Filling The Grain Bins
Normally all of our corn is harvested for silage and earlage, but this year we have an overabundance of corn! So we have decided it would be good idea to combine some dry corn and put it in the grain bins. Kevin walks you through our setup.
Plus, we show you some of the improvements that we've made to our heifer barn.
Thanks for watching!

Hello happy farmers. The lifestock are looking good and those young ones are so cute. We enjoyed Kevin's tore of the grain bins. He speaks our language nice and slow. And that's good then we know what he's on about. Thank you.
To all farmers. Across America thank you for growing our food also very nice corn bin setup corn storage
Great video Kevin and Ronda
I always love it when kevin talks. He seems like the typical farmer "man of little words" but has alot of value in the words he shares. I could listen to him explain farming management for hours. Thanks for the video and god bless
Great bin set up Kevin
Interesting insight about a family farm.
Kevin, again, I am impressed with your ingenuity. Your dryer is an example. Thank you for sharing the video with us.
Very interesting we enjoy seeing the operations of your farm.
Wow! That's some system ......nice job 👍
Thanks for the video. It is always nice to see your cows.
Years ago when I was working on my uncle's farm, my Cousin Kim came to visit for one day. While I was waiting for lunch, I got chatting with my cousin. . . . He started talking to me. He was about 5 years old. He called me uncle. He commented, "Uncle Ron, I know which one is the bull." Of course I had to pursue that comment. . . . so how do you tell? . . . Kim replied, "He's the one with the horns." . . . so I quickly scanned the small herd in the corral. Kim was right. . . . Kim left this earth early because of leukemia. It was just the start of the Pandemic. His memorial service was Live Streamed as only 50 people were allowed in the church. I later told his wife about the story. She got a kick out of it.

Great video, Kevin and Rhonda. Thanks for Explaining how the Bins work on the Farm. 👍🙏
👍👍 very good explanations. I like how most everything was built from the ground up with your own hands
Thanks Kevin for showing us that the grain bins are being used and how you operate them. Ronda the cowtongue short is hilarious. Sent it to my brother who had a Jersey dairy. He said Jersey cows do that. Good to see you keep improving the handling of the livestock. God bless you all richly.
Beautiful golden corn, keeps America going.
Doing beans and corn at the same site, I was always sooo paranoid of the consignor being in the wrong position and mixing the two together, never happened but.... fun times! Thanks for the tour!
I can only imagine having to take one of those Grain bins apart a million nuts and bolts I always like when Kevin explains the process he’s has a calming effect for the task at hand
It must be nice to see all your hard labor and improvements pay off. Make your job easier I hope too!! Great job folks 👍🙏🇺🇸
Waste not, want not , nothing goes to waste on this farm 👍

Thanks for sharing, Southwest, Va.
Very informative, thank you! Nice tour!
There's a lot of things to know when storing the corn, Kevin sure knows his stuff. I think the Jersey heifer's are so adorable, we don't have one, but if we were younger we might. Enjoyed learning about your corn storage and dryer setup. Thanks for sharing, I hope your family has a great Sunday and joyful Thanksgiving.

Great video on the bins.. I remember when one of our bins was being constructed, my younger friend was messing around. His dad told him to stand in the corner!! We got a laugh out of that for years after. We bed our cows on inch thick rubber mats, they get a sprinkle of hydrated lime twice a day after they get brushed by a ride on machine. Thanks Rhonda and Kevin keep on farming 🇮🇪
Great stuff ! Wonderful Christian Family !! Rhonda and Kevin, thank you all so much for sharing your journey !! Thanks Kevin for your explanation of your storage area !! Very interesting !! Also enjoyed the calf to cow explanation Rhonda!! You all be careful and I pray God's continued blessings on you!!! Eddy
Rhonda, Very Kool video on the tech stuff that goes on with your harvest, Thanks to Kevin.
Beautiful set up Kevin, love the calf's and pens love you all ❤❤❤❤
Very interesting and informative video....Great job on this...GOD Bless
Thanks 4 video.
Sand is better for bedding, being inorganic. But it's not great for the cleaning equipment unless you are set up for reclaiming it. Great video Rhonda & Kevin. Y'all have a nice set up. Have a great Thanksgiving, and be safe.

