I hadn't cried for six, maybe seven years until I played this game. It gave me access to emotions that I hadn't had for a very long time, possibly ever. That sounds like such a hokey thing to say, but it really isn't. It's rare that a piece of media can have that effect on me or, well, anyone. FFXIV is truly a masterpiece and anyone looking to tell a deep, meaningful story should look here for tips.

No matter how much he complains and acts tsundere, he really cares for them all. I'd even go as far as saying in the timeline they win within, it's highly unlikely either elidibus nor emet would have beared fangs at Hydaelyn, probably more like a very heated debate followed by a lot of facepalming and arguing and moaning.

So fun little story about this moment. By this point, my character had one max-level combat job, but EVERY crafting and gathering job maxed out. When I arrived in Sharlayan, I told immigration I was a crafter. When Meteon asked me what I liked to do, I told her I liked to craft, rather than fighting. But when Zenos, here, asked if I seek out challenges for their own sake? Well, that I cannot deny. I liked how It tied a nice little bow on my character's arc through the story.

There is an alternate universe where Metzen or whoever the primary lead writer is wasn't either screwed by upper management and/or not a shit writer themselves that made a decent story throughout WoW. Where in this alternate world, FF14 was a legitimate challenger in terms of MMORPG stories. Not here. Here, FF14 is the undisputed king of MMORPG storytelling. I would say Heavensward as a whole is damn near peak traditional RPG storytelling as in dragons and castles. Stormblood 4.3 with Yotsuyu's story was the dark horse that no one anticipated hitting as hard as it did. Then the entirety of Shadowbringers was the heavy hitter, a masterclass story that damn near almost works as a standalone story. And finally we got Endwalker to finish things off, the perfect wrap up to a 10 year story. The only people capable of surpassing the Hydaelyn-Zodiark story are the people who made the Hydaelyn-Zodiark story because everyone at this point has to play catch up.

I have no doubt that a good amount of people in Mor Dhona are randoms joining in on the fun. We love doing things like that, or even the Behemoth Stack Tower, or just jumping around in the Magitek Armor mounts. Fun fact: The part in Ultima Thule where you have to walk is actually an instanced area so that other players don't ruin the moment, intentionally or not. The Endsinger fight is currently the only end of base expansion final trial to get an Item Level Sync which was introduced in a recent patch. It now syncs at IL 570. The strength of our gear got so powerful that the Endsinger's health was around 0.1% when she did the phase transition causing many newcomers to miss out on the second phase entirely. Congratulations on finishing Endwalker 6.0!! If you haven't done so, I highly recommend doing all 5 of the EW Role Quests. They have some good stories to tell and one heck of a questline for doing them all.

Endwalker was the first expansion that I got to play with my significant other, in person, having met in an FC in game. The story of the month leading up to EW for me is one that I still consider hard to tell. When it was supposed to release, the week of, my Grandmother caught Covid-19, unvaccinated. She had little chance of recovering. She passed a few days after I'd heard she was in the hospital. I couldn't make it to see her, as she was atleast 3 states away, and I had no means to get there in a timely manner.. I never got to say goodbye. Shortly after, Endwalker was released. I fought queue times and played through the main story with my SO, and upon reaching Ultima Thule, I found myself reminded of the pain I felt hearing my mother over the phone say that my Nana had passed. I felt my characters every step during the Final Walk, and couldn't help but hear my friends words, as well as those of my characters friends... Endwalker may not have been the reason I finally came to terms with not being able to say goodbye to my Nana, but it helped me realize that despite her passing, I am no less without her. It fills me with immense joy to see so many people experience this game that I consider to be the reason I'm still here today.

I mean it when I say it really has had a profound impact on me. A lot of the fantasy series, be it literary, a film, a tv series, or a video game franchise, have very rarely been able to grow with each subsequent installment. FFXIV meanwhile only ever got better. It rewards us, the players, for investing in the world, caring about the story, the characters, the foreshadowing. Never have I felt so cared for as a player as I have experiencing the majesty that is the FFXIV MSQ. It's bittersweet that it's over, but knowing I get to experience what comes next alongside everybody is going to be an entirely new chapter of this adventure that I am so, so excited for.

I love how Zenos's final words mirror Venat's from earlier in the game - "Has your journey been good? Has it been worthwhile?" and "Was this life a gift - or a burden? Did you find...fulfillment?" Really excellent parallels. Fitting for the character who proved to be your foil, in the end.

