What is the metal ball on the floor at the beginning of the video for and how is it attached to the auger, thanks.

The ball does not actually attach to the auger, it just sits on top of the auger in the lower boot. The ball is used to agitate the feed in the lower boot to help break up clumps of feed and reduce feed bridging.

With one I just connected we left some slack at the end, and the motor seems to turn the auger in pulses, if we have the auger tight will it run continuously?

A pulsating, irregular running auger is typically a sign of a kink or bend in the auger, or a restricted area between the outside of the auger and the inside of the tube. But this can also be caused by having too much auger in the tube as well. To troubleshoot: 1. Verify the auger is straight and kink-free by removing and inspecting the auger. Replace if bent. 2. Verify the auger has the proper stretch. The proper stretch for the auger is 2" for every 50' of auger. 3. Contact your local dealer if the issue continues.

So we just purchased an augur and saw a ball. do I put the ball in the hull where the motor connects to the augur? wouldn't that restrict flow?

The ball should sit on top of the auger inside the lower boot. It's there to break up clumps of feed and help with bridging, and you shouldn't see any feed restriction from its use.
