Ойындар
Wow, a LOT of you wanted to hear about Machinist, so I made sure that was the next job. So far it's one of two new jobs unique to the Seventh Astral Era so we get to learn about its fundamentals and origin! Only time will tell what crazy stories there will be about the Machinists of the future.

Somewhere in an alternate universe, you start in Limsa as a marksman and become a MCH by level 30.

The Musketeer feels like a cut class/job that was shot into HW. I really like double barreled flintlock pistols that some carry around and i would love NOTHING more than having that

Maybe we’ll get musketeer or an equivalent in the form of Corsair in Dawntrail.
The fact that MCH is a new job and it have no knowlage inside it means that all that jumping and flips while shooting is something that our WoL decided to do for style points.

The cooler things look the more damage they do. Or did you not know that? 😂😂
Certainly one of the coolest things about playing MCH is the prospect of being a founding member of a class. Years from now, someone will be handing our job crystal to someone, telling them stories about the great machinists who developed the techniques held within. That’s rather unique among FF XIV classes.
I own a musket for home defence, because that’s what the founding fathers intended; Four Knights of the Round break into my house.”What the Zodiark!” As I grab my powdered Whig and Garlond rifle; blow an aether crystal-sized hole through the first man. He’s dead on the spot, draw my pistol on the second knight, misses him entirely because it’s smoothbore and nails the summoner’s Carbuncle. I have to resort to the flamethrower mounted on my back, loaded with fire crystals. “Tally-ho lads!” The fire vaporizes two “men” In the blast; the sound and extra flames set of guard alarms; fix bayonet and charge the last terrified abomination, he disintegrates waiting on the guards to arrive because Primals are impossible to stitch up. Ahhh just as the founding fathers intended.
Ah, Machinist, one of my favorite jobs. :-) Near as I can tell, MCH is an amalgamation of three different elements that were supposed to have been introduced into 1.x; The original Musketeer and Arcanist classes from Limsa Lominsa, and the Ishgard city-state. 1.x Arcanist was supposed to wield a distaff, it was a mechanical staff that would transform into different constructs or summon traps during the player's rotation. (There is artwork of 1.x Urianger with a staff on his back, that's the old Arcanist main arm.) While the old Musketeer class was like our current MCH, just without the summoning of any construct like the Rook or Automaton Queen. As for Ishgard? Well, the city-state was supposed to have been introduced in 1.x, and then later in 2.x, but there wasn't enough time to make it happen. That changed upon the release of Heavensward when the MCH guild was put into Ishgard, finally implementing three seemingly abandoned features from 1.x into FFXIV. Also, the model used for the old distaff was repurposed into the "muskets" (as they are referred to in-game) used by the Gnath/Vath. Your quest companion for the Vath tribesmen storyline wields this weapon in a few cutscenes. The Machnist job as it is now makes me wonder what other past elements and classes from 1.x can be adapted into the game going forward into the next decade.

It also means that those crazy flips the WoL does when shooting don’t come from the crystal. The WoL is canonically Just That Extra.
I know that everyone's WoL is personalized to suit what they think their personality is, but between machinist, scholar, and the various crafting classes the WoL could be seen as an unprecedented genius.

I understand my machinist's background now more. I still always get surprised by technology in FFXIV in general. All is medieval and here we are shooting around with a gun and calling a cyborg to fight by our side. ;) Good job.

I’ve got to admit I don’t particularly like the idea of magitek in an otherwise medival world. To me the Garleans should curbstomp the rest of the world due to their technological advantage. But it’s a minor quibble and I still enjoy the game.

@@mikoto7693 Their technology puts them a step up, but the ability to manipulate aether makes the average eorzean soldier far stronger than a garlean, in man to man combat. Aether must not be underestimated, almost every job in ffxiv uses it in their own unique way, making them crazy strong.
Amazing, now we can RP a Machinist and understand the reasoning, and even a little bit of how the weapon itself works. I will no longer be asked something only to respond with "Uh..." or "It's too complex to explain." x'D Thanks!

Machinist is flat out the most fun class. My friend taught me the rotation for it and holy crap it's so fun. I love it. It's super fun and I highly recommend it.
I always thought the prospectometer was figurative. Another word for intuition.
Wow, I just realized the Rook Autoturret looks a lot like an Imperial juggernaut. Those huge flying tubes garlemald used in the 1.0 trailers
A real blast as always, professor
I wish we had the option to customize the outer shell of the Atherotransformer
I started playing FFXIV a few months after Stormblood. MCH back then was a bit of a harder beast to grasp, but it caught my attention with the massive amount of burst damage it had. I mained the class immediately once I got into Heavensward and haven't regretted it since. I still love and enjoy MCH and can't wait to see what is in store for the jobs future.
great as always! excited to learn more about the tanks!
Thank you for this! Makes me adore the class even more!
Just started three weeks ago, I want to be a machinist so bad, I’m a bard until I get to the heavensward content
Thank you! Finally some answers
It’s cool how the Machinist discipline draws from all over. Ishgard, Limsa Lominsa, and even Garlemald.
Fascinating. I’d never played Mch but it’s still good to learn the lore.

I am surprised Machinist in FF14 does not have the Pandora ability but I guess it's okay
It amuses me that I seem to be the only person I have heard who says the name as a variation of Machina (from FFX) instead of Machine. Probably because FFX is my favorite and I heard it way too much in all my replays. For those who never play X, I read it as Mah - keen -est instead of Mah - sheen -est.
machinist in reallife and machinist in ffxiv, what a life
