your Kafka one, and it's just so amazing how, with just you watching the trailers, you managed to get at the essence of a character. Especially at the last part in the vid where you commented that as the candle goes out Blade suppresses his feelings since the battle is over, and it was at that moment that something clicked to me about Blade's character. Fun (or not so, depends really) fact about Blade, long ago he was actually friends with Jing Yuan, Jing Liu(the name of JY's master), Dan Heng(the green guy apparition Blade was fighting in the vid) and one other person. Now, during those times something happened that made him affected by Mara. The Mara is a "Long-Life Curse" that ends up with you going insane but makes you strong and almost immortal. Blade, being afflicted by this curse, made this his way of fighting style. With the help of Kafka, who has that mental control ability, he can suppress or release that curse and use it when it's time to fight. And it's fascinating how that part was in the trailer by the use of the candle imagery. It made me realize that I need to look deeper when it comes to trailers, since there are really A Lot of information that is given in just those 1 to 2 minutes of videos. My mind is totally blown! And the way they get linked into the game-lore is just amazing and fascinating.

The orange is important because it seems to signify "Mara." Being "Mara-struck" is what they call when an immortal (there are 5 planet-sized ships of immortal people) becomes too overwhelmed by their long life and memories and becomes corrupted, oftentimes fully transforming into a monster. Blade's Mara is kept at bay by Kafka because she has the power to control through her voice.

I absolutely love this trailer. Especially details like the flowers (Red spider lilies if not mistaken, closely connected to death, just like Blade is), and the candles going out when he takes a life. The animation is stunning and the music is amazing like always. And cannot forget the voice actor, totally nailed it, especially the laugh. I am glad I pulled for Blade, definitely one of my favourites.

The flower is chrysanthemum. (Google Chinese chrysanthemum). It is a flower that symbolises vitality in Chinese culture and funny enough used in funerals. The instrument played here (and candles of course) are all associated with funerals.

@@zeth479 Chinese chrysanthemum doesnt seem particularly accurate though. The flower also represents happiness and longevity which would be an extremely ironic meaning. Also, common funeral flowers are white lilies and white chrysanthemums, not red. Looking at the flowers close, side by side, it’s clearly a red spider lily as it’s known as the corpse flower, representative of lost or sad memories and regret. Also, red Chrysanthemums means love and passion which uh,l does not fit at all

Blade is a facinating character and they really go all out with this trailer. He's part of the Stellaron Hunters, one of the enemy factions in the story, since he's immortal and Mara-struck, a affliction his species has when they get to many negative memories over the centuries, only Kafka with her wisper power can keep him sane, or unleash him. Gameplay wise he uses his own health to enhance his damage and do alot of damage, allowing him to do a big counterattack or do that ultimate u see in the trailer. I have him and he's a blast to play with, his lines are also very dark, like saying he does't need healing when u heal him or how he never gets to see heaven when he does his ultimate.

A month late, but from 0:57-1:07 is my favorite section in the whole trailer. In my opinion, it gives a subversion to the entire rest of the trailer. It’s a peaceful moment in an otherwise violent and intense trailer. It feels like it’s meat to represent the one thing Blade wants more than anything: peace. He’s immortal and in constant pain, and all he wants is the peace that death would otherwise grant him. Especially fitting that his biggest motif, besides his namesake, is the Lycoris Radiata AKA the Red Spider Lily AKA the Death Flower. I also believe that the final shot with the candle that doesn’t go out is supposed to represent him, and all the other candles are the lives he’s taken.

I'm late to this and idk if anyone mentioned it, but the spider lily is considered very symbolic in many cultures, from death to guidance in reincarnation to flowers of hell. Very fitting of Blade. The dragging of his blade and the red, along with the blooming flowers, makes me think of all the blood he's shed with his sword and the death he's caused.

It's just so beautiful to me that at the end of his trailer, all candles go out except one. The one candle still being lit is such a nice symbolism imo. Sadly, it represents his immortality and inability to find peace in the form of death. All the candles going out throughout the trailer supposedly represent the lives he's taken while at the end, only he remains along with the last candle that doesn't go out because it represents him.
