Great video. With a multi-use tool like the Pronto, could you fertilize first with a different tool and then use the multi-tool (which would then cultivate, plant and fertilize) to get to the second fertilized state without waiting for growth?

Great question. You run into the same problem you have with fertilizing afterwards. When the field state is "fertilized" you can't immediately fertilize again, which the Pronto would try to do.

Thanks a lot. It looks like there is no difference between the fields that "needs plow" and "standard", other than you changed just the wording in the 2nd process from "plow" to "cultivate"? Or was the "standard" field just to show the combi tool (cultivation+seed) and it does not really need cultivation or plowing at all?

If you have periodic plowing turned on in the settings, there are times when your field will say that it needs to be plowed. Otherwise, it simply needs to be cultivated. So, I was showing processes for both of those situations. Thanks!

Like this video. I use the Kuhn 40.2 M-EMC-W to spread fertilizer and the Bruns 12000 to spread lime. Both are rated 24.0 m spread. But it takes multiple more runs up and down a certain field for the Bruns than the Kuhns which runs only 3 passes to do the same field. Why is this?

Probably because fertilizer spreads wider than lime. On most spreaders, lime will only spread half the distance of fertilizer. So for a 24 m spreader, you only get 12 m on the lime.

Great video Harv, but 1 thing I don't get is, what's the point of a multi use tool, to speed things up, if you then have to wait to apply the 2nd dose of fertilizer? Surely that just defeats the object. I mean I know you can speed up time, but that seems like a hack to me. I realise we may have to just work with what the game gives us, but hoping you might say there's a mod to address this issue now! :)

The multi-purpose seeders/planters (direct drills) drastically reduce the number of times you have to go over the field. Without them, you'd cultivate, then fertilize, then seed - that's three trips over the same ground. With a "direct drill" you get the same effect, and you only have to drive the field once. Thanks!

Hello my friend, your content is great. Which map is this one please?

so i followed the steps for a standard field > Fert - Cultivate - Seed - Fert and I used the equipment shown in your beginners walk through for Ravenport (i.e. the John Deere direct drill seeder and fertiliser combo) but after fertilising with the Bruns spreader followed by cultivating/seeding/fertilising using the John Deere implement, it only showed the field as having one application of fert. any clues?

Yes… you can’t fertilize back to back. When you use a direct drill it ignores everything else, and compares the fertilized field state with the seeder’s fertilizer option, and decides that you are fertilizing twice.

I'm new to the game due to the recent Steam sale, but my confusion is with the difference between plowing and cultivating. I noticed one time you plowed, the other example you cultivated, how would I know which is needed?

Open your menu and look at the map. On the right hand side you'll see "Fruit Types." Click the arrows to the left and right. There are three screens there, and one of them is "Soil Composition." The different colors there will tell you what your field needs - plowing, lime, weeding, and how much fertilizer is applied. You can click on the words to turn that particular thing off or on, on your map. While you'll usually be required to plow the first time you work a field, the only other time you need to worry about plowing is after certain crops - corn, potatoes, sugar beets, and sugarcane. However, plowing is required to create new fields.

Why would you use a plow vs a cultivator or vise verse? I can’t find any information on this. Thanks for the great content.

Most of the time a cultivator is enough. But look at the field states on your map, and if "needs plowing" shows up on the field, you'd HAVE to use a plow, or you take a 15% penalty to your harvest on that field. Periodic plowing is a setting you can turn on/off. With it off, you'd never have to plow at all. With it turned on, you have to plow when the field calls for it. You HAVE to plow after four crops - potatoes, corn, sugar beets, and sugarcane. Thank you!

Can these same theories be applied when using the Seasons mod? Eg. After creating a brand new field, it needs lime so should I be able to fert>lime>cultivate>seed>fert then wait for a growth stage and fert again?

Yes, most of this should apply for Seasons - but Seasons changes many things. I can't remember for sure, but I believe FS19 Seasons requires 3 applications of fertilizer, not 2.

