I remember there was a time Golovkin never took a step backwards. I feel like this new style Banks has him doing - circling the ring & fighting off the backfoot just doesn’t suit him. His power isn’t the same going backwards, he’s not sitting on his punches like he used to. Part of what made him great was that relentless pressure - constantly coming forward putting guys on their backfoot, forcing them to the ropes/corners. Really wish he would have picked a better trainer. Someone like Sugar hill or Buddy Mcgirt would have suited him so much better

Consider that he has been inactive for more than a year and in any case he is always in excellent shape. He needs to retire before a third fight with Canelo. He was robbed previously, and he's slower than he was then. In reality he's nearly a decade away from his prime. My fear is seeing him stopped, and Canelo being seen as his superior. In their primes at middle, GGG wins all day for me.

Looking at the slowmo reels, I see GGG learning to take body shots. He curls with them and many hit the low pelvis hip bone area. Under the ribs is more dangerous. He’s also built more muscle to his midsection so he looks thicker. He’s also using more combos and adjusting during the fight. Or ally he jabs but with long armed Murrata he is fighting on the inside. People think GGG doesn’t defend but he blocks and parries and slips well. He’s a pressure fighter so they always get hit more. But he played the inside game and got hit and broke Murrata down until he got back to the jab in the later rounds.
@kimcousins1125

To beat Alvarez (Again) he must outbox him. He is technically superior, but as we can all see he is tiring quicker, so if he is smart he will conserve his energy for the middle rounds and outbox Canello in the earlier rounds instead of trying to knock him out. Both have granite chins so I don't see a knockout but if GGG can frustrate Canelo and make him careless he still has the awesome power, enough to damage Canelo badly.

Consider that he has been inactive for more than a year and in any case he is always in excellent shape. For a champion who trains with dedication like bernard Hopkins before him, on an athletic level it is not a problem to continue his career beyond 40. The real risk is represented by too many blows suffered during the career for which it is better not to continue
At 40 years of age this man is still destroying top talent, one of the greatest middleweights in boxing history. Edit: There’s a lot of pathetic losers/haters who speak behind keyboards who haven’t got a clue what it takes to be an Olympic medalist, multiple time world champion, financially set for life, or even set foot in an amateur ring at the lowest level and instead try to point to another fighter’s successes as a means to make themselves feel better and discredit GGG’s accomplishments. The commentators nailed it when they mentioned GGG does more damage landing consistent jabs then his opponents do with their infrequent power shots. Unfortunately it also gets him allot of very close decisions since judges don't seem to appreciate the jab much. Prime example would be the Jacobs fight.
Haven't watched the whole fight yet, but I like how they respect each other especially in the end of first round.
Golovkin wasn’t circling in the last round because he was tired. He was setting Murata up for the opening he saw. Look at 14:58 he was about to throw the same punch that ended the fight but stopped because the timing wasn’t right. Golovkin is too skilled for some of these commentators eyes.

After watching GGG over the years, I feel like he never lets his opponent fully know what they are in for until the water is too deep. He spends the fight absorbing his opponents output, tastes his power, watches his movements and reactions. Takes everything in, and then unleashes destruction.

@kimcousins1125

Bravo GGG, vous êtes un très bon combattant , félicitations de la part d’un fans latino-américain 👍💥🥊

I’m glad GGG took a long break. It looked he needed to get himself right after the Dereyev fight. He is 40 now so of course he is not as quick and nimble as he used to be, but he demonstrated to the world that his brains and his power have not left him yet. I was so glad to see him giving himself breaks in between heavy offense, and to see him defending well off the back foot is very comforting. GGG is not the boogeyman he once was, but he is still a an elite boxer.

The way GGG is using the left hand is beautiful, and his punch selection has improved considerably. However his defense is worrying; I see him getting very hurt against Canelo.
