Love seeing the old GT's being given a new life, those bikes were something special. I have owned several early '90's GT's starting with the Timberline in dark green as I was on a very tight budget but it was a worthy bike for my commute to work until it got stolen. Then I got the red GT Pantera Al, another Timberline to replace my stolen Pantera AL and then The GT Zaskar LE (with Pace RC 35's ) . some years later in 2001 -2002 I bough a GT iDrive 6.0 (red) and later a GT iDrive 4.0, which along with my Pantera Al and Zaskar LE were my favourite GT bikes. I am looking to buy another GT again soon to build up as a MTB/BMX hybrid.

Lovely GT. I have two in my bike-barn as well:a '97 Ricochet and a '98 Zaskar LE. They are a testament to the pioneers in MTB engineering and build quality. Of all my bikes, those 2 will not leave my collection. Thx for sharing!

I got an Schwinn Aluminum Comp last year and I just finished a complete rebuild on the bike to make it more user friendly to me. It was a lot of work from this beginner bike mechanic but it was so worth it and I would do it again. so the moral of this story is that when you find a bike that you love it then becomes a labor of love and all you want to do is continue to make it a better bike again and again.

Wonderful! Like the originality to it, especially seeing the XT cassette going back on. I have the aluminium version of the holy trinity, the Zaskar. As pretty as she looks, I’m always worried about the old lightweight aluminium frame so she won’t get to see the trails like the Cyclone did here! Steel is real 🤙

I always wanted a GT Psyclone. It is a dream bike for me. It's hard to even find a Karakoram these days. I had a '95 Tequesta which was pretty good too before the chain derailled in between the spokes and cassette pulling the derailleur hanger all the way up.

I’ve got a mid 90’s Klein Adroit similarly spek’d that I’m currently restoring, full XTR, JUDY forks, Selle Italia Flite saddle. Absolutely stunning paint job and the frame is dent free. Same issue with narrow bars but they’re authentic. It’s a blast to ride and I added some red Ritchey SPD pedals. Nice rare GT…..thank you for restoring it and not single speeding it like a lot of guys do on here.

Another nice restoration, as usual. I think the bike turned out nice. It is always fun to go back and work on a bike like that and let it evolve into a creative process. Last year I adopted 3 vintage bikes. I did a lot of work on all of them. And I'm still changing little things here and there. Vintage bikes are all I really wish to own and ride at this point.

First bike I built was a GT and I tried to put the bottom bracket in backwards. Luckily they got it out and installed it for me. I built a headset tool out of some thread rod and boards and the rest was pretty easy except cutting the cables and hoses. Ended up buying a cutter for that stuff. I think it's been at least 25 years since I did a complete bike build now.

Rob, another great video. The background music you and Toasty Rides use for your videos is spot on for vintage bike builds. You don't need fast pace head bashing music to go with precision cleaning and assembly. The custom GT's you mention are awesome bikes if you are lucky enough to find one in steel or titanium. Your decision to keep period (vintage) componets is a good one along with improving the fad parts of the period, the ridiculously narrow handle bars, and long, low angle stem. You stated you would be on the search for higher quality parts of the period to swap with the originals. I understand that statement. Your audience should also understand your KZread channel is a business. The time and effort to make the videos isn't free. Endorsement of sponsors in order to recoup cost and/or make some income is part of the process. As a volunteer at two of the Bicycle Collective locations I enjoy your channel. It provides entertainment and education. It gives me ideas for my own builds or the ones I do for the Collective.

I'm working on a smoked salmon pink Tequesta currently, and am debating on going 1X in the front. For the trails it would ride on, and around town, the big and small chain rings don't get used much anyway.

No. That was a total bone-headed move. Now whoever rides that bike won't be able to stop. All cantilever brakes are garbage, especially ones with that Shimano straddle cable thing. Would you ride that bike with tires that were made in 1991? No. We should not ride bikes with cantilever brakes either.

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzread.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

I guess it’s time to show one. Sometimes on builds I don’t fully know the status or need for a fork until I have it on a bike ready to ride. On older forks I’m hesitant if it’s working well to open them up as older parts and seals are not always available. Some forks I have serviced without filming like the gen 1 SID I put on my Brodie (I actually rebuilt it quite a while back without even having a build for it in mind yet).

I don't get the tires on this build. They are way too new and also pretty ugly. Either period correct Panaracers or Tioga or Ritchey, even Michelin, or something modern =with more air volume. Wheels are also pretty basic, even if I appreciate the Bontrager BCX rims. A good wheelset with Parallax hubs and Mavic rims can't be too expensive. Otherwise, really nice. Cheers.

I usually like your builds but what in the world did you put a red wall tire on the front and a Grey wall on the back? Makes it look thrown together.

You weren’t a fan of a decision made by an artist while creating his artwork? Good thing there are no rules when it comes to art, right Steve?

Love the Redwall tire, I actually paused the video and Google the tire so I can order one.

Well... I suppose there are people who like these older hardtails. Imagine of everyone wanted one.... Imagine how hard it would be to find one for a reasonable price.... So yeah.... I suppose this stuff is OK for Boomers, but I bet all the young folk want the latest carbon, hi-tech, hydraulic-disc whizzbang stuff. Seriously.... Stop putting out these videos. People are going to buy up all the older Kona, GT and Fischer frames! Do we want that? Do we? 😂