Yeah that's right, 3x fert Turns out when you create a brand new field that was grassed originally, the ploughed grass turns into the first application of fert so you're free to lime>cultivate>seed>fert before waiting for a growth stage and fert again

with the standard field: you cultivateted it before the turtorial, then you fertilize it, and then cultivate it again, why? now i'm confused

Because that was the only way that I could set the field ground for the example. I suppose I could, and maybe should have, started with a freshly harvested field, but I just wanted everyone to get the idea of what to do. A slight oversight on my part, for sure.

Another great video thanks. I just have one question. Sometimes a field will say it needs plowed so I put on the fertilizer then plow it. After I plow it says that it needs lime so do I put lime on it then cultivate then seed and fertilize?

Just put the lime on, then you can seed and fertilize. You don't have to cultivate it a second time. Plowing the field is enough.

@@rayjames1493 Suit yourself. I've never had a problem with it. As to varying widths, it depends on the person who made the mod.

I just discovered this sim about a month ago. I am enjoying it a lot! I do not have any crops yet. I started following the field needs according to the game menu. So I plowed the field, limed, planted and fertilized once. I tried to fertilize Again and nothing happens. Now I found this video and realize why nothing is happening. How do I fix this? Do I need to plow the field again and start the planting process over again? I am still trying to find my way in this sim.

If you wait for the crop to start growing (you can actually see it in the field), you should be able to get your second coat of fertilizer on at that point. Or, maybe the field already has 2 coats of fertilizer. You might want to check out my series Ravenport Walk-through for Beginners. Hundreds of people have gotten started in FS19 with that series. And, my Discord server is a great place to find help and ask questions. Hope this helps you out.

FS19 doesn't pay much attention to the type of tool that you use to prepare your field. A subsoiler will take care of a "needs plowing" field state. Otherwise, it works the same as any other cultivator.

when do I put the herbicide on because there is always weeds when the crop is done growing but I dont want to damge the crops while puting the herbicide on

You can put herbicide on at any time after the field is planted. It will never damage your crop. In fact, if you put it on immediately after you're done planting, you can prevent weeds from growing at all.

Good question. Unfortunately not. It is all about field states, and when you use a multi function seeder, the game only recognizes the fertilized field state. So it thinks you are fertilizing back to back, and won’t allow it. There must be one change of field state between Applications of fertilizer.

In the game - not much. Plowing is required for certain crops in the game (and only if you turn on periodic plowing). Some form of cultivation is always required in FS19. In the real world, they are each used for different types of soil conservation. Cultivating is less disruptive of the soil, where plowing will turn over large clods that don't blow away as easily - just for some minor examples.

It depends on the situation. I'm giving you the options, but you have to make the choice depending on what you're doing. Personally, I try to use the "no waiting game" version as much as possible. But sometimes it isn't.

You lose 50% of your potential harvest. Fertilizing increases your yield by 25% each time you fertilize.

@@unclefester1840 Absolutely. Think about it this way. I can harvest 10k wheat, or 20k wheat. So at just $1 per liter, I can make either $10k or $20k (not actual pricing). A few hundred dollars of fertilizer just made me an additional $10k dollars. Thanks for the sub, and welcome to Harv's World!

Unfortunately, you can't unless you change the field state after fertilizing. So if you need lime, you could fertilize, then lime, then use the multipurpose.

What’s the difference between cultivator and plower

In the real world, a plow digs deeper and turns the soil over. A cultivator simply prepares the upper layer of the soil for planting. The game tries to simulate this. In game, a cultivator (without a mod) can not create a new field. Only a plow can do that. Giants has also included to option for periodic plowing, where you HAVE to plow after certain crops. Also, a plowed state is different than a cultivated state, but you can plant after either.

@@oswaldovazquez6232 No. If you plow or cultivate it will clear the field and you won't have any crops. You can lime or fertilize during any growth stage before "ready to harvest"
