Peronsally I used ffmpeg to convert raw avi files i made with OBS as my computer is slow and I cannot usually convert on the fly while playing more demanding games yet with time i discovered that it offers so much more and done some basic video editing with it. Just discovered your channel and it rocks, yet i believe i cannot really go without OBS as my input overlay is for OBS and i do not know any good alternative that works as a standalone program. Yet it is super fun to know how to do all that stuff with ffmpeg. No questions if it can be done as ffmpeg can do a lot.

x.265 and x.264, are a couple of the more common video codecs.

Great video! Helped me setup my recording setup. Quick question: how do you record output sound? E.g. game sound or a video played on PC.

how about recording desktop audio with ffmpeg + alsa? i.e, record a song playing from your desktop

How do you get that live webcam while screen recording? Is it ffplay?

I use mpv to open my webcam as a window (with a few extra settings).

I am using an unofficial aarch64 port of Arch GNU/Linux. I knew FFMPEG since 5th grade and it was great. I also used FFMPEG to interpret raw data as video data. However it is a little bit confusing, X11GRAB is not found, how to fix that? Its also not found when I run pacman -S x11grab. Please help

x11grab only works if you system is using x11, you check it using "echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE" if it says "x11" then it should work, if it says "wayland" then you should replace "x11grab" with "wlgrab" or if your system is using something else you can search for it on internet

btw i love your videos, but can you make some videos about openage?

Now if you know how to add to the audio input (microphone) some compressor, limiter, equalizer filters using ffmpeg, I will quit OBS altogether, 😀

FFmpeg does have compressor, limiter, and equalizer filters. ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html

Enjoyed the video. However, try not saying the word "actually" so much. I can't count how many times you said it. Try not using that word at all. It is superfluous just like when EVERYONE is saying "literally" nowadays. It's a bad habit and annoying. Thanks.
