Oh, misty eye of the mountain below Keep careful watch of my brothers' souls And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke Keep watching over Durin's sons If this is to end in fire Then we should all burn together Watch the flames climb high into the night Calling out father Oh, stand by and we will watch the flames Burn auburn on the mountainside And if we should die tonight Then we should all die together Raise a glass of wine for the last time Calling out father Oh, prepare as we will watch the flames Burn auburn on the mountainside Desolation comes upon the sky Now I see fire inside the mountain I see fire burning the trees I see fire hollowing souls I see fire, blood in the breeze And I hope that you remember me Oh, should my people fall then Surely I'll do the same Confined in mountain halls We got too close to the flame Calling out father Oh, hold fast and we will watch the flames Burn auburn on the mountainside Desolation comes upon the sky Now I see fire inside the mountain I see fire burning the trees I see fire hollowing souls I see fire, blood in the breeze And I hope that you remember me And if the night is burning I will cover my eyes For if the dark returns then my brothers will die And as the sky is falling down It crashed into this lonely town And with that shadow upon the ground I hear my people screaming out Now I see fire inside the mountains I see fire burning the trees I see fire hollowing souls I see fire, blood in the breeze I see fire Oh, you know I saw a city burning up I see fire Feel the heat upon my skin Now, I see fire Fire I see fire Burn auburn on the mountainside

    The way they rolled the dynamics of the song itself into the story is so fucking impressive. “Desolation comes along the sky…” In addition to being a killer lyric delivered flawlessly, the band climbs the register and lets it sit up in the sky for a second…and then brings it crashing right back down to earth.

    I really feel like the studio-enforced rush on the Hobbit trilogy deprived us of many things, not the least of which is a finer version of its potential-filled music. Because Dwarves, y'know... they're a buncha rough-toughs-with-a-soul kinda folk. And in honour of that, this is how "I See Fire" should've sounded.

    This is what true talent looks like. I am not a fan of Ed Sheeran, to be honest I find most of his songs to be very cheesy but each to their own ( I mean no disrespect by saying this ). But it doesn't compare to this, taking a song like that and turning into something like this, the amount of work, practice and pure talent is just fascinating. This band just keeps on giving and I wish I had discovered them sooner. Maybe get to see you live soon

    I wouldn't say better, but it depends on music taste. I would say equally interesting in their own way. I sorta like the ballad version as well. This one as a little more dramatic feel, but the ballad builds that sense of story and mystical sense. Like a Bard might sing in a tavern

  • @shornoMALONEY

    @shornoMALONEY

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@paladonis I understand your "bard in the tavern" comment, but for me there's so much more emotion in this version. Like, with this cover, I'm visualising mountain-folk and their hardships, lives, and honour to one another, it's really emotional. The original doesn't have any of that primal impact, it just sounds like a story. To use a metaphor, the original sounds like the PG-13 version of life by a fiery mountain, the cover sounds like the real thing.

    @@shornoMALONEY I personally like the style of music better in this verison, but ed put so much feeling in the balladish version (if I can call it this way), it almost always makes me a goosebump once I reach the last quarter of the song. @@ChaosZockerLP Totally get your take on it, you've changed my perspective a bit. I think the original is more melancholy and gives me feelings of the sadness of "brothers dying together", like a dirge. The cover conveys more primal feelings of passion and honour, and respect for the fallen. Maybe even the idea of retribution against oppression (from the savagery of nature or from actual enemies). They're both great epic ballads in their own way!

Just had total knee surgery and discovered you guys about a week ago absolutely phenomenal! Not only am I a huge history geek and love medieval things the fact that you’re adding ancient instruments into metal is just brilliant. @@thanos9225 I for one hate the original BECAUSE it sings about a dragon and Durin's sons, but it makes it sound like your run-of-the-mill boyband trying to get laid. It just doesn't fit the theme or the style of Middle-Earth, least of all the dwarves. It gets worse if you realise that the song is basically sung from Thorin's point of view. Ed Sheeran's vocals are pretty much the exact opposite of Thorin's. It's like making a Conan the barbarian movie and casting Peter Dinklage. This version wouldn't fit into the movie either, due to it having modern instruments, BUT it captures the dwarven spirit, something the original clearly didn't do. Not to mention that Middle-Earth aside, I just can't stand Sheeran's voice or singing technique. So, there's one explanation as to why one might hate the original.
