The Story:
In the summer of 2008, when we set out to film, it was another New Orleans day. A sure sign was the radiating humidity that made your entire body feel like it was covered in a sort of sweaty film. Once you get past the initial fear of the inevitable grime and heat, you feel a certain energy or "atmosphere"- like a kid throwing himself without reserve into a mud fight.
We had an idea: ask as many people as possible the same question. We didn't know exactly why- I guess we were hoping to expose a slice of human emotion (maybe). Just the simple act of reaching out and asking the question is such a enthralling experience in itself. So go ahead, ask yourself.....

50 people - the number doesn't reallly count. it's not about the 50 but about the entire 6 billion (or what ever number we've reached today). all of them with their own little universe that lacks a part. and they want it back. these people are so humane in their looks , their wishes, their dreams ... and ttheir generosity to share their world with us and the director. that question is like... someone really cares. truly moving. great film, great portraits, great music.Bravo!

In 1882, Lev Tolstoy published his books "A Confession" and "What I believe". It is amazing to see how we have all been asking ourselves deep questions and how we have nothing else but shallow answers. Well, not all of us, some have been hurt by life - it is them who behold the true answer. Like that man @ 5:44

What amazes me is that although most people answer with a boring generic thing like being a millionaire or being happy, one out of fifty blow my mind by saying "to wake up". People are so dull, and yet sometimes you come across someone who actually knows what it means to be a human being.

I work at a coffee shop and so I have countless micro-encounters with people every day. Too many people end up being in a rush or come off as rude and it's hard not to become cynical eventually. But this video makes me remember that people are unique and all have their own personal aspirations and dreams. It reminds me that humans are human. Thank you for making this.

The most value thing about this video I think is the fact that shows us what people wish during the 21st century, what is their mentality. Pretty simple, I will say, and pretty selfish too. This video will be more meaningful 100 years from now.

i like their shy smiles and the different ways they look into the camera. but more than that I like the little moments when their face goes unguarded and you can briefly see a little of what's underneath.

personally i liked the one who said, "i wish a nice lady would join me smoking a cigar in the cigar store" it really gets down to human essence and the simple pleasures of life, if sitting down with someone and smoking a cigar is really what makes him happy, then good for him for knowing it, knowing what he really wants

I really loved how you started out with a dark/mild green colour and the whole time shot in a light brown earth colour it really brought out all the highlights in the peoples faces and gave a sense that these people aren't really anything special but they still have dreams like the rest of us. BRAVO!

I really like this, for a couple of reasons. Tons of people say what they want all the time, but when you ask them, they're stumped. A wide variety of people, different personalities. But most wouldn't do things for themselves. Really good question.

It's fun to hear that everyone has their own little wishes.. That everyone takes a moment to look at the sky and kinda got blank then just say whatever comes first in their minds But when you think back, it is their happiness.. And now I wish I could grant those simple pleasures in life.. This video made a difference to my life.. thank you...

As soon as I heard the question I said "World Peace" out loud, and this hope flooded me, I believed for a few short seconds that each of the fifty were good to say PEACE PEACE... and instead to be a millionaire came out, three times a million dollars. I suppose there's honesty in that. And so isn't it sad that's were we are at, those insignificant things which really don't matter, wouldn't matter if there was Peace...
