Great vid...I like that you actually stated how much oil each reservoir takes, and that the gears are constantly bathed in lubricant. In most propeller drives, you can hear the gears making a low growling noise as they're turning...did replacing grease with gear oil quiet that down any? Subbed, Stay Safe!

So I tried adding the amounts you mentioned but was maybe 1/3 quarts and it was getting full full. How full do you get it? I’m a mechanic and most front and rear diff gears on trucks are about half submerged in the oil. Is there noticeable resistance when pedaling? I feel that I want to take some out so it’s got the air pocket in there for oil movement and might make the system spin more freely?
@keithfoco

@Tanner_Johnson it's been a while so I don't remember exactly, but it took about the same. Pedals easy. There is a bit of air in there also. I don't own the kayak any longer, so I cannot go back and confirm. I got a perception showdown 11.5 last June and I did the same to the pilot drive and it has been nice. Helped smooth it out and make it quieter. After a year of good use, I have zero problems.

@@keithfoco did you notice any more resistance to the pedals because of the oil in there? Not meaning smoother but firmer to rotate cause it’s moving oil now? Just curious. Mine is full of oil not but seemed like it took slightly more effort to turn now. Haven’t had it on the water yet.

Any tips on assembly and fish finder placement and wiring ?
@keithfoco
Жыл бұрын
@@medic2922 yes! If you have a standard-sized transducer, it easily fits in the slot under the hull with the bracket that came with your fish finder. I ran the cable up through the nearest skupper hole. I have a small lithium battery that I keep in the front compartment. I just run the cables into that compartment. You just have to make sure your cables stay outside of the pedal arc. I just run my cables through the anchor rope and it keeps them out of the way perfectly. If you want to get fancy, you van buy connectors that run through the hull/deck of the boat. You can find a lot of different options on Amazon, or at your local paddling store. This is the best method but requires some cabke cutting and wire terminal crimping that you may need to learn how to do or pay someone to do it for you. When I get a kayak I am planning on keeping forever, I will do this. I may not keep the tempest because I am looking for a lighter, smaller kayak at the moment. Who knows? I may keep it. Just haven't decided.

I may issues with my o-rings. I did as the video shows. and I have oil leaking out of the pedal assembly hub. The one taken off to get at the gears(left side). Oddly, the propeller gears DO NOT leak. I want to go back to grease. Would that hurt anything?

You may have a bad seal on the axle. If that is the case, you could see if hoodoo will get you a new side seal or remove the lubricant and go back to grease.

I am not really sure. You might be able to make.a spanner wrench that could work. There is a little flimsy one at harbor freight that I initially got for it. It worked but was squirrely and the pins were very loose. It was cheap, like $8.
