the song is about the history 9f the island of Panay 900 years ago. refugees from Borneo was fleeing and found thrmselves in the Panay Island. They met the dark skinned negrito race population known as Ati. The Ati welcomef the strangers with open arms and sold their part of the island for a golden conical hat and 2 other precious items. This history is being memorialized in various ways including the festival of ati atihan which literally means dressing up like the Atis, where people apply black sooth and coals on their skin, to make themselves colored black, and dance. The story is immortalized in this song. So this song is very ancient

At this time, Spanish Priests and traders gives an image of the Sto. Nino or Holy Child Jesus to the Ati's as a symblo of friendship and goodwill to a Datu's wife. This also marks beginning of Christianity to the Philippines... And every year we have celebretion called Ati Atihan in the island of palawan.

"Kruhay" means "Long Live!" in Kinaray-a, a language native to Panay Island in central Philippines. The song, based on a folk-tale, narrates the arrival of 10 Bornean datus exiled by their ruler, Sultan Makatunaw. They reached the shores of Antique in balangays (boats) and brought saduk (wide-brimmed hat) and kulintas (necklace) which they bartered with the indigenous Ati. This ethnic composition by Antiqueno musician Benny F. Castillon has been performed in some of the biggest choral competitions worldwide and often accompanied by tultog, a traditional ethnic bamboo percussion. Proud Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a here

I am proud to translate this chorale masterpiece of our very own Antiqueno composer Benny Castillon. I looked for the lyrics of this piece but to no avail. I used my listening skills in this video in order to obtain the exact lyrics, the way we pronounced it our native dialect. This masterpiece is the story of 10 Bornean datus exiled by their ruthless ruler Sultan Makatunaw in far away Borneo (13th century). As a counterpart of Ramayana and Bhagavadgita of India, this epic tale is Maragtas, the longest folk tale in the Philippines. As much as I want to use the rhyme to translate it in English but I can’t afford it anymore. Here it goes: Kruhaay, kruhaay Aaahhh, aaahhh Dum dum... * Buhay ron nga mga dinag-un (It was for so long years), sa isara kabay-bayun (in this one solitary shore), sa lawud may naga panong (in this shore there’s a flock), baruto kang mga dumuro-ong (ship/boat [probably balangays- are boat where the word barangay came from] of some visitors). Aaah.... *Nagdung-ka ang taga Bornay (the Borneans moored), nagsinadya ang mga Ati (and the native Atis were ecstatic), anda nga gin haladan (they offered some gifts of welcome), kang bahul nga kasadyahan (of big revelry). Dum dum dum aaaahhhh....tak tak tak Kruhaay kruhaay (effects here) *Ginbaylo kang mga ati ang anda nga puruy-an (The Atis bartered their homeland). Ang Panay sa sangka saduk kag kulintas nga bulawan (with larged-brimmed hat [salakot] and feet long necklace[manangyad] made of gold), kag sanda nagsararaka sa mga kabukidan (after that, the Atis went to the backwoods/boondocks) kag ang mga dumulu-ong sa kapatagan sanda nagpuyo (and let the Borneans live in the flatlands)! Kruhaay kruhaay ~End~

Edit: This song is uncommon since a traditional song from antique, it tells about how a malayan peope discover the Panay Island, and gave the "golden sadok (hat)" to the Aeta tribe leader, a payment for the land, like the Malayan people is buying the Island, a literal translition to the lyrics, "Ginabaylo sang mga Ati ang balay nila sa isa ka sadok"

Gosh they gave me chills. Awesome performance! I can even understand the words they are singing like it is natural for them considering it is not their native language. They gave justice to tenfold of vocal layers. I wonder how they found out this ancient Filipino folktale, Maragtas and this song, Kruhay.
