Ffestiniog Railway 'Steam 150' Climax Saturday 12th October 2013

A few clips taken at the climax to the FR's 'Steam 150' celebrations on Saturday 12th October 2013. The weather was pretty dire for photography, but it was a fantastic day to watch the trains. Filmed and produced by Tom Waldren

I was so sorry to miss that event due to eye operations but watching this video was certainly the next best thing. Wonderful scenes, pictorial compositions and technical quality. Many thanks and well done, Tom.

Thanks Pete; it's good news for me; Tom does all the hard work and I get to watch the trains instead of peering into a camera! Cheers, Dave

HI Steve it's called 'The Boat' and is a replica of a gravity trolley that existed in the 19th century. Pretty bizarre, eh? Thanks for your comment. Dave

Excellent video. Do they have many derailments with the slate trains? They certainly like to zoom about with them. Here's to the next one hundred and fifty.

A good video but why can't some of these camera 'operators' follow the engine through instead of waiting for all the rolling stock go by, or are their camera's in a 'fixed' mode? I don't have any problem's and find it adds more interest in viewing the result after.CAREY CHESHIRE

That train of gravity/brake controlled wagons makes me wonder. I know it was done all the time in the old days, but I wonder how on earth Health and Safety would ever permit it today!

It's because it's still the original Ffestiniog railway company so they have the same safety regulations as when it opened

Hi; not a breakaway. The whole line is built on a slight gradient. This is a gravity train. From 1836 until the 1930's, these trains were the norm. In the days before steam was introduced horses hauled the empty wagons back up to the quarries. Amazing eh?
