Good to see you back on here Steve. After following many of your stories on FB , and very intriguing to say the least , I had made good friends with Koos before that and new it would be of good value for Legacy which got sorted promptly , as Steve flew the Mirage jets along with other Rhodie pilots. Thank you Koos yoy got the ball rolling.

This man is living an amazing life and all down to an fighter aircraft. I bet you he would not have dreamed that this would happen at the age of 76. Imagine that smile when he climbed back into the cockpit after all these years. Being next to him to see his face would have been an honorable experience. Enjoy it Flt Lt Steve Murray, you have been given a chance very, very few people will ever experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience after Air force. I remember you on One Squadron as a technician self appointing yourself and PJ Olivey to tow Hunters out on to the flight line each day. Your enthusiasm seemed to be endless 😊

Another brilliant interview. Thanks Steve, Tony and Chris. Such a pity so much Rhodie and SA talent had to leave their respective countries because of politics. As an aside, I teach Aviation as a school subject to grade 8 and grade 9 learners (form 1 and form 2), at Hoërskool Waterkloof Aviation Academy. Aerodynamics in gr 8 and nav (wizwheel navex et al) in gr 9, based on the SACAA PPL syllabus. It is an own choice subject and I have 20 gr 8 learners and 21 gr 9 learners.

1:15 Talking about Dick Lord , his book that he wrote " Vlamgat" may be of interest to viewers. I am fortunate to have a signed copy that he signed 26 May 2000.

Vlamgat is a good read. If I'm not mistaken Dick helped start 'Top gun' in USA.

The story of the Hunter rebuild industry emerging is similar to the community of WW2 warbird builders.

Many sectors with Steve in Qantas on the 737 and never was a truer word spoken, a nicer a guy to fly with you’d be hard pressed to find. Dick Lord was part of the original “fighter mafia” I think? 👍🏼 Great interview, but please, Qantas isn’t spelled with a “U” !😵‍💫😝😬

Great story Steve. You will forever be in my mind as the Pilot/Instructor who sent me on my first solo flight in VP-YYY Cherokee PA 28-140 on 26th June 1981 after 11 hours training. Then seven months later, with 30 hours more in the air I was the first member of the Midlands Flying Club to get a PPL on 23rd Jan 1982 and guess what - my flight test Instructor was once again Steve Murray also in VP-YYY Unfortunately I was never able to fly with you in the Hunter T bird whilst we were both on 1 Squadron because I had my resignation papers filed and barred from having a jolly with you - I was gutted.

Good to hear from you Gavin. Pity you never got to fly in the Hunter with me.
