Edit: genuinely go to the first introduction of Master Matoya and then compare it to how Yshtola interacts with Matoya in the ShB patches
I played final fantasy I only recently and got chills when I found Matoya, I was like "wait a god damn second, the music, MATOYA? I never even played the original Final Fantasy, and this was still a very heartwarming and weirdly nostalgic moment. I love how this game brings back so many wonderful classic details from the series like this. I love the detail in that line too "It's been far too long, Master Matoya." Followed immediately by a smile from Matoya. Such a subtle little fourth wall break.

When Y'shtola mentioned Matoya I was like "too damn cool!" When I got into her cave, and that music came up, just took me back to my childhood when I was playing FFI for the first time in 1990. The dancing brooms, how one of em spoke backwards like in the first game, I was too happy- and her voice was so well done, and she looked awesome. The Dravarian Hinterlands also reminded me of Bahamut Lagoon ^_^.

Legend 😍
They pretty much nailed everything I wanted when I heard Matoya's Cave was a location in Heavensward. Funny enough, the frog who tells you about the place even mentions it once had a lot of bones lying around until the Brooms cleaned them. (A reference to the NES version of the cave that did in fact, have bones all around).
"To win a war, you must be willing to do whatever it takes. To fight, to kill, and if necessary, to die. The path you've chosen is paved with the dead. Walk it with eyes open, or not at all." What a quote, jesus fuck
Matoya reminds me so much of my grandmother. They have such a similar personality. Sometimes I go visit Matoya *just* to chill and it reminds me of the time I spent with my grandma. My grandma passed away in June, and I haven't been the same since. Matoya's song, specifically the bagpipes (I think they're bagpipes) always makes me cry. We're both half Irish and always went to St. Patrick's Day parades in the city whenever we got the chance. So it reminds me of that. Matoya's song brings me a sense of peace, and reminds me that my grandma isn't sick anymore. She can finally rest. Whoever composed it: I hope you know how beautiful it is. Edit: Sorry that I keep adding to this. I come back to listen to the song whenever I miss her and need something to trigger crying and that's been happening a lot lately. And sorry if none of the shit makes sense, I was bawling the first time I wrote this. Edit 2: It was 6 months yesterday, the 12th. I had this on loop all throughout the day. And yes, I cried. Edit 3 I guess?: It's been over a year now. I realize now that the original comment was probably trauma dumping. I'm sorry for any harm I caused. I just wanted to update for the small chance anyone cares about the progress. I don't really listen to this often anymore. Idk why. It still brings me a sense of peace but I don't cry every time the bagpipes come on. I had a dream with her a few months ago. She looked young. She gave me a hug and told me everything was going to be okay. And she was right. Life is still shit but I'm not alone this time. Like I was last year when she finally went to go rest. I think I'm finally ready for the world now. Idk maybe I'll update in a few years, but for now I just want to say that you all are amazing and loved.

They could have left off at the end harps. Could have just ended right there... The cello could've been the end of it. It would've looped perfectly. And yet... and yet... the bagpipes... Square, Nobuo, you have touched a poor soul's heart. Just... thank you... This song is a requiem of the days past. A sign to let those days go and look to the future songs that have yet to play. I will see the future with a glad heart, no matter what direction that takes.
This is by far one of my favorite FF theme
As someone who played the first game, it was pretty exciting being like: Oh hey I actually remember this first hand! Instead of knowing references like the crystal tower just from watching a video about the other games.
Waouh.. This remix is fantastic.
Gives me goosebumps to hear this after so long... epic.
Nostalgia 🥺😔😭💔
"she might be an ungrateful stray, but she is my ungrateful stray!"
Been A While Matoya!
My heart skipped a beat, when i got in the cave and heard the music
Props to my FC for having this on the Orchestrion. I believe it happened when the leaders helped me and another member finish Coils and one of them crafted Answers with the loot and put it in the playlist. They swapped out a lot of the hard hitting songs like Through the Maelstrom, Metal Brute Justice, and Exponential Entropy with things like Answers, The Warrens, and Mushroomery. And while I like those faster songs, I think the new list gives the house a more homely vibe.
A really great rendition.
this is probably my favorite moment in FF14 through ARR, HSW, and SB!
