Marketing strategies are typically defined by two factors: budget and audience. The size of a budget will tell a marketing team how expansive their approach can be. Studio films’ marketing looks very different from marketing for a tiny indie.
Understanding your audience is crucial. Edwards explains how marketers determine a potential audience for a film, touching on terms like the four quadrants and primary, secondary, and tertiary audiences. Whatever the size of your marketing campaign, you’ll want to do heaps of research.
Independent film marketing can be hard, but the juice is worth the squeeze. Market your movie smartly, and the returns can be exponential.
