Fiesta ST Build [Pt.17] "Tubular Quickspool Manifold"

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we are installing a Pumaspeed Small Bore "QuickSpool" Tubular Manifold and we noticed some crazy gains in terms of spool times and when we start building boost.

    You should make an update video on some pulls with the tune finished. Curious to see how it pulls with aux and with it all setup. I have the same turbo with an EWG setup and I need a push to go aux or meth.. Lol

    Soon, no plans yet. Aux fueling as well as the tubular manifold help the fiesta make the jump from 300 to 400, so worth it. For now need a comparison car, as a video doesn't do the pull any justice.

    We were already running a Garrett GTX2860R Gen 2. This fits the factory turbo as well. This is meant for faster spool and higher hp. You might not see any difference on stock turbo, the cast is plenty for the small boi.

    I have heard that before the turbo, velocity is more important for spool than volume, and that the stock unit provides much higher velocity due to the smaller size and shorter distance. Any direct data comparisons out there on the Pumaspeed unit vs. the stock manifold?

  • @JonnyBarajas

    @JonnyBarajas

    A stock log manifold is firstly prone to cracking after many heat cycles, so that was a concern we didn't want to deal with. the stock manifold is a log by design, causing air turbulence due to the log style unequal length runs. If not ported it is even worse. The velocity and volume of the air is decreased by this. A tubular manifold is designed with equal runs and a merge collector eliminating the two factors limiting the volume and velocity on a stock manifold. It is also more resistant to cracking. In this case, the stock manifold did not allow enough exhaust to push past 350whp while tuning and was bottle neck for the GTX2860r2 turbo. A bigger turbo will require more exhaust than a stock turbo. This also affects the spool at rpm, before the manifold boost build up started at 3.5k , after, it was 3k rpm. This is also the case for every car and engine, not specific to the fiesta.

    @@JonnyBarajas Ah, so it sounds like this upgrade was done to increase volume for more power, and not necessarily spool time?

  • @JonnyBarajas

    @JonnyBarajas

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@BryBishop We were shooting for more power, but a by-product was faster spool. We had been shooting for the 400whp mark since the very beginning and ran into this roadblock. 500 rpm in spool time was a nice bonus. If you want faster spool, a small turbo is the most impactful option to reduce spool time.

    I believed on the forums,they mentioned the exhaust manifold isn't restrictive? (at least for the stock turbo). From all your upgrades, what are the 5 most important upgrades in your opinion, for more power? I would guess bigger intercooler and turbo, and a tune come first; then injectors and wastegate adjustment (with retune). I think the gains from a new exhaust manifold are small, but perhaps at 300-400HP they are noticeable.

  • @JonnyBarajas

    @JonnyBarajas

    5 жыл бұрын

    Power is what I was looking for. Firstly, the stock turbo was the first to go as its the biggest restriction. 2860r gen 2 and big intercooler were my first purchases. Every mod is a supporting mod after that. To reach the limit of the turbo and engine. The Manifold was purchased to allow the jump from 350whp to 400whp. The added benefits were unexpectedly welcome.

    Not intended for Stock turbo. Used for quicker spool on larger turbos, and to increase top end power, which the stock turbo does not have. We installed the Garrett before we installed the manifold, so we wouldn't know.

  • @JonnyBarajas

    @JonnyBarajas

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@BunnyBUNGALO We're not stock turbo, Our current setup uses an adapter to convert the stock turbo mounting to a v-band, which the turbo uses. A Tubular manifold has equal length, more open runs that increase flow for spool time. The stock turbo spools fast already, so you will definitely see minimal if any spool time change. And the flow of the stock manifold is not a bottle neck until 350+, which is not possible on stock turbo or fueling. But if you have big turbo plans, its a needed upgrade for the future.

I just wanna get all the prerequisites for a bigger turbo. I wanna pull out every last HP from the stock turbo before doing that though. Already running e40 with an upgraded wastegate and it pulls way harder now than it did on e30 so I do believe theres a little more room to play.
