I wasn't expecting a full on documentary about FB's history tracing it all the way back to Watanabe. I feel like Kamone's PR presence is too strong that everyone forgets about bossman Narita. Excellent work. Always did want to cover the UNI's concept and prototype stage ideas. Just as a side note: Rinne/Linne just flat out means reincarnation. It's the Japanese translation of the buddhist concept of Samsara. Chemeti is pronounced Shumeti, if Phonon's own pronunciation is to be believed. I miss mob boss Hilda's design SO much. UNICLR was even less than what you described, it had no story addition. It was JUST Lond's arcade mode.

Under night In-birth is basically far cousin of tsukihime/melty blood and fate series

the intro is fucking insane, brought out the potential in the song that the game doesnt bring out, truly epic

Had to pause the video because I needed to glaze Raito in the comments. This. Man. Is. So. GOOD. He put his heart and soul in the Under Night OST man. I found out about Uni1 while looking up random games on psnow, literally months before bbtag got announced so you can imagine my excitement when I saw Hyde show up when I was really just there for Yu Narukami + Ruby Rose since I wasn’t familiar with Blazblue. I’m really glad you made this video I’m hoping this series continues for a long time and floods the main stream. I’m really hoping for an anime or manga because the potential this series has is insane if handled correctly

“Long Live The Night” That sounds so raw to me. Anyway my fave French Bread is Under Sheets In Bed. But seriously, it’s Uniclr. Unexpectedly, I fell in love with Uni through BBTag of all things and made me check out all their supers and trying to guess who would be put into BBTag. After a few years for my birthday, a friend of mine, who is just a small streamer, gifted me an nintendo eshop code enough for uni2 and a month of NSO (I only have the switch as my main console as of this moment) and would make Uni my most fave fighting game that I like to play casually and spend some time in the lab. Uni has made a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to play Uni2 once I get it. Once again, Long Live The Night

I was wondering about Uzuki, she was part of the script at one point before I cut it down. She was voted to be the next character to be added to UNI2 but I guess some people mattered more to the story.

Great work! Love the in depth history of French Bread and some insight into the lore of the game. How they grew from just a couple dudes making doujin games to a full (albeit still small) studio with a super dedicated following is really inspiring. And that we're finally in the rollback era with UNI I really hope the game grows even bigger!

Just got into UNI with the recent release, this helped give a lot of context to the game. Great Vid!

The title made me think of the Arcana Heart series. Under Night was been a main stage game at Evo, I think that disqualifies the series as being an underdog. I do like a lot of the under night characters and mechanics tho. Still waiting for Ryougi Shiki in the new melty blood.

I remember finding exe:late before it released and finally being so excited about a new modern fighter, it reinvigorated my love for the genre, and it's now definitively up there as my favorite fighting game series with some of the greats like Marvel 3 and Melee. I genuinely think it belongs in the echelon of Third Strike in terms of its absolutely beautiful sprite-work and fantastic gameplay mechanics.

I've been a massive Type Moon fan for years and only over the pandemic got into fighting games. I fell in love with Melty Blood and have been super hyped for UNI2. This was a great video to understand just how special the UNI franchise is and a perfect way to spend the work day before UNI2 comes out officially

One of my absolute favourite gaming moments was finding a used copy of Under Night In-birth: Exe Late and picking it up on impulse. Knew nothing about it was just spell bound. Great decision I think!

Didn't know I'd have all this info taught to me. I greatly appreciate it, sometimes the story behind the game makes it greater.

Long time Street Fighter player, I started playing UNI at the very end for something new, now i'm playing UNI 2 and in my humble opinon French bread make sick fighting games. People complain about modern fgs but Uni feels like the opposite to me, it feels like you are rewarded for execution and the grd system is so good. Weirdly as well, as a SF player, it doesn't feel too anime to me, yeah the characters are, i mean in the gameplay, it feels way more grounded than a lot of games. I love it. More people should play it

I just platinumed Under-Night In-Birth last week on PS5. Now I'm working platinuming Melty Blood Type Lumina.

I don't wanna be rude, but why does Juuni Taisen sound like a 50% discount Great Value! version of Jujutsu Kaisen you'd find in the Value Tv Shows section of Walmart? Once again, not trying to raff on Juuni Taisen, but the two titles weirdly sound similar.

Excellent documentary on a beloved fighting game franchise. It's great to learn about the history and lore. You mispronounce a number of names, though.

RBO is such a really cool and solid beat em up. I always wish something like it exists again, it's too cool and has a lot of things games nowday lack

2 reasons 1. It was cool, 2. Because everyone was after the game day one. Arc put DBFZ DLC on the same day, BlazBlue players where shitting on the game because it wasn't Blazblue, people hated the game for having auto combos and dp button, the dev cycle for the game was screwed up, there was so many guns pointed at BBTAG's head when all it wanted was to live peacefully. I believe I covered it all in the video.

Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code was the first fighting game I got into, playing it by myself. Before then I had only played SF2 for around an hour. But UnderNight was the first game that taught me how to play fighting games. It brought me my first FGC friend and widened my vision to all the other great games out there. I'm really hopefully for the sequel and I want to say thank you for the video!

as someone who got into the fgc in like 2021-22ish its crazy to me that uni didnt come out in like 2019 or 2020

So like genuine question, why do all later updates drop the B in the acronym. Like UNIB only refers to like the one version, then all subsequent ones drop the b. why is that?

Good question, basically the acronyms were all community created. Uni started being the short hand for the whole series, giving the the first version of UNI had no added words to the title, to create less confusion people started calling it UNIB. Plus UNIST and UNICLR sounds better than UNIBST and UNIBCLR.
