I think it comes from the fact that haurchefant family treats the WoL like they're a part of their family hell haurchefant father treats the WoL as if they're his own offspring to me it's very heartwarming and it feels like your a part of their family

So here's a bit of fuel for the fire for everyone. I was reading the little lore tidbits for the mounts in the mount menu, lo and behold I get to the Black Chocobo mount you get from the HW story, only to find out that Haurchefant raised the chocobo himself. It gave me a lot more appreciation for the mount, and I just hop on it sometimes when I'm feeling nostalgic.

When the death of a video game character can make you feel such emotion. You know they had a good writer.

Nobody said it was easy, but they never said how hard it was either.

You can just tell by their reactions that everyone that plays FFXIV remembers and is still not over Haurchefant’s death. It is still impactful and is one of the most tragic scenes in the game 😢😢

after 5 years i'm still not over what happens at the Vault. i played through it recently on an alt, knew what was going to happen, and still ugly sobbed over Haurchefant.

I’ll be honest, when I first played through HW I didn’t really feel his death that much But the more I thought about him, for what we did for him, for what he did for us, etc. I find myself tearing up at any mention of him (sometimes just the sight of him too) We’ll never forget you, Haurchefant

I felt his death, though I had the same immersion-breaking issue I always have in these games, made worse in FFXIV because you can play all jobs; why couldn't I have just switched to WHM and heal him? The game needs to explain the reasoning in these great scenes or the disruption of suspension of disbelief is so jarring that it ruins them.

@@TheRogueX It's explained in the games lore. White Mage's can't heal everything, they mend and tend to wounds, but fatal blows can't be staunched, nor can diseases be stopped they can merely be delayed. This is even a major point in various White Mage story questlines. Taking a lance through the heart would be fatal in our world within minutes.

@@TheRogueX On top of that, in the later fight when you get hit with the attack that was used on Haurchefaunt, it blocks healing when it hits (and will one-hit kill unless the entire party stacks up to take it). Mechanics do match story in this case.

Man, this entire expansion has been a huge sucker punch to the fells from the first quest. Even the final bosses' phase two theme gets me all emotional at certain points. Not to mention the final scene after him...

@@howlingzangetsu The emote is simply called "Haurchefant": You can get it from a side quest chain which starts from the House Fortemps manor in Ishgard (you have to have finished post-Heavensward story patch 3.3 to see it) The first quest is called "The Paths We Walk", and is given to you by the House Fortemps Manservant. You must finish the whole quest chain to get the emote :)

The rains have ceased, and we are blessed with another beautiful day. But you're not here to see it... Thank you for believing in us Haurchefant. I still go and visit his grave whenever something big happens like after I finished 5.3 I just went to his grave, kneeled and just thought "Are you watching old friend?"

That line was so sad to me because I also thought of Haurchefant when Elidibus said it. And yes, I visit him regularly too... it's interesting that Francel now says something different when I see him visit the grave. It's nice touches like that that make the game's world feel like it's always evolving.

I hope the " hero's smile" option is not available for those who used jump potions. They......they don't *deserve* to say those words. How dare they stood where he stood

I would do the same but I habe to cycle a few other titles in as well (this will eventually include the legend titles if I can ever clear ultimates and the deep dungeon solo clear titles)

As a paladin i walked into the first in my outfit tataru gave me ( he dark outfit) and the house fortemps shield on my back. So the end when my character says that its not only seemed fitting because he was ready to die but because he literally brought Haurchefant to the first with him. It really made me tear up.

I had actually customized my Crystarium gear to try to colour the cloak in a way so it matches Haruchefants scarf. I had dont this well in advance not knowing that line was there to say. It was the only correct line for my WoL

Highkey when Larry's reaction started I knew which part he was talking about. Cuz I played through SHB in english but when I went back to rewatch cutscene in Japanese I instantly caught the line where a smile best suits a hero. And that just made me hit the feels train all over again

3:20 Square Enix responded to this complaint actually. They told us to pay attention to when the Knights of the Round cast that spear attack in Thordan Ex... It inflicts Infirmary... The bastards knew all along...

I really hate that I didn't even remember that line. I didn't realize it was a reference to Haurchefant until I saw someone mention it after I had already finished the story, so that scene went right over my head. And I only started playing this a few months ago, so it's not like it's been a long time. I really liked Haurchefant, and his death hit me hard. I even have a portrait of him in my room at my FC house, and I use the Pay Respects emote every time I stop by, with Dragonsong usually playing. So I really can't believe I missed it. I'm sorry, Haurchefant. Your last words were lost on this fool of a WoL...

I guess this is the one time my horrible memory was a good thing. Saw that option, couldn't remember where it's from but found it familiar, started crying for no reason and felt like "This.. These are the words." aaaand I did not regret it. Only remembered when I did DRK's Lvl80 quest.

In another Timeline... Haurchefaunt is there right next to my character as we vanquish nidhog... and after he becomes one of the scions....... In another Timeline...

I'm considering it, but I'm still trying to get through the MSQ myself, and it's quite a lot longer than base Shadowbringers so I may or may not be able to reliably get others' reactions since I'd have to sift through quite a lot of streams' VODs lol... we'll see though!
