Final Fantasy is a series built on callbacks and name dropping (eg. Cid, Biggs & Wedges) It’s about time XIV began contributing to the roster of established names. I hope, in a future FF game, we can see a money grubbing merchant named Rowena or a silly NPC named Hildebrand.

I know that since I'm not a fan of the Eureka content, I'm more than likley never finishing it, and thus, will not see any relic from there past the Anemos stages I already have. So being able to see the rest of their story would be cool, because that's a chunk of content and lore I'll personally never see because it's gated past gameplay content I just couldn't stomach.

Really like how this video addresses how stronger weaponry works in general; most every "basic" or "mundane" material is back in ARR and Heavensward, in the lowest of ilvls

Love these lore videos. And this was a particularly interesting one. I can already picture a Darknight's sword turned relic, that-- after having become able to understand intentions, refuses to let anyone with a malevolent heart wield it. As a side note, does anyone know if our beloved scribe has enough material to make a "What it means to be a Reaper" video? I am virtually waiting on pins and needles for it. But that's all for me. It really was the Relic Weapons that got me into lore vids. Back in the day I was trying to make a ARR weapon before Stormblood and when looking them up I found Ethys Asher's vids about them. His look at real world and FF history of them, then I watched one of his lore vids and well here we are.

Would love to see a video on the legendary weapons that have been introduced over the years. About their ability in ffxiv and history in the final fantasy series. And possible future plots 😉

This was a very informative video. Until now, I just thought that relic weapons were just weapons made with superior techniques and materials. I had no idea about the aetheric side of it. Really cool stuff, I'm a fan of relic weapon lore now. Another reason to actually do the relic weapon quest in Bozja!

The Anima Weapon minion is probably my most used one. Where as the great sword i made to get it, is ... less so ...., other 2 handers i like more, and even then, it's less the weapon i like in most cases, especially since I can't be bothered to go after them while they are 'current', but the process of getting it. but if i had to pick a favorite. Excalibur. if for no other reason then the name.

As a relatively new player (maybe 800 hours in but I kinda swapped characters until I decided on one) slowly chipping at ARR relics, I sure do hope they're special - filling those to es to go from Atma to Zenith is enough to put somebody on suicide watch, gotta do it one time per day to preserve sanity.

Hey there, Scribe. Great video as always. While I only ever managed to do the grind for a few Anima weapons, some part of me was always fascinated with how relic weapons were considered that way. And-as your video and the research mentions-the answer is aether conductivity. I don't know if you've managed to read my comments from before with regard to head-canon and things related to my character's role-play and such, but I'd like to pose a question to you: Given that what potentially turns a weapon into a relic weapon is aether conductivity, would a war-bow crafted in a specialized way and strung with a dragon heartstring be considered a relic weapon? If nothing else, for the simple reason that anything related to a dragon is steeped in aetheric power? Thanks in advance, Scribe

In a way, anything that channels/radiates enough aetheric power could be classified as a Relic. As such, a bow with dragon parts isn't entirely out of the question. Look at it this way, Estinien's lance could be considered a Relic in its own right, and it gained much of its power after being steeped in Nidhogg's aether.

@@SynodicScribe A very good point with regard to Estinien's Nidhogg lance. Admittedly, it's one of the things I thought of when it comes to Ishgardian/Dravanian-related potential Relic weapons. On that same note, another question comes to mind: Given that Nidhogg is of the First Brood-and is thus steeped in aether a step just below his father Midgardsormr-would the potency of his own draconic aether be several steps above a dragon who is, say... a generation or so below him? Or would there be no variance at all between generations? For instance, would Hraesvelgr's aether be vastly more intense in comparison to a dragon like his daughter Vidofnir?

@@PapaDeusVult Honestly it's hard to say. We know remarkably little about the true power of dragons and why recent generations seem so much weaker than the First Brood. It's possible that it's just a matter of age, or there are other factors we don't know for sure. But one things is for sure, dragons like Vidofnir are visibly weaker than their sire.

We're already half there with Maggie. Just put a few more parts on her that are particularly conductive, and she might learn to speak.

They are glam, so they are the most important weapons!

It would have been nice if you made it a point to differentiate between the types of weapons that fall under the improper blanket of "relics."

Absolutely baffled at learning that common dirt isn't a good aetheric conductor. I need to re-examine my crafting process considering this information.

How would you say the aetheric conductivity of extant material like meteorites are so much more potent than most of the materials on the planet? Was it because it was exposed to the aether of the stars?

While not confirmed, it could be possible that "space rocks" are more conductive because of the amount of celestial aether they're exposed to before falling down to a world's surface.

It's also possible that the way meteorites fall through atmosphere and are worn away has something to do with it. Perhaps they react with celestial aether currents around a planet as well, causing non-aetherically-conductive material to be stripped away in the same manner.

Also to point out, the ore in meteorites are good forging material for crafting and the like. Even if they weren’t as potent in aetheric conductivity, they’d be totally serviceable in weaponry.

So is it the same for DoH and DoL tools as well?

To my understanding, pretty much. The current Splendorous Tools adapt to your hand and your methods. Presumably this means they “understand” your intent and can mold themselves to better achieve your intended goals.

Not really. Primal Summoning is what happens when a strong belief in something is mixed with tons of aether. The passive understanding of a relic is more reactionary, as it starts to learn from its wielder.

Bruh the point of the relic is to be something to grind towards. This expansion handing it out for 1500 tomes is lame. I loved logging into Bozja and chipping away at it. Now it’s just as boring as possible.
