  • @SubduedRadical

I like how, of the 5th Age powers, the Scholars (and Nym itself) ended up being the only ones NOT morally/ethically corrupted, that DIDN'T contribute to the War of the Magi/Calamity of Water, and, ironically despite Mhach intending otherwise, were the only one of the nations/people that survived to the modern day. The one thing that sucks is that due to so much of this happening in the SCH questline, we don't see the revival of Scholars in the world/lore/main story - even though we DID get mention of Summoners rising again in the main story in that brief exchange where Fordola explains that Ul'dah has taken people that survived encouters with Ifrit and they've learned how to be SMNs so they can hide behind rocks but use their Egis to support the duo as they fight Primals. It's interesting to see that they made distinct mention of that...so maybe they'll do something with the rising of Nym as an ally/town/vassal/something to Limsa at some point...

As a nerdy marine biologist IRL I thought "well I have to be a scholar"! Even naming my character "Marine Biologist". Little did I know...until watching this... that scholars are marines, and naval experts! Since aether is also bound to the element of water (which literally surrounded their home), they probably were fascinated by studying all the marine life that also channeled these energies. Thats what I choose to think, and I just love this coincidence:)

It never ceases to amuse me that the actions of Mhach led to the preservation of their Nymian rivals rather than their utter destruction. Part of me hopes they incorporate the Nymians a bit into the MSQ so that we get to see how the re-emergence of a 1500+ year old polity shakes the status quo on Vylbrand at the least. Obviously they'll never be the superpower they once were, but that is an unprecedented shift in local culture.

I remember a long time ago, before I thought of playing FF14, I thought Scholar was the silliest rendition in the FF series. Years later when I had the open-mindedness to give it a try, I read some basic info on them. Afterwards, I knew this was the job for me. Tactical, thoughtful, military geniuses and civil servants. They’re one of the most honorable jobs. Also, they’re kick ass fun to play (and I’ve only played their “weaker” reworked version). Thanks for the vid! Looking forward to more!

SCH main here as well, and no matter what jabs people make about its kit I will never forsake the job. Battle Librarian to the end! lol It's also interesting that people poo-poo SCH as much as they do as a healer considering that in community always screaming for Healers to be green dps, SCH currently has the best dps kit of the lot. Feels appropriate to the lore though, them having been a military component rather than pure healer.

It seems fair that you now study and inform us about the form of magicks, one that requires “balance” between going towards the enemy and keeping your distance from danger to maximise your damage output and remain support for other party members. A form of magicks that’s known and a all rounder, a partitioner of all yet master of none! That’s right I’m talking about Blue Mage! … But that’s not a real job so I guess Red Mage will have to do

Out of all your job lore videos I've seen thus far, this one was my favorite. And that is saying something as I have really enjoyed many of them. These introductions would be well placed as the entry descriptions on the official job actions site to really entice players to take up these jobs. This one in particular reminds me of the times I have assisted in smooth clears, and also brought back my party from the brink of defeat. Shaming myself for letting the tide of the situation shift that direction in the first place. An experienced SCH is a boon to any party, and ensures victory. Though it upsets me that such intelligent mages fell victim to a Trojan horse, their perseverance through the war, disease, AND the calamity more than makes up for it. It is a testament to their resolve.

Honestly my favorite class in the game. I'm horrible at it. I'm a good tactician in most games however my tactics are often slow compared to others, making me an easy target as by the time my military is ready, yours is bigger meaning my defenses are either equal or weaker. I'm the same way as a scholar, a slow reactor to the situation at hand. But I don't care. I enjoy it nonetheless. Makes me really wish there was a Nymian Marine class where we could learn a more possibly DPS oriented warrior or something.
