Of course not. KA13 has dual CS4313 DAC chips inside after all, sounds very good in general.

How is this compared to ka5 or dc04? Can this drive hifiman sundara or he400se?

KA13 is made for power hungry headphones yes. Sound-wise one step behind of KA5. DC04 honestly I don't know.

Just a switch to trigger the desktop mode.

What about balance output without desktop mode ? With desktop mode, sure it's 550mw. I'm still confused about desktop mode, is it only usable with bal or se too, and how much output if desktop mode used with se (if possible)

yes its only usable with bal, because it uses more power. Other input dont need "desktop mode" desktop mode only unlocks more power

You can regard the "desktop mode" as a simple low/high gain switch, that's exactly what it does on both outputs. It's a bit silly marketing speak, that's all. According to the official website, maximum output power on the 3.5mm output is 2x170 mW @32 Ohm. We all know marketing likes to exaggerate a bit, that's normal. But on my 48 Ohm Sony headphones, it's easily powerful enough to hurt my ears at full volume, without losing bass definition. It's plenty powerful even on the 3.5mm out.

You right on 3.5mm , but on 4.5mm its 500mw, and they didnt lie I had a hiby fc4 300mw and fiio ka 13 IS WAY better@@ropeburn6684

@@JuanPablo-- KA5 will be fairly enough for HD700, but for the the HD800 you might have a challenge, it would be a better choice if you think the new KA17 with more than enough power for about $40 more.