The intro to this is so well done, the editing is fantastic as always! As someone who also played through the entire story with friends and made some new, really close friends through it, I find it really adds something special when Venat asks if your journey has been worthwhile. Even if I arrived late into your playthrough (I started watching when you were in Thavnair) I'm really glad I stumbled across your channel back in June - I was instantly drawn to how invested you are in the story and the care you take in your playthrough, editing and community. I'm sure we gave Zenos the proper send off he wanted. He's a simple man of simple pleasures. He wanted a grand final battle to end his life. Hell he literally headbutted his way into ultima thule, a black patch of dynamis nothingness SOLELY WILLING HIS WAY TO GET TO US. He wanted to die in an epic battle against someone that tested him. A battle at the edge of the known universe with the savior of the planet one on one is definitely what he'd have wanted. (And all he had to do was learn consent! He actually ASKED for the dual instead of trying to force it on us for once! I know I couldn't say no.) Off that I just...everything emotional in this game. Hades acknowledging us at last as his friend even if we aren't "complete", and even trying to cheer us up at the end with promises of adventure, and even where we could seek it. Hythlodaeus being well...himself. And Zenos being the one damn person who never once doubted we could win once he believed in us. Seriously he had more belief in us than even Venat did who had a contingency plan. It was never a question in Zenos' mind we would win. Hell his way of goading us forward is to basically go, in actual confusion, "Come on you aren't a little bitch are you? It should be dead already!" Mind you the writing team themselves did great. Most of this wasn't planned until around Stormblood. They used retroactive context to recontextualize things to it (A version of retconning. Granted they did it fabulously. THIS IS HOW YOU DO RETCONS, STORY WRITERS!!!) AN out of game lore bit that was in short stories, by the way, to explain our dynamic. The charging headlong into a volcano bit. Our excuse as Azem was for the grapes on the island, but we basically averted krakatoa by having Hythlo bypass normal regulations to "lend us" the ifrit concept. Which we poured all the volcanos energy into to beat it up. I'm sure that Hades had a miserable time with paperwork after that one. We and hythlo had one braincell among us we tossed over Hades' head like a volleyball.

Everything caps so brilliantly. Emet and Hytrh. Zenos learning how to PROPERLY get what he wants. And the moment when you break through the Endsinger's ultimate attack, only for the music to change from the Endsinger's boss music to YOUR boss music. Capping it all off with probably the single most satisfying one on one duel in the entire game with Zenos. Simply perfection.

I'm not going to lie, I absolutely lost it when G'raha prepares himself to die, then looks back and gives one last smile. The music starts out as discordant instrumentals when you arrive in Ultima Thule, and gains additional form with each sacrifice, evolving. Then, as G'raha sacrifices himself, "Close In The Distance" fires up, a soulful ballad for the cat-boy who must always be protected, and all I can think is, "Fuck you, Square-Enix." That said, "Thank you, Square-Enix." Absolutely love that others were as emotionally invested in this story as I, likewise, became.

I just happened upon this video this morning while getting ready for work. I have only made it 40 minutes so far but OMG the tears have returned! I started playing this game in late 2015, at a time I was at a major personal crossroad in my life. It was my first MMO, and it took a while to get my MMO legs underneath me, but it was well worth it to experience ARR, and at the time, Heavensward. Since then, I went through many changes in my life, both good and bad, but the one constant was this game and my adventures with the Scions. You opened the video up with what I consider my most profound moment ever playing a game. "Has your journey been good? Has it been worthwhile?" I don't know if you answer this in this video, but for me, that question was directed to the player as much as, if not more so than the Warrior of Light themselves. As a longtime sufferer of depression and dysphoria in my own skin, when I realized my answer to that question was a resounding yes, I broke down and cried. These are some of the reasons why this story is my favorite in all of fiction. The experiences and lessons here I have yet to experience an equal to, and I know many others hold these moments in high regard too. Perhaps that is why we are eager (perhaps too eager) to share these experiences. They are a deep and intimate look into ourselves and our hopes and dreams. Thank you, and I can't wait to relive the rest of this journey through you!

Great video! What a perfect way to reflect on the story up to that point! People who haven't played this game have no idea what they are missing. The storytelling is just fantastic. And watching this video, it all comes back. Whenever I watch someone go through this, it's the same emotional journey. The mixed emotions when players walk up to the first black spirit and realize that it's going to be a gauntlet of memories of loved companions - everybody is aware that that walk is going to wreak havoc on their hearts. Then we summon Emet-Selch, who enters with a little funny line, and we gladly greet him with a relieved laugh at this little joke through our tears. And I'm sure the writers knew perfectly well that it would be like that. Masterfully done! Then the bed of flowers that nobody expected, even though it was so obvious in hindsight. Then we summon back our comrades. None of us believed that they would be gone for good, yet their appearance leads to more tears once again. Then "Come with us, Meteon!". Has anybody ever selected the other option? And last not least, the waiting community after the cutscene, welcoming the player into the circle of those who had gone through the same emotions. The tiny sounds of the teleportation device clicking through the silence as we lay half dead at the end of the world with Zenos, ensuring us that our friends are going to take us home. Venat's knowing little smile as we walk past her during the end credits... I never get tired of this.
