I'm a 70s baby born in Oakland. But I remember going over to Fillmore in the 80s and early 90s. It was a lot more violent then, and you really had to move a certain way. Now except for a few areas is mostly gentrified and super expensive to live there. Another example in the long line of great black neighborhoods that fell into decline and eventually got gentrified out of existence.

There's a great article on the evolution of the neighborhood (that you won't read) but there was a disastrous "redevelopment" plan that had catastrophic results. By the time the 80s hit, it was horrible.

This is why I hang out with my uncles on Friday nights...to hear good stories like this.

He said "I'm Filmore Slim, Snoop Dogg making a movie about me" I was "hmm oh ok" lol I was thinking he might be a crazy tbh Then he asked me to help him take groceries out the trunk & bring them to his son apartment. I did it just cause I don't mind helping out the elderly. I grabbed most the bags except 2. He was like "man my back messed up can you grab the other 2 bags for me to" I was like WOWW, but I did it. We walked way to the other side of the apartment building to his son's house (FAR AS SHIT) . I was about to put them next to the front door when we got there but he was like "wait hold up young blood" he unlocks the door then tells me to put them on the kitchen counter, once again I'm thinking WOW REALLY? lol. So I do it, Then he handed me a a CD with his face on it & signed it for me. I'm thinking in my head "lmao nigga what are you doinnnng???" So I leave and looked him up on google later that night & realized this nigga just pimped me into carrying his bags all the way to his house. I was laughing at myself like woooowww!
