Hey, thanks for doing these videos! I beat Lyon 1 as summoner with your bozja one, and after many attempts beat Lyon 2! It was tricky since I didn't really have as much damage as you did here (even with tincture which was strange, only difference was i only had 8 rays of valor) and I reached exaflares each time I did it and had to reapply flare star, but I managed to get there in the end after learning how to deal with that phase and the knockback afterwards. Got my fancy bike now :)

RDMs damage should be higher because manafication and embolden grant you +15% dmg while SMN only has devotion (5%) - it should be around 10% better just judging from that without considering normal job actions

Yeah, it’s something you just have to keep at it. Yesterday I kept getting instances where Menenius duel had just happened, so it was always a one hour wait. At least it was predictable.

maybe a dumb question but do you need to have maxed ray of valor buff (10) to do as good of damage? or good gear? plz and thanks

Valor buffs help a lot (up to 30% more damage at 10 stacks), but gear doesn't matter much. It's still doable without those buffs, however, it will take a bit longer and you'll see more mechanics.

Would it be better if you use Trance once so your Bahamut can be followed by a Phoenix for better burst? Maybe you can use the second Excellence for the Phoenix Burst too.

Why do you pop all those buffs before loading into the duel as compared to applying the last two when you start the duel? Wouldn't that extend the buff time a bit so its preferred?

You want to apply lost flare star as early as possible in order to skip mechanics - that single spell accounts for most of your damage, your normal job actions don't matter too much. If you start applying the buffs only when you're inside, you might also be busy with using light curtain / dispel, making it harder to use all buffs in time. Let me know if you need more information!

@@ThePhookas that makes sense, just wanted to check since I heard the opposite. I think it also really matters if you get dance partner buffs and dervish as well for the extra dmg! I feel like it was essential for my first clear on mene!! Also got so close to Lyon with this, 3%. Will be clearing him soon, thanks for the guide!

I'm curious how you would do this as Red mage. Just use the instant cast buff to get max mana asap?

I'm not a good rdm, but embolden will give you a decent boost compared to SMN's devotion. And then yeah burst as much as you can during the buff uptime

I used this guide and your other guide, and while I've been able to easily clear the southern front duels, my dot tick is not as potent as yours is on the Zadnor duels so I haven't been able to finish them. I have all my buffs ready and in the correct order, but Lyon does not die before Flare Star wears off and I'm not sure if it got nerfed or what. :( I have 10/10/10 buffs and am using the tincture + aetherpact. Any tips?

How much hp does he have leftover? If it's only like 5%, it might be your normal job rotation, if it's more it's probably one of the buffs wearing off before you apply flare star. You can join a full party to get the 5% main stat buff if you haven't tried that, or have a friend be on dancer and buff you before you accept the duel

I feel so stupid now, never knew you could save holster loadouts... ^^' I guess the same strategy works for the Southern Front duels too. I was trying those with WHM, but flare star would hit even harder than blood lily+assize.

The explanation how to prepare for it is really useful, I tried to pop chain, excellence, fom and banner when I was already inside, but it was too hectic and ended up doing some stupid mistake because I was stressed. Can you switch jobs between completing the CE and accepting the duel? I usually go as healer when we farm mettle and CLL/DAL, then accidentally do good in the CE and get the option for the duel.

Yep I usually play BLM in Zadnor and switch to SMN for duels, you can switch freely before commencing.

would having a bunch of zadnor haste gear help? im getting slaughtered against menenius and im not really sure why. dots dont tick hard enough and I spend more time healing than attempting to actualyl damage him.

