FFP3 vs N95 - SAVEWO 3DMASK Extreme Pro vs. 3M Aura 9205+

The SAVEWO 3DMASK Extreme Pro is a tri-fold mask like the 3M Aura N95 but has the highest European FFP certification, FFP3.
N95 filters have to pass a minimum 95% particle filtration efficiency requirement. FFP3s have a minimum 99% filtration requirement. You'd expect that FFP3 has to be the better mask. But it's not that simple, in part because the 3M Aura N95s masks filter way better than they are required to for their N95 certification, but also because once you have really good filtration media the most important thing in a mask becomes a leak-free fit. It doesn't matter if your filter stops 99% of particles if they are all going around the mask. So, that means I want to know which of these masks fits better on me, because great fit is required for great protection.
Which will win? FFP3 or N95? I wanted to find out.
Keep in mind that fit is very individual, so YMMV and my results may not be the same, or even in the same ball park, as yours. I have a medium sized face, but a high nose bridge, so masks that leak on me may fit well on other people.
Thanks to u/grw110 for the masks to test.

Aaron Collins explanation of how glasses fogging can be a sign of leaks, but also may not be:

I'm using a PortaCount fit testing machine that gives scores in "Fit Factor".
Fit factor is the the concentration of particles outside the mask divided by the number inside the mask. So if there were 100 particles outside and 10 inside, 100 divided by 10 is 10, so the air inside the mask is 10 times cleaner and the fit factor is 10. If there are 100 particles outside and only 1 inside, the mask would be a 100x cleaner inside, for a fit factor of 100.
Nerdy details: I'm using a full .02 to 1 micron CNC particle count test - the test used for N99 and N100 fit testing. N95s can and do pass full CNC fit tests, but some have too much filter penetration to pass with less than 1% total inward leakage (filter penetration + filter bypass).
TSI has a testing mode to make it easier for some N95s to pass a fit test by counting only particles that are more likely to be filter bypass:

Thank you very much for making these informative videos! One thing I'd be really interested in is a comparison between 3M Aura FFP2 and FFP3 (I think that's N95 and N99 in US certifications). I've switched to the Aura FFP3s since I'm the only one masking at work, but they're much more expensive and it would be nice to know how big of a difference there actually is.

I think it will be interesting if you test them on some people with lower nose bridge than you.

It is absolutely the case that my results cannot be extrapolated to everyone. Fit is very individual. Next time I fit test friends or family, I may include one of these FFP3 in the testing.

Nice.Have you done cross straps or both straps above?I've seen nurses done that and i wonder if it affects the fit.

I'm planning on testing different strap configurations for the Aura - both on the head, both behind the neck, head strap only, and neck strap only. I fit tested a friend who likes both Aura straps behind her neck, and the fit factor was 1/4th of wearing both straps normally (59 instead of 227). I. also fit tested a 3M Aura with the top strap broken and got a single digit fit factor - nearly surgical mask bad. I also want to test different strap tensions. It is possible that crossing the straps with an Aura primarily increases tension. I'm not sure if I'll do more tests of the Savewo FFP3 primarily because the nose seal is good but still a bit on the edge for my high nose bridge. I may do a nose wire swap with a 3M Aura to see if that makes a difference.

Dang, my moms got a nose shape similar to yours but the aura is just a bit too big! Well actually it’s a lot too big. I usually do better w softer wires because of my lower nose bridge (the aura just “tents” on the fleshy part of my nose, and moves too much because there’s not enough bone to hold on to). If you know of a much smaller aura mask do show it!

Unfortunately, for reasons that are unfathomable to me, 3M does not make a small sized or a mask. They do however make a small sized V-Flex mask which many people use because the aura does not come in a smaller size. The small-sized V-Flex masks aren't as common or easy to find as the regular auras, but they do have a very good nose wire.