Such a relaxing video, no one getting stuck in the mud. Getting and storing corn this time of year should be a bit easier on the pocketbook compared to when you purchased some this past spring. Have a blessed and grace filled Thanksgiving.

A great video. Thanks for showing us around your farm it helps me to remember the times in my young life working at my grandmother’s dairy farm in Kentucky. There was a lot of work to do running the farm taking care of livestock is a full-time and a half job. Your work seems like it is never done.
There is so many parts to a dairy farm. It definitely keeps a family busy especially when you loose a couple kids.
thanks for the tour nice operation
You had me at animals ❤😊
Thanks for sharing you information
I always made sure to de-horn the calves, on schedule with the vaccination’s, removing the extra Tits, Nasalgen, Branding and horn removal!! I just hate heifers with horns!! Also, I preferred to scoop the horn buds rather than burning! That way I was pretty sure of a good job!!
Very interesting video!!!
Thanks Kevin and Rhonda for another very interesting and informative video very well presented your dryer and bin storage facility appears to be a very efficient and cost-effective way to do what you need to do until next time God bless you all.
beautiful video bravi
Hi Kevin and Ronda beautiful video love how you explain bin and little calves and as always you and you’re families be safe 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Thank You for the tour of your grain facility. Kevin called the red stuff, Bees Wings. We also called it Red Dog. Those are about the only two terms I have heard it called. We have seen some of your relatives Ronda. It would be nice to see some of Kevin's relatives sometime. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Rhonda -- Interesting video. I like your grain bit setup. Most of the other dairy channels I watch use sand to bed their free stalls and only one uses sawdust. Sand is actually supposed to be healthier and cows bedded on sand have significantly less mastitis than cows bedded on sawdust. So it's a good thing that sand is plentiful in your area. Take care.
@acresofclayhomestead

Yes, we never bed the cows with sawdust for that very reason.

@@acresofclayhomestead -- I guess I was confused then because it sounded like Kevin was saying that he was using sawdust until it became hard to get and expensive if you could get it. At any rate, at least you are using sand now. Oh, BTW, do you think maybe you could do a video on Kevin trimming the cow's hooves? Thank you, Rhonda. Take care.

thank kevin for the explanations great to know the different parts of the farm, how many calves on average do you get daily? there is a local man who runs two tandem dumps for sand far bedding to the big farms and keeps very busy

Average is about 1 a day
We have chicken houses (over 200,000 birds🐓) we bed with peanut hauls and sometimes it’s hard to get and they have gone up in price in the last year too!

How is Sidney doing on his worldly travels? Wow, I did not know you had big grain bins. Been watching your Channell for years. Watching your family is less stressful than watching the Lions. I have a sense you don't like to show it, I understand. It doesn't hurt to ask, how many Deer has Ethan bagged this year?
@acresofclayhomestead
8 ай бұрын
Sydney made it home, and he is still recovering from jetlag. Ethan hasn't gotten a deer yet.
You sure do have a lot of replacement heifers. Do you cull some of them? You have probably said but how many are you milking? You are lucky to have dryer handy.
@acresofclayhomestead

We don't cull heifers
You should be using motor starters
So the neighbors combine your corn for you also?
Is that the same grain cart that you fixed up?
The small calf looked like it's short horn or long horn. Is the dryer on your farm or close by?

Our wet corn has become much cheaper this year. Approximately $80-100 per tonne depends on humidity. The drier it is, the closer it is to 100. And drying here costs half the value of corn. Dry corn can be purchased for $180 per ton. The only plus is that the corn produced well this year.
I was the one who said about mckenzie being a cow. And about being like other people
How do the free stalls work if you don't mind me asking such a dumb question.
@acresofclayhomestead
7 ай бұрын
Free stalls are dividers so that cows lays straight in the stalls, making the most of the room.
every winter my great grand dad would have me strip and paint all the farm equipment after washing it............ sand on mats or not?