Haste gear does help since it lowers your GCD, however, it does not increase the damage dealt by flare star. Which job are you trying this on? Do you have the Zadnor DPS honor buffs? Let me know if I can help somehow

The HP percentage can be enabled in the interface options, one of our first videos on this channel will show you how (among other things) The HP number is a mod unfortunately

i tried Lyon today did exactly what you did, same actions at the same time in order, (except i forgot to pot) but on red mage and just didnt seem to have anywhere near the damage. I Died at like 34% health. Im sure a potion wouldn't have helped a whole 34% health right? It seems like my flare star doesnt do the same damage

Really sounds like you're missing something important before applying flare star :| Make sure you use embolden and manafication before you apply it, a potion will also give you about a 10% increase and being in a party with 5 different roles gives you another 5% buff. You can also have a dancer in your party buff you before you commence the duel (and use Lost Dervish). These are tips that shouldn't be necessary if you have all dps buffs up before lost flare star, but I hope they will help you

how is your lost dispel on lyon instant cast when your chainspell has worn off? ive tried lyon like 3 times and im noticing i have to hard cast it where yours is instant

@@jeffhourwang The lost dispel is instant because I'm still in Dreadwyrm Trance at that point. How much damage are you missing? If it's more than ~10%, I assume a buff is running out before you apply Flare Star on him. If it's only a few percent, you could try having a party with all different roles (5% total dmg boost) and/or having a dancer buff you just before you enter the fight.

I tried EXACTLY this on both Lyon and Mensius and it doesnt do even close to the same amount of damage, I dont understand... I'm using everything in the correct order and I have full valor, food, everything. It's not working.

Aww I'm sorry to hear that - if the difference is really that huge, the only possibility is that one of the buffs drops off before you apply lost flare star. Maybe you can record your next attempt and try to check the footage and see what's missing

Does Menesius still go down quickly? (as RDM) i keep pushing him to his scourge cast with his HP at 7% , unsure what im doing wrong

This is my final note, ive gotten as close at 5%(during first giga tempest cast) but cause i forgot what it was i died to it with 1 DoT tick remaining(no reraisers), ever since then, ive either missed 1 item from the setup(ether kit) or completely botch the setup, forgetting to use noble ends and removing it off bar+light curtain way too early

I guess it's just a matter of doing it often. I've been in these duels many times to record footage for those videos and I've messed up plenty of times - forgetting buffs, forgetting to press reflect, even being on the wrong job. Things like that just happen unfortunately, but eventually you'll get a good run! If you're only missing 5% I'd recommend getting a friend to give you dancer buffs before you commence the duel, that's a huge difference

Yeah I understand the pain 🙁 Hopefully you'll get it next time, bringing friends along to help and spend time with makes it more tolerable. Since the fate is on a 1 hour cooldown you can stay in the instance, wait for an hour and only then start farming mobs, it should spawn within a few minutes (or will get queued to spawn once other CEs are over)

man it feels like lvl 80 summoner got nerfed now for this easy way, can you pleas check the Lyon's duel in Zadnor for me you don't have to upload a clip I just wanna know if you can do it as fast as before or not

Ive tried this 3 times with my RDM (rip my notoriety) and i just cant get the kill. I usually just die to mechanics but i cant finish it before flare star runs out. Do i need to have 10 honor in offense?

Each dps honor stack grants 3% damage so if you're at 0 right now it would definitely get you over the threshold. Being in a party is generally good for the stat boost it gives (up to 5%), asking for dancer buffs and dervish can definitely help aswell

Still easy indeed yeah. I've done 3/6 so far with SMN and (nearly) Lyon 2 today. If you can, RDM is ever so slightly better because you can get extra buff power out of Embolden + Manafication compared to just SMN's Searing Light alone. An addition 4% too if you can shell out the gil to get some Deep Ordaineds.

Make sure to use Lost bubble aswell and pop a potion before, it will automatically heal you when your hp drops

Black mages can't use the essence of the ordained, which means Chainspell won't grant a 100% damage bonus

Dont do even CLOSE to the damage youre doing.

is it just me, or does all this stacking buffs seem far more complicated than just doing the duels straight-up?

I think they nerfed lost flare dots don't do dmg like before
