Thanks for your kind endorsement and insight into blues fiddle playing. Listening to the style of a good singer is especially instructive for fiddle or violin playing.

This is THE ONLY blues fiddle posting on all of youtube that is not some "violinist" blathering pentatonic diarrhea over the 12 bar form. Most of them sound way too nervous, and nervous is not blues music! Milk Cow is an excellent example of how blues music sounds. I wonder if any of the so-called purvuyors of "blues fiddling" have ever listened to Little Walter or other classic blues harmonica players? The most authentic sounding blues fiddlers I hear are the Texas fiddlers like Cliff Bruner.

The clue is the open string I start with. The G string and the scale and key of G. Often called "the people's key of G."

Essentially he's playing on the G and D strings: G, B, D, F natural (lo 2) and back down. The second chord (C) is C (3rd finger on G), E (first finger on D), G and B flat (lo 1 on A). The third chord (D) is open D, F sharp (hi 2), and open A. There are slides and some double stops (two strings played at once) but essentially just as I described above.

I wonder if the difference you hear is the steel vs. nylon strings. A fiddle and violin are identical, but many fiddlers use string whereas most classical violinists use nylon. That more metallic sound might be what you assiciate with a stroh.

Hi! Great video! I am trying to write down all your notes from 3:14 to 4:28 and it's really hard. Do you know your notes and could write them? I understand that it's still the 12 bar blues form but I can't figure out the notes. All the notes 0:30 to 0:56 I have accomplished to write down! Ps. I am a beginner but I really want to progress!

(continued) and Joe Holley (or most any of Bob Wills' fiddlers) and Kansas City "jazzer" Claude Williams. So many of the "blues fiddle" postings here are virtuosic types like Mark O'Connor and Dorol Anger, and while phenominal at non-blues styles, do not exhibit any soulful comprehension of blues music. I would point to the singing of Jimmie Rodgers as the most accessable example of blues, but would hope folks would dig deeper to Son House Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters etc. Listen to singers!!

How do I play this? And would this answer my question on my quizd396qusza40orc.cloudfront.net/musicianship/L04_Study-Guide-v1.pdf to play the 12 bar blues. I don't understand keyboards or other instruments just violin. Do you have the exact notes. I suppose if i listened a few times I could play it. All instruments the same but note the same on chords/notes? Not sure if making myself clear, seems so hard but easy. Been playing violin for years but have no knowledge or understanding very little of music theory, wish I could just memorize every sound and kinda can do some to play in groups but there has to be a purpose to this music theory stuff. Intervals are helpful make sense

Keyboard theory is not so useful in learning music theory for violin and fiddle. Have you gone through the complete Playlist of kzread.info/head/PLFEE6ACBC6A976462 That's a good starting point.

Elan Chalford thanks will look through all this. I grew up Suzuki and was hoping I could give up music theory and just play by ear but that doesn't seem to work in Yanni Until the Last Moment. I can play this if I listen to it enough times. Will look through your information before giving up on music theory. I was hoping I could give up music theory and memorize every sound, note but that doesn't seem like that is working, kinda. Thanks
