1968 square stern fiberglass canoe that my brother and I started restoring 95% done and then unfortunately my brother passed away he was retired from Chris Craft boat company he built the mold for the boats. It still needs a bow cover and painted. That's why I'm watching your video I'm hoping I could learn how to finish my canoe it has been in the rafters of the barn since my brother's passing it is very unique I haven't seen another one like it.

Derek Thank you for telling us your story. Definitely finish that boat while you can, it will mean more to you than anyone else. And if your skill set is not up to his any there is an obvious difference between your work and his, don’t worry about it. That will give him something to rag you about when you meet up again.

Nice work! I built fiberglass canoes for years. The reason they don't enclose the floatation is because hot air will expand in the sun and cause the ends to buckle and/or crack, so it needs a hole to breath.

My son took it for a trip down the Tangipahoa River witch is shallow moving water with lots of downed trees to drag over. He punched two holes in the sides up high. I guess that’s why they no longer make fiberglass canoes. In deeper still water they are probably fine. Thanks for watching!

After watching yours and other videos on the topic, I’m leaning towards fresh gel coat. Sorry about the new holes. Hope you guys were able to patch them up. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
