Yes we Filipino were not accustomed to wear formal tuxedo during funerals. Wearing black or white shirt is enough. The important thing is we gather all the family, relatives and friends for the wake.

I read their child’s reply somewhere. Apparently tatay (we call old man as a sign of respect) is a seafarer, capt. He was onboard when his wife died and only got to see her on the 3rd day aftr she dies after he got repatriated and her remains was brought to her hometown. Then he sang her the song right after . Its the wake. Not funeral
"He is a ship captain who arrived 3 days after his wife died. The one filming the video is his son. They asked everyone at the wake to step out of the funeral home so he can have personal time with his wife, his son and daughter, that is when he sang his heart out and his son filmed it."

This Filipino guy was really brave to sing in front of his wife's funeral. Also, your wife is correct, in our culture(Philippines)during funeral,we don't need to wear a tuxedo or Filipino national clothes, what's important to us is the presence and the sympathy of the people. I cried as well because of your wife💙

As a Roman Catholic in the Philippines, we only wear formal clothes in church during burial mass. It is alright for us to wear casual clothes during wakes.

@@Killermcknight this was a wake/viewing, judging by the background I think it's at home or at a funeral home. In funeral, we wear white or black.
My 81 year old father sang to my mom at her funeral here in California. He sang in our Ilocano dialect the song he wrote about her. It was a surprise to us, the family, but glad that he mustered the strength to do it. I remember him singing that song to her when she was still in the hospital and maybe in a few other occasions. I just wish that my American friends at the funeral understood the lyrics of the song because it was a beautiful tribute to her. 2 years later, Dad passed on and I can imagine them singing together in heaven.

Filipinos are very spiritual and family oriented people. This does not surprise me. As a expat who lives in the Philippines, and I proudly call it my home. The filipino people are generally the kindest people and most respectful as well. Beautiful tribute.

This man singing for his dear late wife happened during the viewing not on the day of the funeral like judging what the husband wears he just arrived from overseas because he was a ship captain. A lot of reactors from YT asked why the husband isn't wearing a formal attire ie. tuxedo or Filipino national dress for men. This is heartbreaking to watch knowing a family man like this working overseas away from his family and then going home only to find out his wife passed away!

According to the story, this man is a seafarer. Wife fell ill while he was away. He was waiting to come home to her, but she did not make it. She was unable to wait for him. She died without him there. This is his final tribute to her whom he loved so much. He held it all in according to the relatives. RIP to her. Truly sad yet amazing all the same. May God's grace guide him and may her soul rest in peace.
I thought i'm brave enough to watch this but then my eyes begun watery and tears fell in my cheeks unknowingly..this rendition of this song hits so hard due the way he sings...its like every words cuts through the hearts of anyone who hears it...we can feel what he feels...what a great singer indeed

I can feel his pain.. I cried 😢
I have read from other comments: this man works overseas like in a ship, and went back home for his wife's funeral. He asked all the visitors, friends, etc to leave the room for a short moment for his privacy,so to sing a song for his wife for the last time in this lifetime. The one recording was his son.
ohhhh that love is shaking the whole world, making the world to love more, telling the world to love your spouses..my salute ♥
Hard to sing when the tears is flowing down from the eyes and remained composed and finished it.
we sometimes do that at a funeral here in the Philippines. Music plays a big role in our culture and most Filipinos know how to sing. It's in our blood and culture when we are courting a woman, we call it "Harana", on special occasions, worshipping in church, even in times of sorrow, etc... It's how we Filipinos express our emotions through singing.
Singing his pain and loss. I’m in tears and proud to be a Filipino.
the hardest way to sing is by fighting for your emotions while singing its physically tearing you inside while singing in perfection.
It's a wake. Usually, in the Philippines, we don't dress up formally until the funeral day. Also, given our tropical climate, for practicality, we just wear the most respectable and comfortable funeral clothes we have.
This is so heartbreaking..my mom cries everytime she watches this over and over again…true love does exist❤😢
The guy(husband) was a ship captain and in these scene he just arrived in the wake from outside the country as you noticed there was nobody around because he requested for private moment with his late wife.
My tears fell just after hearing ‘how do you heal a broken heart…’ gosh.. so heartbreaking, yet i could feel the guy’s love for his wife❤️
We Filipinos convey our feelings through singing, even in the event in our times of our loved one's funeral. We are not dressed in tuxedos; just comfortable clothes will do. Besides, this is not getting views on social media because it differs from how we mourn. I really cried my heart out. It is a fact of life that we all must endure and experience. Condolence to his family.
This man was an Overseas Filipino Worker(OFW).. a ship captain(intl).. and this was his private moment with his wife during the wake as soon as he arrived… coming home with your spouse in a coffin or your son or a daughter or even your parent is the most painful thing for an OFW.. BTW.. the Philippines is a tropical country thats why we don’t wear tuxedos.. we just dress up decently most of he times the relatives are in white simple clothing. I know what you are saying about maybe hired singers in a funeral? Its not common among filipinos although i heard it is among Chinese culture .. This went viral because this husband was so brave to show his grief in front of his wife’s wake… most filipino men will just be silent holding back their grief.. even their tears are not so much shown in public thats why this recording was in private and maybe the one who recorded it was the one who uploaded it on youtube😢😢😢

Best reaction ever. You're both pure love, the tears show it. If only more people were lucky to find as much love that binds you two. I don't think any expression of gratitude would make up for the pain you had to endure just to bear yourself open to the world.

I cry my heart out seeing this wonderful man That's endearing I can't control my emotion My tears flow down
Cried like a river whenever i watch this vid. Yes, we Filipinos are so emotional that we express our feelings through songs.?..We are family oriented citizen and we love every member of our family as much as we love ourself. By the way, we filipinos doesn’t need to dress up for the wake or funeral. We wear what we want and that’s okey.
In lighter side,,, thats how or way / does the Pinoy (Filipino) makes you cry while singing.. not being happy but admirable one. Thank You,, of such appreciation...💞 🇵🇭

you can literally feel that he' s singing his whole heart out ❤️😭
Filipinos have a strong, deeply rooted singing culture; we sing in practically every occasions, students sing during graduations, during weddings, birthdays and even funeral wakes, restaurant staff sings for customers, office people sings for colleagues, random people singing in malls. We are emotional and affectionate people and the most common way we express this is through singing and music.
Hes a ship captain working away from his family and wife.. this is so heartbreaking 💔 He just poured out his emotions and expressed love to her wife.. He came home 3 days after her wife passed. 😢
When a Filipino love a woman.. is unconditional and it will never end till the end of time❤
too much pain our heart to hear that man sang. he was brave to sing on his wife's funeral. a strong husband😭😭
This hits home, I lost the love of my life to cancer in 2010 and I still miss her every day.
it's customary that Family members stays in the funeral parlor for the duration of the wake over several nights to welcome and receive guests who would give their farewells to the deceased. And we ordinary Filipinos don't dress in coats or tuxedos, sometimes we put on our traditional formal wear which is the Barong only during the burial of our loved ones.
