FIGURE SKATING PROGRESS | 1 MONTH

Фильм және анимация

by the time of upload -- which is like 6 weeks after the time of filming -- i have COMPLETED my adult intermediate lessons (ISI alpha-beta / USFSA 1-3) !!! i'm so pumped. as i'm doing a lot of traveling this summer, i'll probably continue skating lessons in the fall, and training alone on weekends this summer. we'll see. my goal is to improve enough for a 6-month progress video to actually look significantly better. i'm just glad i finally figured out how to stop!!! on ice.

When doing your one foot glide try not bringing your foot so high up, let your foot rest closer to your ankle and that might help a little bit to keep your balance

This is actually one of the best ice skating videos out there because there's no talking just skating and demonstrating.

Beautiful, good job 👏👏👏. I just started to take lessons. Been on the ice 3 times only though, so I'm a bit scared of falling and all that, but my coach challenges me a lot. Im 30 but that doesn't stop me. You are doing great, I hope I can do all that one day 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Yay!! It took me about 4 months to even get forward and backward crossovers. Youve learned so much so fast! I started september 2016 and I can do sit spins, toe loop and salchow. My waltz jump looked just like yours when I was first doing them, and I thought i was jumping sooo high then I look at my videos now and the progress is insane. I try to film myself too because I love seeing my own progress. One day youll look back at this video and be amazed at how much youve improved!!

That is so amazing, I’m hitting my six month point. I still don’t have my backward crossovers, but I think this inspired me to get them done. ❤️

When doing foward crossovers I recommend that your movement needs to have more flow. When preparing to cross over, keep your legs a little bit closer to each other. Try lifting your leg a little bit more early and try to hold that one foot glide for a longer time as you're slowly moving it over so your foot doesn't kind of rush the crossover. Once that leg crosses over and comes in contact with the ice, try to push my yourself a bit using the back leg (still with my legs crossed) and then lift that leg a little bit away from the ice so now you're back in that one foot glide (again, legs still crossed) hold that for some time, and then move your back leg around so you can do a stroke with that other leg to keep you moving. But working on your one foot glide and edges on a circle will really help improve that.

You've started a lot of tough elements in your first month! Great work :) I remember when I used to find two-foot turns so difficult and impossible to do, this makes me super reminiscent. All the best! x

Wow, you're pretty good for 1 month. Do you take lessons? I was starting my forward crossovers and backwards skating in June, after skating alone for 3 months like 2 times a week, but I had a nasty fall just before summer break (no skating during summer) and that was a huge setback. I'm not BAD at skating, I'm just terribly scared to try anything else than forward stroking and stuff like that :'D any tips to overcome that?

I take iceskating lessons once a week and in total of the number of days it would be 23 days. I’m currently learning backwards slaloms, backwards stroking and forward crossovers. I really wanna know how many days people practice per week when I see these one month progress cause the progress is better than mine XD

Your improvement is great just a little something I want to tell you is when you do your bunny hop it will make it easier if you didn’t keep you arms in a L position try swinging them with your legs and make sure you land on the toe pick just a little. Swing omg your arms will not only make it easier but also help you jump higher. Sorry if this sounds rude just wanted to let you know.

Ofc you can, I wasn’t flexible at all but still went, I’m working on my cord and flexibility, I can tell you that you can start any time just go with the flow if you really want to, right now I’m on leve 6 and very happy that I started figure skating. Good luck to you, you can do it 😉

how do you get confidence to do turns off the wall? I'm stuck on 2 foot turns because i'm too scared to do them off the wall

Zuramama have someone hold your hand and glide next to you when you do the 2 foot turn. Make sure that you don't rely on them for too long, so that you don't become dependent on them. Eventually you can do it without someone else.

Hey my advice is just try it first relatively slowly but with enough speed so you won't fall. I think it important to realise you will fall when practicing so once you're not scared of falling you'll improve a lot :) Best of luck.

Which skates are you using? I was thinking of buying the Jackson Excel ones but i'm not sure.

  • @rachelthesleepyperson8436

Rose Naz Jackson Mystique are more expensive but totally worth the money. When you're a skater, unless you rarely skate and dont take lessons, you cant cheap out on your skates. If your ankles arent supported right you risk injury and also ruining your skating (I have made this mistake myself but got myself some Jackson Artistes and my skating improved in an hour!!) If you're scared of spending a lot then giving up skating after, people sell their skates on ebay a lot. You can sell them and get your money back if you dont like them or give up skating.
